Biography:
I grew up in West Wales but I’ve lived and worked in the Cambridge area for around thirty years.
We moved to our family home in Histon in the 1990s, where our two children attended the local
schools.
I currently work as a plant scientist and have been fortunate to study for a PhD quite recently.
Personal views:
I want people to get on in life not just get by.
We need to help each individual achieve their potential, protect the vulnerable and stop the culture
that allows some to plunder the economy through excessive wages and bonuses.
We need to protect the Cambridge area’s science led economy; losing EU research funding would
damage our prosperity.
I believe that communities acting together, with local democratic accountability, deliver the best
high quality services. I’m also passionate about defending our NHS.
I will always stand up for South East Cambridgeshire and fight the damage being done by this
Tory-led Government.
Community, Politics and Campaigning:
• I have been a member of the Labour Party since my Twenties. I revived as an activist in 2011.
• I am a governor at Impington Village College and have campaigned for fairer funding alongside
fellow governors.
• I am part of the group that runs the Impington Fireworks Extravaganza.
• I am part of the committee and working party for Histon Community Orchard.
• I have been a cycle trainer with the local school.
• I campaigned against the Cambridgeshire NHS privatisation
• I opposed the conversion of Cambridgeshire schools to Academies.
• I believe politicians must engage with their communities. To that end I have spent my
weekends out on the streets of towns and villages in SE Cambridgeshire, meeting with people
from all walks of life.
• I’m a long-term supporter of two charities, WaterAid and Sustrans.
• I belong to Unite the Union.
• I am a blood donor.
• I have joined various national demonstrations opposing war, austerity, cuts in public services
and globalisation in the hands of the 1%; also local demonstrations in favour of keeping our
NHS public and against the EDL bringing racism to our streets.
• I have taken part in events to promote public understanding of science.
