The Master of Public Administration (MPA) is designed for future leaders of government,
civil society and market organisations responsible for pursuing the public interest. The
graduate degree integrates theory and practice in enhancing understanding, knowledge and
skills essential to the management and leadership of public organisations. The MPA
approach uses various analytical lens that structure, guide and inform an assessment of the
complexities and challenges of organising public action within and across the state, market
and civil society.
The MPA is designed to establish your career as an effective manager and leader in public
administration, giving you the relevant knowledge and skills to succeed amidst the
complexities and challenges of administration, management and governance in public
organisations.
The MPA is an essential professional degree for those pursuing career advancement in

The compulsory and elective subjects explore contemporary public issues and dilemmas

The MPA is a professional degree and requires work experience in a public sector or related
environment. This ensures an educational experience in which work experience can be used
to bring life to issues in policy, administration, management and governance. The MPA will

change in government and governance in the public arena.
The MPA offers you a flexible program for course sequencing to balance your graduate
study with your career. The MPA may be completed in 1-2 years full-time or part-time
equivalent (subject to eligibility) with access to a range of timetable options to best suit your
work commitments.

Admission requirements

A Bachelor degree or international equivalent with work experience in a public
sector or related environment.
o Applicants with a Bachelor Degree or Graduate Certificate in a cognate
discipline may be eligible for 24 units (one semester) of credit.
o Applicants with a Graduate Diploma or Honours in a cognate discipline may
be eligible for 48 units (one year) of credit.
Credit may also be available for relevant work experience.
Students must complete the pre-sessional component to continue to the initial
component.
Students must achieve a minimum 65% weighted average mark in the initial
component to continue to the concluding component.

transferred to the Graduate Diploma of Public Policy.

The degree requires the completion of 96 units (16 courses)1, which must consist of presessional component, 48 units (8 courses) from the initial component and 48 units (8
courses) from the concluding component.
Students must achieve a minimum 65 per cent weighted average mark in the initial
component to continue to the concluding component.
