Schools, Sonja Santelises.

July 1. Sonja Santelises previously
performed as the Chief Academic
Officer here at Baltimore City
Schools. She helped the district
implement the Common Core
Standards and elementary students improved their academic performance on standardized test. Before coming to Baltimore City
Schools, Dr. Santelises was an assistant superintendent in Boston
Public Schools, overseeing 25 pilot schools created to improve academic performance. She also served as the deputy superintendent
for teaching and learning for professional development .

Completion of the migration of
14,000 mailboxes from Exchange to
Office 365, and moved the last 3
years of archived email along with it.

Upgraded all of the workstations and
laptops in HQ to office 365 Pro Plus.

With the help of laptop services,
Airwatch was installed on all phones
in HQ and in the schools providing
easy to use Instructions.

Installed a new tool called Clearwell
that is used to search mail, file
shares, desktops and laptops for information related to legal cases and
litigations.

1:1 Technology Pilot Program
The Information Technology Department has received board
approval to pilot a program in two schools to purchase new
desktops and laptops for teachers and students to obtain a 1:1
student device ratio.
The two city schools that were chosen were Dallas F. Nicholas
Elementary School and Edgewood Elementary School.
Each school will receive:

30 desktop computers to refresh computer labs.

Teacher laptops for instructional staff.

Laptop computers for each student



Mobile charging carts for laptop storage and security (1
per homeroom.
1 Technician/school.
While partnering with the Office Of Teaching & Learning, the
district will roll out new professional development for teacher
focused on the use of digital media tools for instruction for
teachers at the two pilot schools. Device and subject specific
professional development has been created to assist with the
integration of the devices into daily instruction.

Baltimore City School’s Students Speak-Up
Congressional Briefing
Candice Boone, City Schools ITD, Teacher School Support staff members accompanied the group. Ron Beazer leads
this annual campaign in City Schools, LMS team are vital in the
creation of eLearning assets used by teachers for PARCC practice and in blended learning environment. The data from these
campaigns are used to support initiatives that provides technology resources for teachers and students in City schools. The
2016 campaign open in the fall and it is our hope that all stakeholders will use this wonderful opportunity to “SpeakUp” and

On May 5, 2016, Kyla Thompson, CTE Teacher at Friendship Academy of Engineering and Technology and one aspiring scholar Omar Green, traveled to Washington DC to participate in the SpeakUp Congressional Briefing. At the briefing, the Speak
-Up data collected in fall 2015 (October – December) is released and discussed. Students from various school districts serve as the panel of experts
and provide additional insights on data and what
they believe 21st Century learning should embody. These student panelist represents the
over 4.5 million voices that have participated in
the annual campaign. The student from Baltimore City were excited to be a part of the selected group of experts and represented City
Schools well. This event, hosted by ProjectTomorrow.org, is held each Spring.
Speak-Up is a unique research project designed to
collect and report on the authentic, unfiltered ideas
and views of K-12 students and their parents, teachers and administrators. Over the past 8 years, Baltimore City Schools have been a successful partner in
this effort with almost 7,000 students from Baltimore participated. The data collected are instrumental in our efforts to deliver more appropriate
technology resources to our teachers and students
in the classroom and beyond.

“I AM MY SISTERS KEEPER”

My Sisters Keeper is about inspiring young black women
to be strong, courageous, and successful. This conference
and program is to help inspire and motivate young ladies
within the urban communities of Baltimore City. They
offered many workshops from self love, being your own
boss, staying motivated, and how to let go of toxic relationships. All of which to inspire not only young women
but all women to become and achieve better for themselves.
Guest speaker, actress Keisha Knight-Pulliam did an excellent job presenting and sharing her inner most secrets
of how she became the woman that she is today.
Ladies, you don’t want to miss next year’s event!!!
