1982 by Jim Rua in an historic
brownstone on Grand Street, the
center of Albany’s once-thriving Italian
neighborhood. Soon after its debut,
Vinod Chhabra, food critic for the Albany Times Union, rated Cafe Capriccio
top on the list of the best restaurants
saying "this cozy little basement operation...is probably the most interesting
restaurant in Albany today." Capriccio
continues to maintain its unique reputation and is chosen year after year by
Capital-area media as Albany's Best Italian Restaurant. Food writer Byron Nilsson recently captured the Cafe's purpose and commitment when he titled
his review: "Timeless Excellence". With
its intimate booth seating, warm maple
paneling and 1930s Italian décor, the
Café continues to be one of the most

hef and proprietor since the Cafe's inception, Jim Rua, one of the Capital region's

of two popular cookbooks, Jim continues to explore old and new culinary resources through his
frequent travels and experiences in Italy which are
reflected in all aspects of Cafe Capriccio's menu
and ambiance.

Head Chef Franco Rua (Jim’s son) who has
brought his exceptional artistry to Capriccio’s
renowned kitchen. Franco and his talented staff continue to

The Chef's Table ~

not grow old at the table - (non si invecchia a tavola) with a visit to Café Capriccio’s popular Chef’s Table. The Chef's Table is an intimate, private dining room, with
open kitchen, available for groups of 10 to 14
who wish to enjoy a bounteous feast in the
setting of a refined Italian household. Extensive menu choices include a wide range of Italian regional cuisine prepared by Jim Rua and
his colleagues. Chef's Table functions are
popular occasions for business meetings, family gatherings, dinner among friends and all
special events where guests can gather around
a single table. The open kitchen provides an
excellent perspective for guests whose interests include the techniques of Italian cooking
as well as the enjoyment of it.
The Tuscan Room ~

afe Capriccio's Tuscan Room is an elegant Italian style dining environment
that can accommodate larger groups of
as many as 30 guests. With its own kitchen,
uniquely warm private and inviting setting, the
Tuscan Room is a perfect venue for dinner
meetings, receptions, holiday parties and family functions. All of the wonderful menu
choices from Italy's many regional cuisines are
available in the Tuscan Room, as they are at
the Chef's Table.
