CPConnect Project Funding Opportunity (see attachment)
The Cal Poly Interdisciplinary Projects Program (CPConnect) facilitates donor sponsored interdisciplinary
projects for faculty and students. Our mission is to provide a link between donors and resources that are
available at Cal Poly to ensure that projects are properly funded and have the technical expertise required
for completion. All projects that enable students to explore the integration of technologies to solve
problems will be considered. Proposals can include funding for equipment, materials/supplies, and travel
to conferences, competitions, and project sponsors. The typical range for requested funds should be in
the $500 to $5,000 range. We anticipate funding 5-10 projects each quarter. For more details, see the
attached Request for Project Proposals, or go to the CPConnect website at
https://cpconnect.calpoly.edu/. Please note that proposals must be submitted using the "Proposal
Template”, which can be found on the CPConnect website.
The deadline for proposals for Spring Quarter is April 24. If you have any questions, please contact the
Director of Interdisciplinary Projects, Dr. Lily Laiho ([email protected]).

Student Initiated Entrepreneurial Multi-Disciplinary Senior Project Course (See
Attached)
A section of ENGR 459/460/461 will be offered starting in Fall 2015 for seniors that are interested in multidisciplinary senior projects that combine both engineering build/design/test and entrepreneurial business
model development. The FINAL information session and team formation workshop is being held
onMonday April 20th at 6PM in Building 002-206 (Food Provided). The focus of the meeting will be:
- Provide Course Information and Introduce the Faculty
- Team Formation by Interest Area
- Gathering student initiated product/service ideas (if you have an idea, present it to the group to gather
teammates)
- Have Fun
For those students interested in this course, student teams need to be formed during the early part of
Spring 2015 quarter and projects reviewed by the faculty that are leading this course. Teams will consist
of both engineering and business entrepreneurship students that will work in teams to develop and test
both low resolution, and high resolution prototypes that will be used for business model development and
market validation testing. This course provides the opportunity to use your senior project to help launch
an entrepreneurial career and better understand the journey of entrepreneurial engineers. If you already
have an idea for a project, come prepared to pitch the idea to help in recruiting students for your team. If
you have a skill and are looking for a team, this is a perfect opportunity to hear about other projects that
may be of interest to you. For more information please contact either Professor Tom Katona
([email protected]) or Professor Lynne Slivovsky ([email protected]) and make plans to attend the
upcoming information session.

Engineering Entrepreneurship course added!
Interested in the process of commercializing a technology-based idea? ENGR 451 will prepare students
to identify and evaluate commercial opportunities in the earliest stages of their development. The
emphasis will be on the methods necessary for rapid iteration and market validation of early-stage
prototypes. This quarter will focus on opportunities in the healthcare industry, using microprocessorbased designs in biomedical applications. Prerequisites are negotiable, as this class will benefit from a
variety of disciplines. Senior standing desired. Class meets W/F 2:10-4 in 186-C200. If interested,
please attend the first class.**

April Sexual Awareness Month Events (See Attached)
This year the focus of SAAM is on campus sexual
assault. This makes it even more important that we use our role as faculty
and staff to help end sexual assault at Cal Poly and in our SLO community.
I have highlighted some of our main events. Hope to see you there!
Monday, April 20th 7pm (The Palm Theater): *The Hunting Ground, *from the
makers of The Invisible War comes a startling exposé of rape crimes on
college campuses. Q and A to follow the film.
Wednesday, April 22nd 6pm (Chumash) *Rachel Thomas*, Rachel Thomas is a
survivor and expert on human trafficking and how it affects college
campuses such as Cal Poly.
Thursday, April 23rd All Day! *Denim Day*, we invite everyone to wear denim
on this day. Denim Day stands as a reminder that no matter what a person is
wearing, there is never an excuse nor an invitation for sexual assault.
Saturday, April 25th 11am-2pm (Mission Plaza): *Walk a Mile in Her
Shoes *hosted
by RISE. This is Men's March against sexual assault. This year Cal Poly's
our celebrity walker is President Armstrong!
Thursday, April 30th 10-12pm (UU Plaza) and 5:30-8:30pm (The Jack House):*Take
Back the Night, *is an international event that features protest marches
against sexual violence, memorializes and honors victims, and empowers
survivors and supporters. The final march will be followed by an evening of
poetry, music, food, and a candlelight vigil at the Jack House on 536 Marsh
St. *This is Safer's largest event of the month!*
