Age shall be determined as at 28th May, the opening date of the Eisteddfod.
Competitors MUST conform to the age limits placed in the syllabus. The Committee reserves the right in any
age competition to call upon any competitor to furnish at his/her own expense, proof of age, and to withhold
any prize until such proof has been furnished.
In Groups and Ensemble Sections, the group MUST enter in the age group of the oldest person in the group.
Entries will not be accepted from anyone who has been a pupil of the Adjudicator in the last six months.
Communication with the Adjudicator by competitors, teachers or other interested parties is strictly forbidden.
All enquiries must be made at the Secretary’s table.
The decision of the Adjudicator will be FINAL. He/she will have the power to withhold, or divide prizes
according to merit. He/she will also be entitled to award a second or third prize ONLY if he/she thinks the
standard of the item does not warrant a first prize. This decision will be explained when making the
adjudication.
Where time limits are stated, the performance must be kept within the specified time. Time is determined
from the first note, dance step, action or word spoken, to the last note, dance step, action or word spoken.
Time keepers will be present and competitors who exceed the time limit will be given an adjudication report
but no marks will be awarded. Subject to the Adjudicator’s discretion, an allowance of no more than 30
seconds overtime may be given.
If, through unforeseen circumstances, the Adjudicator is unable to perform his/her duties, the Committee
reserves the right to appoint a substitute.
The competition is open to all amateur performers. For the purpose of this Eisteddfod, an amateur is defined
as someone whose major source of income is not derived from the subject of the entry. Open sections are
open to all comers, including teachers and assistant teachers.
The same item or dance may not be performed in more than one section.
Competitors may not render an item with which they have won a First Prize in last year’s Eisteddfod. Open
Choral Championship Rule Waiver excepted.
NOVICE SECTIONS – Competitors must not have been learning for more than 18 months and entry forms
MUST be endorsed by teacher. RESTRICTED SECTIONS – Must not have won a First Prize in any
Eisteddfod. Entry form must be accompanied by teacher’s endorsement. In Dance sections, competitors
must not have won any prize in any Eisteddfod in any style of dance before.
In sections where two or more people are competing in combination, a competitor may compete in more
than one combination in the same section twice only. This applies to duos, trios and groups.
Any competitor who fails to appear at the time scheduled in the Official Programme, will not be eligible to
compete. In cases of school or government exams coinciding with the Eisteddfod, a competitor may make a
request to be heard at an earlier time. This request needs to be made at least 24 hours prior. In such cases
the competitor will have to show proof that he/she is being examined elsewhere, and the request can only be
granted subject to the willingness of the Adjudicator.
Except in exceptional circumstances entry fees will not be refunded.
If there are insufficient entries in an item, the Committee reserves the right to combine that item with the next
age group in that section or withdraw the item, and return the entry fees.
In sight reading, and dance improvisation sections, ALL competitors must leave the hall at the Chairperson’s
request.
Competitors perform at their own risk.
The stage area, pianos and organs will NOT be available for rehearsal during the Eisteddfod.
The Committee takes all care, but accepts NO RESPONSIBILITY, for loss or damage to books, papers,
music, instruments, tapes, CDs, costumes or other property of the competitor.
The use of Video Cameras, Still Cameras and Mobile Phone Cameras WILL NOT BE PERMITTED AT ANY
VENUE, due to the Privacy Act. All entry to the Venue is subject to this proviso. Offenders will be asked to
leave.
A high standard of decorum and presentation is expected from all spectators and participants. Unseemly
language or unpleasant behaviour which is contrary to the spirit of the Eisteddfod will result in the offender
being asked to leave. DOORS WILL BE CLOSED DURING AN ITEM.
PROTESTS. Protests must be lodged to the Session Secretary in writing within 30 minutes of the conclusion
of the item concerned. A fee of $100.00 must accompany lodgement.
In all sessions teachers cannot fill key positions such as pencilling or Chairperson. Parents cannot assist at
the Adjudicator’s table for any item in which they have a child competing.

In Dance sections, competitors may have an accompanist or use a tape recording or CD. A CD player will
be provided by the Committee and manned by authorised personnel. Dance items should be on separate
tapes and/or CDs, and each item should be at the beginning of the tape or CD, cued ready to start.
Competitors may LOSE 5 MARKS for unprepared tapes.
26 Plain leotards to be worn for all dance improvisation sections.
27 No person, other than competitors, will be allowed backstage. Teachers wanting to place props on stage for
competitors under 12 years, may do so after applying to the Secretary’s table. They will be accompanied by
an official and MUST LEAVE THE BACKSTAGE AREA before their item commences. Senior students
accompanying baby groups backstage may wait for the group behind the back curtain. Anyone found waiting
in the wings, or prompting from the wing, will cause their group to be disqualified.
28 Props must be kept to a minimum. Due to shortage of space, props cannot be stored. They must be
delivered to the hall prior to the morning session, and removed from the premises at the end of the s e s s i o n
in which they were used.
29 Copies of own choice selections and dancers’ tapes and CDs must be handed in at the Secretary’s table 15
minutes prior to the opening of the session.
30 In all Music sections other than Country Music, Popular Music and Choral/ Vocal Ensembles no tapes or
CDs as accompaniment are allowed. In sections where backing tapes are permitted, the part being
performed may not be doubled on the recording. The eisteddfod committee will facilitate backing tracks
on CD, IPod or MP3. If ensembles choose to use backing tracks it is the performer’s responsibility to
ensure balance within the performance and operate the backing track. Items should be on separate tapes
and/or CDs, and each item should be at the beginning of the tape or CD, cued ready to start. Competitors
will LOSE 5 MARKS for unprepared tapes.
31 To avoid disruption to the programme, music stands, drums, etc. may be left at the hall prior to the morning
session, and removed during the breaks or at the conclusion of the evening session. Please contact the
Convenor to arrange definite times.
32 In all MUSIC sections, copies of accompanying parts must be submitted with Own Choice pieces.
33 Music groups and ensembles MUST provide their own music stands. At all venues only two music stands will
be provided by the committee.
34 Music sections warm up and tuning: from the moment a group walks on stage, a maximum of 3 minutes is
allowed. This time includes setting up, warm up and tuning, after which performance time begins.
35 Non-playing conductors may conduct any number of ensembles.
36 Age limits do not apply to conductors provided they do not play an instrument in the ensemble.
37 In instrumental ensemble sections with piano, the piano player is part of the ensemble and must comply
with section age limits.
38 In instrumental ensembles sections competitors may appear twice in one section provided that they are
representing different organisations. i.e a competitor may appear once for their school and once for a
community orchestra in the same section.
39 Schools may enter more than one ensemble or choir in the same section, however the membership for
each group needs to be different. Schools need to provide a list of group members when they register on
the day of the performance otherwise only the first programmed group will be eligible for a prize

Instrumental Ensembles
Tentative Dates: June 17th
Music groups and ensembles MUST provide their own music stands. At all venues only
two music stands will be provided by the committee.
Music sections warm up and tuning: from the moment a group walks on stage, a
maximum of 3 minutes is allowed. This time includes setting up, warm up and tuning,
after which performance time begins. Competitors who are drawn to perform first
in a section may not enter the stage until called, and will be subject to the same
time constraints as all other competitors. Following competitors may enter the
stage as soon as the preceding competitor has vacated the stage.
Non-playing conductors may conduct any number of ensembles.
Age limits do not apply to conductors provided they do not play an instrument in the
ensemble, sections 223 and 224 excepted.
In instrumental ensemble sections with piano, the piano player is part of the ensemble
and must comply with section age limits. The exception to this rule is sections 216,
217 (accompaniment), 223 and 224, where the there may be either a conductor or
accompaniment from a teacher who is over age.
In instrumental ensembles sections competitors may appear three times in one
section provided that they are representing different organisations. i.e a competitor
may appear once for their school and once for a community orchestra and once for a
community band in the same section.
Schools may enter more than one ensemble in the same section, however the
membership for each group needs to be different. Schools need to provide a list of
group members when they register on the day of the performance otherwise only
the first programmed group will be eligible for a prize
In instrumental ensemble sections the following equipment will be provided:
