SASKATCHEWAN TRAPSHOOTING CHAMPIONSHIPS Regina July 16 - 19, 2015 - 20 - Be Safety Wise... Your Directors and the Amateur Trapshooting Association are extremely concerned about safe gun handling. Section “H” of the Official A.T.A. Rule Book deals with safety and provides for discipline of violators. In particular, concern is Rule Numbers 13, 14 & 15. 13. All guns must have the action open and contain no live shell at all times except while the shooter is on the firing line or the gun is in a gun rack. The gun’s action may be closed when it is in a gun rack but it shall not contain a live shell. Paragraph 12, above, and Paragraph 15, below, govern the only time a gun may contain a live shell. Repeat violators of these Rules will be given a thirty (30) day suspension upon a second violation of these Rules; a third violation of these Rules will result in a ninety (90) day suspension; and further violations will be reviewed by the Executive Committee for further disciplinary action. 14. As a safety precaution, test shots will not be permitted. 15. A contestant shall place a live shell in his gun only when at a firing point facing the traps. In singles shooting, he may place only one shell in his gun at a time and must remove it or the empty case before moving from one position to another. In changing from one post to another, the shooter should not walk in front of the other competitors. All guns used by contestants must be so equipped and so used as not to eject empty shells in a manner to substantially disturb or interfere with other contestants. The management may disqualify a contestant for violation of these Rules. The Directors of the Sask. Amateur Trapshooting Association and the members of the gun club will, during this shoot, be reminding violators of these rules and will apply penalties if necessary. We should all review our habits and make an effort to correct the bad ones! SAFETY 1.Do not load your gun except when standing in a shooting position and not until it is your turn to shoot. If the yellow flag goes up, immediately unload your gun and wait until the yellow flag goes down indicating ready. 2.Load one shell only in your gun at a time for singles or two shells only for doubles. 3.Do not carry your gun with breach closed. 4.Do not place your hand or any other part of your body over the muzzle of your gun. 5.Do not point your gun in the direction of any person even though you know the gun is not loaded. 6. Always carry your gun with the breach open and muzzle down. 7. Only target loads may be used, see section XIII - G in ATA Rule Book. 8.Each individual should have their own gun. The practice of sharing a gun is not allowed. 9.Protective shooting glasses and ear plugs or muffs are mandatory. 10. All empty hulls which hit the ground are the property of the club. 11. All adjustments of trap machines are to be made only by authorized personnel. 12. All loading of trap machines is to be done by qualified personnel. 13.The club reserves the right to refuse shooting privileges to individuals possessing faulty firearms and/or ammunition. 14.The club assumes no responsibility for injuries or damages resulting from the use of faulty firearms and/or ammunition.
