City of Orlando Police Department HQ Solicitation
City of Orlando Police Department HQ
Solicitation for Artists for Public Sculpture
MISSION:
See Art Orlando’s mission is to enhance the aesthetic experience and cultural image of Downtown Orlando through major
Public Sculptures. The installation of iconic works of art throughout the City brings National and International attention to
Orlando and adds to the economic viability of the community.
The purpose of this Call to Artists is to procure an artist to design a contemporary sculpture to recognize the service of
Orlando Police Officers to their community. The artwork will focus on the pride and commitment of Orlando’s officers and
will convey a message of honor, appreciation and community service. The sculpture will also provide an appropriate site
for ceremonial activities at the City of Orlando Police Department. Artist Design Budget - $100,000.
ELIGIBILITY:
See Art Orlando requests a design that is contemporary in style. This project is open to local, national and international
professional sculptors that specialize in the design, construction and installation of large-scale outdoor sculpture. The
artist must have a proven track record meeting budget and time schedule. Consideration will only be given to professional
sculptors whose work has been or is currently on display in a public setting.
The sculpture should be created of material appropriate to an outdoor environment, must be of suitable construction that
will last in perpetuity with minimal maintenance and be appropriate for public viewing. Orlando, Florida has a sub-tropical
climate and is hot and humid with intense sun and seasonal heavy rain. Materials with problems of rust and fading should
be avoided. Resistance to high-speed, hurricane force winds is important. The sculpture must meet applicable building
codes.
This local, national and international call for artists will reflect the most current contemporary art being created locally and
around the world. The sculpture should reflect the vision and creative environment of the Orlando community and its
vibrant culture.
INSTALLATION SITE:
Orlando Police Department Headquarters: SE corner of the intersection of Orange Blossom Trail and South Street,
Orlando, Florida. The See Art Orlando Board will evaluate each artists work based on submission materials and seek
more detailed proposals if needed. Specific criteria includes: the artists professional qualifications and proven ability to
undertake projects of a similar scope and artistic merit as evidenced by the submitted materials. In some instances,
selection may require additional approval of corporate and/or local government representatives. Finalists for this project
will be chosen on the proposed sculpture and on the strength of previous work as evidenced by the visual support
