Dear Briarcrest families,
Our Math Olympiad team had a very successful
year! We had over 80 students in grades 3-6
participate in the program, which works on advanced
math concepts. Ten of our students won individual
medals, and we also won four team medals. That is
truly fantastic – I am very proud of their success. The
program is made possible by the many parents who
volunteer to coach the students after school (usually
in teams of four), and all of the efforts of our
organizer, Mrs. Neble. Congratulations to all, and
let’s do it again next year!
The DVDs of Mulan are nearly finished, and will be

distributed to 5 and 6 grade students by the end of
next week. I hope you enjoy watching the show
again, and are able to share it with family and friends.
Our SBAC Testing Schedule for grades 3-6 has been
calendared for the spring, with assesments on the
following dates. Please make sure that your child is
at school and on time for their test. I also will be
making a presentation at our March 31st PTA
meeting (which starts at 7:00 PM), providing some
examples of the SBAC test and answering any parent
questions.

Our next Movie Night will be on Thursday, March
19th. We will be watching Big Hero 6. Please join us!
The movie will be from 6:30 - 8:00 in the BC
Cafeteria/Gym. Families are welcome to bring food
and snacks to eat while watching the movie.
Popcorn and water will be for sale for 50 cents each.
To save our gym floor, we ask that water be the only
beverage. Please bring pillows, blankets, bean bags,

Briarcrest Library Story Time
The Briarcrest Preschool Community Story Time is on
Mondays in the Briarcrest Library. The Story Time is
open to children ages 2-5 and their parents or
guardian. The story times will be from 9:30-10:00 AM.
We will read stories, sing songs and do a little project

Kindergarten Registration
Kindergarten registration for Shoreline residents with
students starting kindergarten in the fall of 2015 is
underway. In order to attend kindergarten in the fall, a
child must be five years old by August 31, 2015. Tell
your neighbors who have children who will be 5 by
st
August 31 to come in to register.
NOTE: The District if closed to new K-6 student living
outside the Shoreline School District boundaries.

DRESS AND PHYSICAL APPEARANCE OF STUDENTS – Spring Reminder
School District policy states, "Students' appearance should be neat and clean. Dress and appearance which cause disruption of
the educational process or present health or safety problems shall not be permitted; otherwise, dress and appearance are the
responsibility of the parent."
Safety and comfort should be considered when dressing for school. Dress should be appropriate for the weather and for active
participation in recess and P.E. Please be aware of your child's P.E. schedule. Shoes are especially important for safety: platform
shoes, party shoes, heels, flip flops, clogs are not allowed during PE. Shoes w/ rollers on them are a safety hazard and not
allowed at school.
Shorts are permitted. They should be "walking shorts", "Bermuda shorts" or "'jam" shorts. The following are not to be worn to
school: short skirts and short shorts, inappropriate wording or logos on clothing, gang related clothing, large rips or tears in
clothing, or holes above the knee in pants, sagging pants, midriff tops or spaghetti straps. Tank tops are allowed as long the
straps are 3 fingers wide and are worn with a t-shirt or camisole.
Makeup/cosmetics can be a major distraction for students wanting to visit the restroom for substantial periods of time to apply
or touch up their makeup. They need to be saved for home.
As a matter of courtesy, hats shall not be worn in school buildings. Dress should not promote, advertise or encourage behavior
or convey messages contrary to valid educational purposes or the District's educational purpose or mission.
