"Witches Feast" play
"Witches Feast" play
The play "Witches
Feast", performed by
Branko
Mihaljevic
Children's
theatre
from Osijek (Croatia),
was held in the
European School IV in Laeken on April 16th 2015.
Together with pupils from EEB4, around one
hundred Croats attended the play. The Croatian
ambassador Mr. Mario Nobilo and school director
Mr. Wulf Schlabe welcomed the attendees and
organizers and thanked them for coming. They
expressed their hope that this will be the first of
many cultural events as this was the first event for
the Croatian community since Croatia became a
member of the European Union.
Rosalina
After the witch Madame Pompadour gets involved
and kidnaps Rosalina, the wizard Giuseppe
Maccharoni arrives and kidnaps Flamenija being
convinced that she is Rosalina. This awkward
confusion and seemingly hopeless situation gets
positively resolved in the end for overall happiness
and satisfaction. Janos and Rosalina, as well as
Madame Pompadour and Giuseppe Maccharoni, are
now happy couples in love, and Rosalina's father
finally understood that his daughter is much more
important than money.
School director in conversation with Croatian
ambassador and organizer
The main character of this fairytale play was a
wealthy miser Alfonso Pantaloni who objects to the
true love of his daughter Roselina and a poor
gardener Janos.
Witches feast
Although the set had very little props (one wooden
wagon), the actors just by acting and shifting the
curtains managed to present many different
locations (rose garden, bedroom, balcony,
bathroom, a deserted island just for four people...).
All the time the actors were followed by colored
lights which expressed feelings, weather conditions
and special effects. There was a lot of singing and
dancing through the whole play. All the actors are
also excellent singers, musicians and dancers. Mr.
Đorđe Dukić, a real guitar artist, in a later
conversation said that he doesn't play the guitar just
for the play, but also for family and friends.
I had an oportunity to have a look behind the scene
and take part in placing the posters and reflectors
and also to talk with the actors. I found out that all
the actors are in this play since it began 20 years
ago, and in spite of everything they never gave up.
They performed it more than two hundred times on
stages all around the world, and with this
performance they were very pleased: "We will
remember the long
lasting applaud from
Brussels for a long
time, and according to
people that saw the
play, this event will be
remembered!"
