Crawford School of Public Policy Master of Public Policy Full time: 1- 2 years Semester intake: 1 or 2 CRICOS Code: 082349C Program Code: 7825 The Master of Public Policy (MPP) degree offers you a public policy education of the highest international standards to help develop your knowledge and skills for a variety of policy roles working in and with government – in public, private and community organisations. The MPP introduces you to the latest disciplinary policy debates in the social sciences and to the analytical frameworks which will enable you to understand the specific policy and administrative context within which policy is developed, implemented, evaluated and improved. The course lecturers are leading international researchers and teachers in their fields of public policy, including policy reform, national and international governance and comparative public policy; and specialist areas including social policy, energy, environment, food, health and biofuels. Teaching approaches combine theory and practice to build the analytical tools and knowledge necessary for high-quality policy analysis, including design, advocacy, and evaluation, as well as building political and program management capabilities. Crawford School offers you the flexibility to select a general MPP as well as MPP specialisations in development policy, international policy, economic policy, policy analysis and social policy. The MPP is a professional degree which is completed in-career (minimum three years of relevant work experience). This ensures an educational experience in which your work experiences are used to bring life to policy and management issues. Increase your capability to respond to complex public policy issues Upon successful completion of your degree, you will have a sound understanding of the key debates and thinking in the field of public policy, in Australia and globally, matched by the 1 CRAWFORD SCHOOL OF PUBLIC POLICY - Master of Public Policy ability to critically analyse and engage with these issues from a practical and theoretical viewpoint. You will have developed new skills and extended your existing research skills using qualitative and quantitative methodologies relevant to the field of public policy and your particular interests and challenges. In response to complex political and institutional policy problems, you will have proven skills to analyse, synthesise and communicate from multiple perspectives and develop innovative policy recommendations in changing policy environments. You will understand challenges relating to management, implementation and evaluation of public policies and respond to these in innovative ways. Admission requirements A Bachelor degree or international equivalent with at least three years’ work experience in a public sector or related environment. (see program structure of a 96-unit/two-year full time MPP). Credit may be granted to applicants with qualifications in a cognate discipline and/or with substantial relevant work experience in addition to the minimum three years: - Applicants with a Bachelor Degree or Graduate Certificate in a cognate discipline may be eligible for 24 units (1 semester) of credit. (see program structure of a 72-unit/one-and-a-half full time MPP) - Applicants with a Graduate Diploma or Honours in a cognate discipline may be eligible for 48 units (1 year) of credit. Students must achieve a minimum 65 per cent weighted average mark in the initial component to continue to the concluding component .
