The Catskill Conservation Corps invites volunteers to attend a free trail maintenance skills
workshop on Saturday, June 20 from 10am to 3pm. The workshop will be held in the field on the
trails around North and South Lakes in Haines Falls. All of the trails are easy to moderate hikes.
Volunteers will be working with Catskill Conservation Corps (CCC) staff to learn how trails are
maintained by volunteers in the Catskills and to take part in some trail maintenance activities to
improve local trails.
At this free workshop participants will learn the basics of trail safety, what tools are needed for the
job, and you'll be hiking the trail learning how maintainers clear back brush and weeds and remove
fallen trees from the trail. The local New York State Department of Environmental Conservation
Forest Ranger will also be joining the attendees on the trail to talk about the work of the Forest
Rangers in the Catskills.
Volunteers should be sure to wear hiking boots; dress appropriately for the outdoor conditions and
our activities; bring a bag lunch; pack plenty of water and snacks; and bring work gloves.
Pre-registration is required for the event. You can register by calling 518-628-4243, by sending an
email to [email protected] or by visiting www.catskillconservationcorps.org and selecting events
to register online for this work trip.
The Catskill Conservation Corps is a partnership between the New York State Department of Environmental
Conservation and the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference. The CCC aims to increase and support volunteer
contributions on projects that protect natural resources and enhance outdoor recreation opportunities in the
Catskill Mountains. Keep up with news, events, workshops, and volunteer opportunities in the Catskill region at
