Dear Parents/Caregivers
A big thank you to our families who hosted our guests from Nagisa School in Japan
last week, your assistance is most appreciated. Our guests had a wonderful week
enjoying their time at Greenpark School and taking in some of our New Zealand
culture.

STAFFING: This week we welcomed Matua Tama Aikman to Greenpark School. Tama
is teaching in Room 18 for the remainder of the school year while Whaea Ebony
Kahukura is on maternity leave.
Last week we welcomed Mrs Kerry Hardisty back to Greenpark School. Kerry is
teaching our latest New Entrant class in Room 32.

NEWEST ARRIVALS: We would like to send our Congratulations to:
 Mrs Reannan Burgess and husband Gareth on the birth of their son Jake
Turner on the 12th July.
 Mrs Trish Valois and husband Jason on the birth of their daughter Adeline
Grace on the 31st July.
 Mrs Sarah Talbut and husband Cameron on the birth of their daughter Elise
Lesley on the 5th August.
 Mr Josh Dickey and wife Amy on the birth of their daughter Tula Grae on
the 10th August.
Our very best wishes to you all.

DROP OFF & PICK UP: A reminder to all motorists that when dropping off your
children and picking them up you MUST observe the road rules. We have had
complaints from residents in both Sinclair and Lumsden Streets regarding vehicles
being parked over driveways. Also I would like to reiterate that the staff carpark is
for staff vehicles ONLY and is NOT to be used when dropping off children to
HomeTime before school.

DAFFODIL DAY: Greenpark School will again this year be supporting the NZ Cancer
Society with their National Fundraiser Daffodil Day on Friday 28 August. We will
have daffodils available at the school office for a donation. All money raised will be
going directly to the Cancer Society. Daffodils will be available at the office from now
until the 28 August.

JUMP JAM: Congratulations to our Jump Jam Team under the guidance of Miss
Stephanie Harris who have secured a place in the National Finals which will be held
in Christchurch.
Greenpark School is very excited to be a finalist in the JUMP JAM CHALLENGE. Our team
will be practicing hard between now and November. The Nationals Competition is in
Christchurch on November 7th. I have a team of 12 and some of the girls have never
been out of Tauranga before let alone been on a plane, so it is will be a life changing trip
for them.
While participation in JUMP JAM makes all children winners the national competition
provides an opportunity for this team to work together towards a goal, and to
experience the satisfaction that is derived from group success and travelling together to
participate. There will be over 100 schools competing in the Jump Jam Challenge
Nationals Competition from all over New Zealand.
-Miss Harris

HANSIN TRIP: Our group of students and parents travelling to Hansin Elementary
School in Seoul, Korea will be leaving on Saturday 5 September and returning on
Saturday 19 September. They will arrive in Auckland on Sunday 20 September.
My thanks to all who have assisted in the fundraising activities for this trip and your
support has been most appreciated.

SAUSAGE SIZZLE DAY: A reminder that tomorrow Friday 14 August is Sausage Sizzle
Day at Greenpark School to fundraise for our students travelling to Korea. Sausages
are $1.50 each and you can send the money to the class teacher today or tomorrow
morning.

LEADERSHIP DAY: This month our House Captains and Outstanding Citizens will
attend a Leadership Day at Summerhill located in the Papamoa Hills. The students
spend the day in the unique setting of a wool shed and a Mongolian Yurt. It is a
chance for these students to learn about the ‘Seven Habits’ and how they can
prepare themselves for success in the future.

KELLY SPORTS TERM THREE: Due to not enough numbers, Kelly Sports will not be
going ahead this term. They will send out another notice in Term 4 and if they can
get enough students they will proceed.

UNIFORM SALE: We are in the process of organising a uniform sale for the remaining
stock we have here at school. Watch out for an upcoming notice advertising the
sale…. coming soon.

TAURANGA FOODBANK ANNUAL APPEAL: Thank you to everyone that contributed
to the Tauranga Foodbank Schools Appeal last week. Greenpark School did a
fantastic job filling up 4 banana boxes to the brim with canned goods, health &
beauty products, cereals and so much more. When they came to collect the boxes
they said to pass on their biggest thank you to everyone and that all goods are most
gratefully received.

GENERAL HOUSEKEEPING

ABSENTEES: Please contact the school if your child is going to be absent for any reason.
You can do so by one of the following options:
1) Text Greenpark School on 027 817 6581.
2) Telephone Greenpark School on 541 0606 dial 1 and leave a voice mail message
3) Use the Greenpark School App and follow the instructions
Note: If you do not contact the school you will receive a text from us alerting you that your
child is absent. The number that will appear on your phone is a computer generated number
and is only available for you to reply to that message.
Please ensure you leave your child’s name, room number and the reason for their absence.

HOLIDAYS DURING TERM TIME: If you are going away on holiday during school term time,
you need to write a letter to the Principal including your child’s name, room number, where
they are going and the reason for their absence prior to their holiday.

MEDICATION AT SCHOOL: It is really important that parents/caregivers are aware that
children should not have any medication on them or in their school bags at school (this
includes Panadol, Antihistamine and Inhalers).
All medication must be signed into the school office, named and is locked up in a cupboard
or stored in the fridge in the school sickbay. Medication will be administered to children
either at a specific time or as required and will be entered on our medication record sheet.
This is very important as it is a health and safety requirement to ensure the safety of all
children at Greenpark School. If other children access medication that is not theirs or
children take too much of their own medication without it being correctly monitored it can
lead to serious consequences. Thank you for your assistance with this.

SIGNING CHILDREN IN AND OUT DURING THE DAY: If Parents/Caregivers need to remove
their children from school early; you MUST come in to the school office and complete the
sign out sheet at the time of collection. You will then be given an early release form that
needs to be handed to the classroom teacher when you collect the student. This can only be
done by a designated contact on our school database.
If you are bringing your child in later in the day you must come into the school office to be
marked on the roll. If you are signing them back in after taking them out earlier in the day –
place the time on the sign out sheet next to where you signed them out. This is important
for our records so that we know where children are at all times.
A reminder that removing your child from school should only be done where absolutely
necessary so as not to disrupt their learning time.

SCHOOL LUNCHES: School lunch orders are available for purchase for $3.50. There is a
selection of items to purchase. Correct money must be placed in an envelope with your
child’s name, room number and item ordered on the outside. Lunch menus can be found on
our school website http://www.greenparkschool.co.nz/lunch-menu or at the school office.
