Job Title: Research Associate
Anticipated Start Date: June 1, 2015
Anticipated End Date: July 31, 2015
Remuneration: $15 per hour for 30 hours per week
Canada Without Poverty is a charitable organization dedicated to the elimination of poverty in Canada through
the enforcement of international human rights. We are looking for a Research Associate who is passionate about
poverty issues with a strong background in research and report writing. The Research Associate will be primarily
responsible for researching, writing and updating our Poverty Progress Profiles. The profiles analyze poverty
strategies and programs across Canada and offer a critical look into best practices as well as current regional
policies. We suggest that all applicants review our Poverty Progress Profiles prior to applying for the position.
Main Responsibilities:




Research poverty initiatives in select provinces using government websites, news releases, academic and
civil society reports, and news articles
Update Poverty Progress Profiles with relevant statistics, new information and recent funding
announcements for specific thematic areas
Write new sections of the profiles to offer a fresh perspective on what is happening within the region as
it relates to poverty and provincial/territorial strategies
Contribute ideas on how to strengthen the profiles and work with a supervisor to adjust layout
Required Skills & Experience








Desire to learn about poverty
Research experience (at the university level)
Strong report writing skills
Ability to synthesize research into brief statements
Ability to work independently
Confidence to ask questions
Strong self-editing capacities
Full-time university student attending full-time in September (graduate or undergraduate)
