Tom Pirrone is a Wharton Fellow - University of Pennsylvania's Master’s program for Executive Education. He is a seasoned business executive with
over 31 years experience in the aerospace and defense industries.
Prior to his new role at SSC, Tom was the VP of Business Development at Universal Space Network, Inc. (USN), a company he began as a part of a
team built personally by Apollo XII commander Pete Conrad. With astronaut Pete Conrad, Tom and the USN team set about in 1997 to change the way
satellite command and control is done at NASA and in the commercial industry.
Tom created PrioraNet, a worldwide network of satellite ground stations, formed by USN the Swedish Space Corporation (SSC) to pursue outsourced
communications. 16 years later, PrioraNet is now providing NASA with 60% of its commercial satellite command and control services supporting over 40
NASA on-orbit missions.
Universal Space Network, Inc (USN) became a wholly-owned subsidiary of SSC in 2009 and Tom continued to function as the USN VP of Business
Development and a member of the USN Senior Leadership Team. On 1 May 2013, Tom began his new position as the VP of Global Business
Development for SSC's Satellite Management Services. He is also a member of the SSC Global Leadership Team, directing the company's growth and
development strategies.
For 6 years prior to joining USN in 1997, Tom was the Executive VP and General Manager of GDP Space Systems, an engineering and manufacturing
firm specializing in custom communications products & systems for the space community. In this role, Tom and his team imagined, designed and
delivered well over 60 new products for specialized space communications applications. Prior to joining GDP, Tom was employed by the Aydin
Corporation in a variety of technical, sales and management positions.
