Lesson For The Month: “Home Energy Management”

79th Annual Banquet
Thursday, May 21, 6:00 p.m.
Extension Center
Please hold this date and begin making plans
to attend our annual banquet. This year’s program
will feature the Georgetown Community Chorus
under the direction of Amy Kincaid. The group will
share popular selections from their annual spring
concert. Agenda items include the election of a
treasurer and award presentations.

Roasted Pork Loin
Mashed Potatoes with Gravy
Country Green Beans
Cooked Apples or Cranberry Relish
Spring Mix Greens with Poppy Seed Dressing
Assorted Desserts
Coffee/ Iced Tea
Paid reservations are due by May 14. The
cost is $13.50 per person. Make checks payable
to: Scott County Homemakers.
Basket Making Class
Tuesday, May 19, 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
Extension Center, Out Building
Basket maker and Extension
Homemaker, Carolyn Poe will teach
participants to make a “Long John” basket.
It is 20" high and 4 1/2" wide and is used as
a wall decoration. The teacher supplies all
materials. The cost is $25 per person and is
due when one registers. The registration
deadline is May 11. Make checks payable
to Carolyn Poe.
Students should bring an awl or ice pick,
container for water, towel, clip style clothes pins and
a pencil.
Pen & Ink With Oil Rouging
Thursday, June 11
9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
Extension Center
Bessie Bain, crafter and artist, will guide
participants and provide supplies. The workshop
will feature a wide selection of images including
barns, florals and more.
Paid reservations are due June 4. The fee is
$20. Make checks payable to Bessie Bain. Prior
experience is not required. Bessie will guide all
beginners.

 50-Year Member: The Extension Homemaker





Executive Committee wishes to recognize Scott
County Homemakers who are currently
celebrating fifty years of membership. Everyone
who joined in 1965 and who has maintained
membership is eligible. Individuals who joined
before 1965 but who have not been recognized
may also want to call. Please call 863-0984 by
May 8.
Reading Awards: Send Reading Award recipient
names to me at the Extension Center by May 8.
Chairmen Reports: Club chairmen reports are
due to me by July 1. Please do your best to
complete them on time. The forms were
distributed to club presidents in August, 2014 as
part of the President’s Handbook. Just give me a
call if you need a new form.
Scholarship Contributions: Please get your
Jenks/Robey Scholarship contributions in to the
Extension Center by June 1.
Volunteer Hour Logs: Members having
completed 500 hours and clubs having reached
the 1,000 hour goal are encouraged to send the
logs to the Extension Center by July 1.
Club Officers, Chairmen & Lesson Leader
Forms 2015-16, Pink & Green Sheets: The pink
and green sheets mailed to the club presidents
April 22 are due back to the Extension Center by
June 1. Be sure to keep a copy for your files.
Scott County Fair
June 23-27
It’s never too
early to begin making
plans to participate in
the fair. Extension
Homemakers manage
the exhibit hall, thus we
have a vested interest in
the success of this
event. Exhibit hall
entry categories include: quilts, afghans, crafts,
wearing apparel, baked food items, food preservation
and more.
Exhibit items may be entered on Monday
evening, June 22 as well as Tuesday morning,
June 23.
Super Recycling Day
Hazardous Waste
Saturday, May 9, 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.
Toyota Plant
The Toyota Plant and local government are
working together to provide this community service.
Scott County residents may bring paint, solvents,
yard chemicals, pesticides, etc. to the plant for proper
disposal. These substances should not be sent to the
landfill or dumped into our sewer system or poured
on to the ground. The plant will also accept
electronic waste at this special event.
Enter the plant at gate number 7 and follow
the signs.
Our local landfill is free to Scott County
residents the first Saturday of each month. The
location is 493 Double Culvert Road, Sadieville.
Tires, large appliances and motor oil are not
accepted on this day at Toyota. Call me for details of
alternative disposal locations for these items.
