I hope you had a great year since we were last together. Thank you for volunteering and for your community spirit. With the kickoff party at Prime 93 behind us it is time to turn our attention to this year’s golf tournament. We have another outstanding field of players coming to Akron and several new events added to our tour that will expand our part of the world stage. New to the PGA TOUR and our tournament is a split the pot with charity or 50/50 raffle. There are three prize drawings beginning Friday (from Wednesday, Thursday and Friday sales), Saturday and Sunday. We will have stationary Kiosks as well as roving sellers. Since this is a new event, we have a limited number of shifts that still need to be filled to help sell tickets. If you’re interested, please ask your Executive Vice Chair, Glenda, or myself for details. In addition to the 50/50 drawings, there is an opportunity for volunteers and golf fans to sign up and win a foursome golf package at the Firestone South course. Finally and because Akron is the home of the All American Soap Box Derby, some of our professional golfers will be taking a ride down the hill, just for the thrill at Derby Downs. Lunch in the Volunteer Compound Tomorrow’s Menu (Wednesday) Italian Sausage Baked with Onion and Bell Pepper Individual Bags of Potato Chips Southwestern Tossed Salad Brownies Lunch will be served daily from 11:00am to 2:00pm in the Volunteer Compound. Your vouchers are also redeemable for a cheeseburger, chicken sandwich, or hot dog, bag of chips, whole fruit bar or candy bar, and a canned soft drink or bottled water at concession stands on the course (When they are open.) New for this year, your coupons are also valid for a garden salad or sandwich wrap and soft drink or bottled water, but there may be some limited availability. Buon Appetito. The Volunteer Lunch Shuttle runs daily from 10:45 – 2:15. Pick up is located behind the Tournament Office on Champions Way. Just look for the sign! It’s always so nice to see all the familiar faces and meet new ones at our “Family Reunion”. As you can see by the photos, a great time was certainly had by all! Mobile Device Policy Guidelines: What is a mobile device? A device that can send/receive calls A device that can send/receive data Acceptable usage at Bridgestone Invitational Device to be on silent at all times Calls may be placed or received only in Bridgestone Invitational approved “designated areas” Designated areas to be defined on Bridgestone Invitational course map Locations: Concession Stands, Spectator Village, Welcome Pavilion No Audio or Video is permitted at any time No still photography will be allowed Thursday-Sunday (Wednesday only) Data use will be permitted outside of designated areas (as long as spectator is being respectful to players) But not permitted as players are in position to compete Just a reminder, that we, as volunteers, must comply with and set the example following our new Mobile Device policy. Spectators hopefully will follow our lead. We also need your help - if you see anyone (Spectators or Volunteers) abusing this policy, please report the incident to our Mobile Device Committee headed up by Mike Hausch. The Mobile Device committee can be reached over the radio on the Mobile Device radio channel. Let’s Go Shopping! Susan G Komen Race for a Cure The South Course was in the pink Sunday as participants walked a one mile route in a ceremonial walk for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Northeast Ohio Pink on the Links fundraiser. This event was kick off to a regional Race for the Cure July 29, 2012. In addition to the walk, a survivor ceremony was held. Thank you to all of our volunteers who aided the participants during the walk.
