Welcome Back
We would like to welcome all our students, staff and families back for Term 2. We extend a special
welcome to our new students and their families. The beautiful weather over the break ensured
everyone was in good spirits for the start of Term. During this Term our students will be involved in
NAPLAN, Cross Country, U8’s Day, Sporting Events, various Units of School Work and Reporting
at the end of Term. We all look forward to a productive and fun filled Term. (Pat Cavanagh)
Anzac Day
Tomorrow as part of our normal Parades we will be honouring the traditions and spirit of Anzac
Day. The local Coolum-Peregian RSL Sub Branch has extended an invitation for all to attend the
Dawn Service on Saturday 25 commencing at 5.20a.m. A number of our students will be
participating in the Dawn Service at the RSL. (Pat Cavanagh)

News from 5M
5M has been very productive recently, creating fantasy stories for the first chapter of their own
novel. We were focusing on innovative and interesting beginnings to our stories. Check out some
of these beginnings… (the rest of the stories are in the foyer of the office this week for your
reading pleasure!)
“With big paws pounding on the sweet springy grass, claws outstretched ready to slice any animal
that dare cross his path, Shadow Tiger leaped from one rock to the other in record time. Not a
snake hissed, not a bird sang. All was quiet. Strong, stealthy and silent Shadow Tiger crept up on
an owleer….” Erin
“Zoolander,” whispered Peter. “They’re here…the guards of death!” Zoolander began to wake up
in fright. He whispered back to Peter. “Call the guards” Zoolander and Peter started to creep to
their narrow swords. Zoolander’s heart was beating like a rattling pencil…” Logan
“I knew something was wrong. Adam (my twin) wasn’t acting like usual, as if something was
torturing him. Every night he’d have these terrible nightmares and I would wake up from his

The best part on camp was waking up on the top bunk and talking about our dreams. Patrick

Sports Update
Cross Country
Students have been busy preparing for our annual Cross Country event to be held on Friday 01
May. Y3 Cross Country will start at 12.15 and Y4 to 6 from 1.20 onwards with staggered starting
times. Training will continue to occur during smart moves and also within PE class time. I am also
offering before school training in the form of a running club. All students are welcome and are to
meet me on the oval at 8am.
PE Lessons
Year 1 & 2 are working on developing ball skills, specifically focusing on throwing for distance
using tennis balls and chest passing using larger balls. We are also working on catching with
larger balls.
Year 3 & 4 have been engaged in a Soccer (football) unit. This unit will pause for a few weeks
while we prepare for our Cross Country event in week 2 of Term 2.
Year 5 &6 are now into a fitness unit in preparation for our school Cross Country. We will then
move into a modified European Handball unit followed by an Athletics unit.

CASUAL POSITION VACANT – SCHOOL CROSSING SUPERVISOR
A casual position exists for a School Crossing Supervisor at Coolum Primary School. The School
Crossing Supervisor may be required to work five days per week morning and afternoon in all
weather conditions.
The current rate of pay is $27.49 per hour.
