Huon Valley apples
The children of Sacred Heart Primary
School, Geeveston, are raising money
for Caritas by selling 2kg bags of apples
for $3 a bag. They are available in the
church foyer. Please leave the money in
the tin. The children (Kinder to Year 6)
bagged the apples which were donated
by Huon Valley orchardists.

World Youth Day 2016 – Krakow

The month of May. Within the cycle
of a year, the Church unfolds the
whole of the mystery of Christ, from
his incarnation and birth until his
ascension, the day of Pentecost, and
the expectation of blessed hope and
of the Lord’s return…
In celebrating this annual cycle of
Christ’s mysteries, the Church
honours with special love Mary, the
Mother of God, who is joined by an
inseparable bond to the saving work
of her Son. In her the Church holds
up and admires the most excellent
effect of the
redemption and joyfully
contemplates, as in a
flawless image, that
which the Church itself
desires and hopes
wholly to be.

The month of May in our Catholic
tradition is the month when we
remember the Blessed Virgin Mary’s
role in God’s plan for the world.
Mary is, in the words of Pope Paul VI,
“the model of the Church as a whole
in its worship of God.”
The Vatican Council taught that
devotion to the Mother of God as it
has always existed in the Church …
is essentially distinct from the worship
of adoration paid equally to the Word
Incarnate (Jesus Christ), the Father,
and the Holy Spirit. Any renewal in
devotion to the Blessed Mother
should always lead us to a deeper
participation in the paschal mystery
of her Son, Jesus the Lord.
During the month of May, then, the
parish newsletter will feature a prayer
centred on Mary that families may
wish to pray together. May our
veneration of the Blessed Mother lead
us to a deeper love of Jesus her Son.

Prayer for the Month of May
The “Regina Caeli” is a twelfth-century antiphon for
Evening Prayer during the Easter Season. Since the
thirteenth century, it has been used as the seasonal
antiphon in honour of the Blessed Virgin after Night
Prayer.

Parish Sacramental Program
Information Evening
The Catholic Parish of Sandy Bay and Taroona
extends an invitation to parents of children who are
above eight years of age, and live in the Sandy BayTaroona area, to an information evening regarding
the sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Eucharist
(Holy Communion).
These sacraments, together with Baptism, form the
Sacraments of Initiation, which “lay the foundations of
every Christian life.” (Catechism of the Catholic
Church 1212)
The session will be held:
Tuesday 5 May, commencing 7.30 pm,
at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, cnr Sandy Bay
Rd and Duke St, Sandy Bay.
Dates and content of the preparation will be
discussed, and you will have the opportunity to
decide if your child is ready to participate in the
program at this time. Preparation for the Sacrament
of Reconciliation will also be made available.
