SLW Centennial Student Receives Wellesley Book Award
Anastasia Beckford received the Wellesley Book Award. The award honors a female
student in the junior class whose academic record and character are exceptional and
who has also made significant personal contributions to her school and community.

Congratulations to Drama Students
Congratulations to the members of The Divergent pantomime for receiving a Superior at the Theater State competition! They are Evan
McMann, Jarin Walker, Yzell St. Pierre, Brianna Costa, Candida Oliveras and Sharon Sanford.
Congratulations also go to Madeleine Simmons and Brianna Costa who were awarded a Superior for duet singing.
Aailiah Adderly and Jaci Caine received and Excellent for their duet pantomime entitled Persuasion and Daniela Recinos received an excellent for her contrasting monologues.
Our drama troupe was also very honored to perform our One Act play Stroke Static which was chosen to represent our theater district 15.
The students involved are Frankie Hernandez, Kelly O'Shea, Luna Ramirez, Courtney Bailey, Dallas Sidebottom, Aaliah Adderly, Madeline Simmons, Gianise Soto, Caleb Chronister and Dre Curtis.

Centennial’s Drama Students Present: Zombie Prom

In this story, Jonny without an H Warner, the orphaned rebel of the school, falls in love with Toffee, the school sweetheart and Baton twirler. After intense pressure from her parents as well as Ms. Strict, the school's very uptight principal, Tofffee breaks up with him, causing
a distraught Jonny to dive headlong into the town's nuclear power plant. Eddie Flagrante, reporter for Expose magazine runs the story
about the lovesick teen that committed suicide and Toffee is in mourning. However, Jonny does not stay dead for long. He soon returns as
a Zombie, brought back from the dead by Toffeee's faithfullness and love. This is where the story really takes off... Will Jonny and Toffee
get back together? Will Ms. Strict cancel Senior Prom? Will Eddie Flagrante make National News with the Zombie Story? Are Ms. Strict and
Eddie somehow connected? Will Jonny be allowed back to school? What do all the students say?
Come watch this upbeat, fun, and catchy show where Grease meets the Rocky Horror Picture Show to find out the answers to all these
questions and more.

the door for $12 each.

Y.A.L.E. (Youth Academy of Leadership and Excellence)
Saint Lucie West Centennial High School
Y.A.L.E. is a 9th grade organization created to promote academic success, leadership, philanthropy, and fellowship amongst students in
Saint Lucie West Centennial High School’s Freshman Academy. Freshmen participation in school activities and events is a vital component of
maintaining school pride and culture. Y.A.L.E. provides numerous paths to involvement for students who might not already participate in
athletics, band, chorus, drama and other clubs. At its core, Y.A.L.E. is an academic organization that supports student success: 85% of
members have a GPA over a 2.5, and 40% are on honor roll. Membership in Y.A.L.E. is highly inclusive, and is representative of the overall
population at Centennial, including ESE students, and myriad kids representing all walks of life. Y.A.L.E.’s weekly peer tutoring program has
had a demonstrable impact on the level of achievement in the Freshman Academy, and its emphasis on student involvement has emboldened
many members to branch out into other extracurricular activities and organizations. To date, Y.A.L.E. has been involved in philanthropic
outreach to several worthy causes, including supporting P.B.I.S., the CASTLE Memory Field, the Wounded Warrior Project, Breast Cancer
Awareness, the S.T.E.A.M. rap battle, and the Martin Luther King Jr. Parade. Created for and by Centennial staff and students, Y.A.L.E. would
not exist without the continued efforts of its leaders, Monarae Buchanan, Robert Guzy, Pam Jenkins, Saskia Joseph, Karla Kahn, and Rita
Markowitz. Y.A.L.E. has had an overwhelmingly positive impact at Centennial High School in its inaugural year, and the future is indeed bright
for this program.

Health Fair 2015 at SLW Centennial High School
On March 18th, Saint Lucie West Centennial High School Nursing Assistant students held their Annual Health Fair. They had a magnificent turn out. The presenters included: Project X Fitness, the Jessica Clinton MVP Foundation, 211 Teens, Treasure Coast Hospice, Children’s
Home Society of Florida, Parent Teen Community Connection, Sexual Assault Assistance Program, American Red Cross, The Inner Truth Project, Students Working Against Tobacco, Teen Choices, Protect the Heart/ CareNet, and Keiser University. Keiser University had many of their
educational programs attend and present a wide variety of topics for the students to learn about along with all of the other community partners that attended. The SLC Sheriff’s Department sent K9 handlers Deputy Benjamin Deblieck and Deputy Chris Hill and decoy Deputy David
McKeever over with K9 Thor and K9 Goose to demonstrate their skills to the students. Their demo is always a favorite.
The goal of the Health Fair was to inform the students and help them become aware their own health, and different ways to better
themselves. Each student that attended was given a passport with the names of the tables/programs that attended. Students visited each
table in the gym and had to participate or get information to get their passport stamped. This encouraged each student to learn about the
topic the community partners were presenting.
The CNA class did a great job planning the event. They demonstrated leadership skills and teamwork organizing and supervising this
event. The class would all like to thank Keiser University for sponsoring their event and everyone that participated in it.

SLW Centennial HOSA News
Eight lucky St. Lucie West Centennial HOSA students started their Spring break a little early attending the 2015 HOSA Spring Leadership
Conference March 26-29, 2015 at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort.
The students participated in competitions that enhance their high school education while improving self-confidence and building professionalism. There are over 55 competitions which include Medical Innovation, Biomedical Debate, Sports Medicine, Clinical Nursing, Barbara
James Service Award, National Service Project, and Job Seeking Skills. Students also volunteered their time to assist in conference headquarters, judging middle school events, and counting pennies for HOSA’s National Service Project-Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
One member of our team was called to the award stage three times Friday night. Senior Nathalia Gomez earned a medal for her role in
our National Service Project earning over $500 in donations for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Nathalia also works tirelessly outside of our school community as an ER volunteer at Martin Health Systems-SLW, as well as with several organizations such as Treasure
Coast Hospice and SWAT. For that, Nathalia was awarded a Bronze Level Barbara James Service Award. And finally, she was awarded a
$1000 college scholarship from HOEAF-Health Occupations Educators Association of Florida. Nathalia is now qualified to advance onto the
HOSA National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, CA in June.

Jacie Caine serves on the Florida Youth Commission, an advisory body to the Governor’s
Florida Children and Youth Cabinet. As a member, she participated in the Children’s Week
activities in Tallahassee, FL, April 10th- 14th.

Congratulations to the Centennial Chorus
The Centennial Women's Chorus attended State Competition on
April 21, 2015 at the American Heritage School, in Plantation, Florida. The ladies did an amazing job receiving one Superior rating
and two Excellent ratings. The Women's Chorus has students
ranging from the 10th grade through 12th grade who have been in
Chorus for at least two years. We are so proud of all of the Chorus' achievements this year.
