This continuing education meeting addresses clinical best practices across a broad array of primary care pediatrics from the care of infants through adolescence. Over the two day event, the conference will offer plenary presentations in dermatology, radiology, ophthalmology, and hospital care. During four workshop time slots, attendees will have a choice of twelve topics in pediatrics, including newborn care, behavioral health, asthma, concussion, medical education, and care of diverse populations. Each speakers’ goal is to provide attendees with ideas for actionable improvements in their day-to-day care of patients. The program focuses topic selection on ideas and suggestions from our annual program participants to promote the opportunity to focus on some of the most difficult challenges we face in our practices. Registration fees include conference materials, break refreshments and Friday’s Social Hour. IUSM Department of Pediatrics faculty, volunteer faculty, staff and residents-in-training may attend free of charge; however, registration is required. Our honored guest speakers are Dr. Douglas Carlson, Professor and Chair of Pediatrics at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine and Dr. Amy Nopper, Professor of Pediatrics/Dermatology at Children’s Mercy Hospital, Kansas City. This year, we are adding a new feature by recording most lectures so that attendees will have the opportunity to watch these later on-line and thereby earning additional CME at no additional cost. Please remember that the Indiana Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics annual business meeting will occur Friday at lunchtime and on Saturday we will have an update on pediatric hot topics in this year’s Indiana Legislative Session. All attendees are encouraged to attend the Friday evening Social Hour to network with community peers as well as Riley subspecialty colleagues. Course Objectives ■■ Apply state of the art approach in the care of newborns, particularly those with history of substance exposure or prematurity and NICU hospitalizations. ■■ Use enhanced skills in screening, diagnosing and managing children with behavioral issues, particularly anxiety and attention deficit disorder. ■■ Apply current best practices in the office management of children with common pediatric conditions, such as dermatitis, acne, asthma, current infectious disease outbreaks, concussions and obesity. ■■ Utilize enhanced communication skills when working with families, particularly around issues of non-adherence and in families with LGBT youth and parents. ■■ Advance your skills as an advocate for children. ■■ Apply current evidence based recommendation in the management of children in the office, hospital and radiology suite. Additional Breakfast and Luncheon registration and fees are required of all attendees. See registration form. If you prefer to bring your own paper copies of presentations, they will be available for you to download prior to the meeting. The download link for the presentations along with the passcode will be emailed to all who register one week prior to the conference. We also will have FREE WiFi available for you at the conference. Although it is free, you will need to enter the code which will be made available and posted throughout the conference, for your convenience. Community Resource Room Primary care providers need a working understanding of community resources to provide medical homes for families. Built into our program are specific breaks to encourage our attendees to visit our exhibitors in our Community Room, enjoy some refreshments and share ideas. Again, this year, we will hold a Scavenger Hunt. The nonprofit exhibitors will be identified with balloons and they will ask you a key question to help increase understanding of the services they provided. By actively participating and filling out Scavenger Hunt cards, you will be eligible to enter a drawing for prizes.
