VOLUNTEER SIGN UP May 2nd – June 1st
A student’s recital participation assumes a volunteer responsibility from a parent. Volunteering is a required part of your recital commitment. Each
family is required to provide at least one volunteer. Each recital dancer’s account will be assessed a $25+tax backstage supervision fee prior to
recital. For those dancers whose family provides at least one volunteer at recital, the supervision fee will be removed from their account following
the recital. So that family members may enjoy their child’s performance, we need and encourage you to volunteer for a recital in which your child is
not performing (if you prefer). There are 4 different performances at CY Stephens this year, giving you a variety of options and opportunities to
volunteer. Performance day/times are as follows:

Recital Performance A (Children’s Production “Frozen”)
Recital Performance B (includes “Raymonda”)

Recital Performance C (Includes Jazz/Tap/Contemporary/Lyrical section “School’s Out”)
A sign-up sheet will be available online starting May 2nd. An email will be sent that day with the link you will need to use. There will be specific
assignments for each of the performances listed above. Please be sure to confirm your volunteer date and time when you bring your child to staging
rehearsals. We will also be reviewing your volunteer duties at that time. If you have questions, please contact the backstage coordinator, Lisa Davis
at 515-233-0826 or [email protected]. We need support from every family to make this work. Thanks in advance for volunteering.
TICKETS
There will be no ticket sales this year. Your recital fee covers the cost of your admission, and this was included in your monthly payments. Invite as
many people as you wish to the performances, everyone is welcome.
COSTUMES
Costume pick-up begins May 26th. All charges for the year need to be cleared to receive costumes (even if you are on auto-billing).
We will not schedule a day for costumes to be worn in class, as all costumes will be tried on prior to pickup. Any necessary alterations are the
responsibility of the customer.
TIGHTS MUST BE WORN UNDER ALL COSTUMES
--Please save the new tights that come with your costume for photo day and the recital, so they are clean with no holes or runs.
--Classes with rental costumes MUST wear pink trunks or a nude camisole under their costumes. These are available for purchase at the
Dancenter. Classes with rental costumes are:
IYB Advanced piece Komediante
IYB Intermediate 1& 2 piece Amour et Printemps
Raymonda rental costumes
(Select) Stage and Screen props
XL Advanced Ballet Men’s tights
Irish Hardshoe buckles are rentals, and need to be returned
All Demonstrator and Assistant Costumes

Rental costumes and props should be returned to the costume return table in the basement of CY immediately after their last
performance use. Be sure the volunteer checks them off as they are being returned. No rental costumes or costume pieces or rental
props should leave Stephens Auditorium on Saturday.
COSTUME CARE
-Put the dancer’s name in all shoes and purchased costumes.
-Carry rental costumes in the plastic bag provided.
-Do not remove any of the tags or straps from your rental costume.
-Do not eat or drink in costume.
-Keep costumes hung up before and after performance.
-Double check sewing on shoes (ribbons and elastic).
-Pointe shoe ribbons should be tucked in securely.
-Double tie shoelaces.
-No jewelry or nail polish should be worn with costume.
-NEW Tights are provided with your costumes, please save them for photos & recital, so they will be clean with no holes or runs.
-We recommend that nude camisoles (for female dancers) or nude compression trunks (for male dancers) be worn underneath costumes for
dancers who have quick or multiple costume changes.
-Underwear should not be worn under tights.
MAKE-UP AND HAIR—see page 17 for additional instruction
Dancers are asked to do hair and make-up at home before coming to the theatre.
Instructions for make-up (for female AND male performers)
Make-up should be slightly darker than street make-up and should include blush, lipstick and eyeliner (drawn at bottom of eye, slightly beyond
corner of the eye). Dancers should bring lipstick with them to the performance for touch-ups as needed.
Instructions for hair
Irish
WGRIPK15, WGRIA15, and WGWIB15 Irish students need to see the instructor for instructions on how to wear their hair. For any student in
an XL Irish class, hair pieces are required. Hairpieces MUST be ordered from http://www.cheerleaderhairpieces.com/ in the "Hottie" 10 inch
style.
Medium to long length (Ballet):
All girls with medium length and long hair need to wear a bun (or pre-approved hairstyle) for ballet. No bangs allowed. The bun needs to be
tightly secured with a hairnet and bobby pins. A setting gel and hair spray will help to keep the bangs back and the hair on the sides of the
head and the back of neck in place. Please bring your own comb for your hair touch-ups as needed.
Short length (Ballet):
Short hair should be curled or feathered back from the face and well sprayed.
Jazz-Tap
See instructor.
Boys & Men
Boys & men’s hair should be neatly trimmed, preferably off the ears and collar and out of the eyes.
Accelerated Training For Your Dancer
The XL programs represent an accelerated curriculum of classes. They are designed to train
dancers pursuing a more aggressive approach to dance technique training. XL programs
are open to all Dancenter students. Although age is an important factor, ability of the
dancer is the first consideration. All dancers’ placement in the XL program is based on
excellence level. Please contact Robert Thomas if you feel this program is for your dancer.

1. Photos will be taken at the Ames South Dancenter
2. Dancers in Ballet/Tap & Ballet/Tap/Jazz combination classes should wear ballet shoes/costumes for photos. Dancers in Jazz/Tap
combination classes should wear tap shoes/costumes for photos.
3. Jazz/Lyrical and Contemporary classes-if you wear foot thongs for a dance, please go barefoot for photos. No polish on toes.
4. For XL Ballet, XL Irish, and IYB students, in addition to having a photo time for your class in costume, we have scheduled a group photo
time for all XL Ballet, a group photo time for all XL Irish students, and a group photo time for members of the IYB Intermediate 1 and
Intermediate 2 and Advanced Company members. For the group XL Ballet photo, students should wear a black leotard. For the IYB company
photo, please wear your black IYB class leotard that has the IYB logo on it, or a plain black camisole leotard. The tights that will be provided
with the XL recital costumes (Capezio style number 1816 for adult sizes, 1816c for child sizes, in ballet pink) may be worn with both the XL
and IYB group pictures for the girls. Male XL/IYB attire: black tights, black ballet shoes, snug fitting plain white t-shirt or white men's
leotards. For the XL Irish group photo, students will wear their recital costume.
5. A photo time has been scheduled for the dancers who are graduating from high school. For this photo, please wear whichever one of your
dance costumes that you prefer.
6. Please note group photo times have been scheduled for Irish Soft shoe classes, but not hard shoe. If you would like an individual photo taken
of your dancer in their Irish Hard shoe costume/shoes, this can be worked in between group photo times.

7. All dancers are asked to attend so that students who want group photographs may have their entire class in the photograph. Checks should be
made out to “Pete Tekippe Photography”. The photos will be mailed to your home. All transactions must be paid for on this day. Cash, checks,
credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Discover) are accepted.
8. Please arrive at the Dancenter 15 minutes prior to your designated photo time with make-up on and hair done. Carry costume with you.

You should fill out one form per routine. You only need to fill out the address and phone number on one form.
Just one check, or information from one credit card (on one form) is needed for ALL orders. Order forms

Please arrive 15 minutes before scheduled rehearsal time. This is very important as sometimes we run ahead of schedule.
Bring costumes to wear on-stage. Put costumes on at Stephens Auditorium.
Photos/VCR recordings may be taken at this time.
Enter Stephens Auditorium through the stage door on the southeast side of the building.
Parents of young dancers should stay with their child until the child’s group goes on-stage.
We will not have supervisors until the performance.
6. No stage make-up is required. Irish students should wear their hairpieces for staging rehearsal, for all other dancers, performance hair is optional.
7. “Frozen” and “Raymonda” themes will run in performance order.
8. “Frozen” classes will have assigned seating in the auditorium. They should sit with their class, and come up on stage when they are called for
rehearsal.
9. Parents may watch in auditorium.
10. All Performers in the 1:30pm First Act, and 7pm performance are required to attend the Final Bow rehearsal for their performance. Please check
the Order of Performances on pages 13-14 to know which of the performances your student is participating in.

Performance procedure:
1. Dancers should arrive with make-up on and hair fixed.
2. Please carry costume(s) to performances.
3. Go to assigned dressing room and be sure to check in with the adult volunteer. Adult volunteers will monitor classes as needed.
4. PK or EA Dancers who are performing in the “Frozen” section should go to their assigned dressing room, and check in with the volunteer.
Parents, please help your dancer put on their costume and dance shoes for their first number (please remember to label all shoes and costume
pieces with the dancer's name). Then, if your child dances in the first act of “Frozen”, please take your dancer and their other pair of dance shoes
(in a box or tote clearly labeled with the dancer’s name) to the backstage area assigned to their class. Those dancers who are only in Act 2 of
“Frozen” will remain in their dressing room with their volunteers.
5. Please plan a pick-up point with your child for after the show. Younger children must be picked up at their dressing area. For older children,
suggested meeting areas are the Green Room and the southeast stage door area.
6. No picture taking/VCR recording during the performances.

The Irish Performance Team (IPT) has numerous performance possibilities
at a variety of venues throughout the year, including:
*Dublin Bay Irish Pub and Restaurant in Ames
*St. Patrick's Day performances at various places throughout Ames and surrounding areas
*Regular guest performers in the Robert Thomas Dancenter Expo performance at CY Stephens, Ames
*Ames City Band Summer Concert Series
*Iowa State Fair
Dancers enrolled in XLA Irish or higher are welcome to audition for IPT
Auditions dates will be January 2016, and will be announced at a later time.

DANCENTER DANCER SEASON OVERVIEW
 Dancenter Dancers learn a variety of dances each season.
 Dancenter Dancers participate in several workshops each year taught by nationally
known choreographers. Dancenter Dancers also bring in professional
choreographers to work privately with the entire group. Workshops are usually held
from October through March.
 Dancenter Dancers perform at up to six competitions and/or workshops per season.
Competitions usually take place from November through early May with the possibility
of Nationals during the summer.
 The competitions take place throughout the Midwest; as close as Des Moines or as far
away as Minneapolis and Kansas City.
BENEFITS OF DANCENTER DANCERS
 Dancenter Dancers provide the dancer the opportunity to learn and perform multiple
dance styles, including contemporary, jazz, lyrical, musical theater, and tap in small
group, Large Group, and production settings.
 Dancers learn stage presence, showmanship and self-confidence through the various
performance opportunities. Dancenter Dancers give the dancer the opportunity to
develop stronger technique through focused classes aimed at training the students in
the various styles.
CLASS REQUIREMENTS
 Because ballet technique is the foundation of all dance genres, enrollment in
Dancenter XL ballet classes is required of all Dancenter Dancers.
 Dancenter Dancer classes meet 1-2 times per week with class length increasing as the
dancers grow older.
 Enrollment in additional Dancenter classes is encouraged as additional time in the
studio makes the dancer stronger.
DANCENTER DANCER PHILOSOPHY
 The Dancenter Dancers are part of a group of like- minded individuals all striving for
the same goal of self improvement. Working as a group and supporting fellow
teammates are important values the Dancenter Dancers maintain throughout the
season. Dancers learn the importance of teamwork and how much each individual
contributes to the success of the whole. All Dancenter Dancers do their part to reach
for the stars!
