W
elcome to VW ACTION - the longest running VW Show in
the world, has in one form or another been the true ‘Jewel
in the Crown’ of UK VW events. Last year’s ‘Superheroes
& Supervillains’ theme, complete with the ‘West End’ big budget
stage set that converted the marquee into ‘Metropolis/Gotham
City’ was embraced by all and the show received critical acclaim
from all who attended.
The 2014 event will see the ‘Weekend Of The Living Dead’ [isn’t
that ALWAYS the case with myself and Jensen? - BB] - with
Saturday evening’s stage dressed as ‘Jensen’s Cemetery’ as
‘Zombie Fright Night’ hits VW Action. Think ‘Zombies’, think
‘Werewolves’, think ‘Vampires’ or even think ‘Frankenstein’s
Monster’ - or any other scary dude or dudette - with ‘The King Of
The Zombies’ Jensen D Groover’s Disco, Dance and Indie
Anthems and the Narni Shakers as sexy Zombie Ladies, as well
as live rock music from VW Action favourites ‘From The Ashes’
and with alternative music from ‘The Lazzy Band’ in the Fuellers
Bar - Saturday night at Action will have something for everyone.
There is more information on the entertainment page opposite
including details of other top live bands and DJs or Friday and
Saturday night - and our Sunday acoustic band ‘3 Chix And A
Guitar’. We hope to see many ‘Scary Monsters’ in attendance and if previous years are anything to go by, we know you won’t
disappoint us. Please note: ‘Faced Crusaders’ will be on site in
the trade area - on hand to do ‘scary’ face make-up for a small
fee. Maybe pay them a visit and get into the spirit - remember,
we’re all back at work next week - let’s enjoy this weekend!! From
our point of view, we will do all in our power to continue the great
tradition of VW Action delivering the absolute best event for the
true VW enthusiast.
VW Action is a show to which people are happy to bring their
young family members, and yet which provides full on
entertainment for all of its visitors, whatever their age or interests
and above anything else, VW Action is about the cars. Action is
one of the few shows which is truly about everything Volkswagen,
and the event welcomes the arrival of every VAG vehicle with
equal enthusiasm. Early and late Vans and Buses, ‘Old’ and New
Beetles, Ghias, Type 3s and 4s, Golfs, Polos, and every other
representative of the water cooled range, street cars, show cars
and race cars - VW Action really is the best place for a true VW
enthusiast.
Every year we hear from people who have brought ‘non VW
enthusiast’ friends as new visitors, who have been instantly
converted to the cause. The fact that they are
so readily accepted by everyone is testament
to just how friendly and inclusive the VW
community is. VW Action is as much about
the friendliness and hospitality of other showgoers as the quality of the show itself and
can be a weekend camped amongst likeminded enthusiasts, sitting, chilling, and
meeting new friends, or a fully involved,
participative fun fest!

FRIDAY NIGHT IN THE MAIN MARQUEE
We have not one, no two - but THREE of the most
popular Dance/D&B acts to play VW Action in the
last several years - Ivan McCutcheon, Jazz T and
Niki Dimensions along with The Narni Shakers.
All three with eclectic, diverse, but always crowdpleasing sets, ranging from Old Skool House to
cutting edge Drum N Bass. Ivan is best known as
the editor of Volksworld Magazine, but his record
collection and DJ career cover the whole history of
dance music. Ivan will be storming the decks followed swiftly by Jazz T.
Fresh from Ibiza, Jazz T was the 1999 UK ITF
Advancement champion and has played to capacity
crowds all over the world from China to Australia to
Hawaii and back again. Jazz has spun such
prestigious venues as Fabric, XOYO, Kentish Town
Forum, Matter, The O2 Arena, The Melkweg in
Amterdam, The Garage, Jamm, Plan B, The End, The
HiFi Club, Boombap Festival, Lovebox, The Big Chill,
Glastonbury, Notting Hill Carnival, Hooternanny,
Outlook Festival and many more.Spinning a mixture
of Hip Hop, Funk and Breaks, Jazz is known for his
dope party sets incorporating his ill turntablist skills
very subtly in the mix! He is also the EOW resident
DJ with DJ Snuff.
VW enthusiast Niki Dimensions absolutely stormed
last year’s VW Action - so we invited him back.
Through most of the nineties he played at Labrynth,
One Nation, Best of British (Jungle Raves) and
Raindance and partied every summer in Ibiza. His
mission statement in life... “All I wanna do is make
people dance.’’ Let’s not disappoint him Main Stage/Marquee, from 8.00pm Friday Night.

SATURDAY NIGHT IN THE MAIN MARQUEE
VW Action ‘Zombie Fright Night’ Theme Party
For years now one of the most anticipated elements
of VW Action has been the Saturday night ‘theme
party’. The level of participation in the fancy dress
has been mindblowing. 2013 was particularly
impressive as the marquee filled up with Supermen,
Jokers, Wonder Women, Hulks, Poison Ivies,
Batmen, X-Men and Supergirls. Once again we’ve
dressed the stage like a full-on West End Musical transforming it into ‘Jensen’s Cemetary’ complete
with giant props - and we’re hoping that you go the
extra mile with your costumes too. On past
experience it’s certain most visitors will.
FROM THE ASHES
The party kicks off with a special ‘Rock, Pop &
Soul Anthems’ set from DJ Bri Vinyl. He is
followed by VW Action Favourites ‘From The
Ashes’. Rock Heroes of 2013 and always a crowd
pleaser, if you like rock and indie anthems - you’ll
love ‘From The Ashes’.
Saturday evening finishes with Jensen D Groover
as ‘The Zombie King’ - along with The Narni
Shakers as sexy zombie chicks. Be sure to check
out his ‘Anthems’ set - and as always - expect
the unexpected!

In keeping with the VW Action 2014 theme for
Saturday evening, starting at 00.15am in the
Fuellers Bar is Simon Pegg’s cult film classic.You’ll
need to bring your sleeping bag or a blanket, and
in the tradition of previous ‘sleepovers’, we’ll
provide some free popcorn and soda.

Slim47 are a great indie-rock covers band and play
anthemic hits from bands like the Foo Fighters, Red
Hot Chilli Peppers, Oasis, Queens Of The Stone Age,
Stereophonics and the Killers, to name but a few.The
band have built a reputation as being one of the UK’s
best cover bands, with their full-on set consisting of
the biggest indie-rock hits from the past two decades,
coupled with their brash confidence in front of any
size crowd. They always deliver!
THE LAZZY BAND (Saturday Evening 10.30pm)
VW enthusiasts, hailing from Liverpool, the boys
know how to raise the roof - playing their own
versions of songs and anthems made famous by
the likes of Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Rolling
Stones and Dr Feelgood. Add in a sprinkling of
Ziggy’s stardust and VW Action rock fans are in for
a real treat. Catch them now and tell everyone
you saw them BEFORE they were massive.

CONCOURS COMPETITIONS
FEATURING ‘EUROPE’S MOST
BEAUTIFUL VW’
VW Action has always been at the forefront of Show
& Shine/Concours events. For many years Action
has been a leader, not a follower. A few years ago,
the show broke with the tradition of a class based
structure, for one simple, very good reason. Too
many great cars were leaving without a trophy,
especially in the most hotly contested classes. The
‘Top Twenty’ format at Action has now been taken
up by many other shows, as it is the means by
which the greatest number of deserving cars are
rewarded with a trophy.
The scale of the VW Action Show & Shine however,
means that there are separate ‘top ten’ prizewinners
for Custom Air Cooled and Water Cooled cars and
‘top fives’ for Stock/Standard. The Show & Shine
Concours takes place on Sunday, with Saturday
being reserved for the ‘EDV’ (Every Day Vehicle), a
trailer queen free zone, exclusively for cars which
see regular use on the road. None of the show car
competitions at VW Action have an entry charge,
so if your car attracts admiring glances, be sure to
enter in the appropriate free Show & Shine
competition.
EVERYDAY VEHICLE CONCOURS
Saturday Morning Assembly - 2.45pm return
to Main Marquee for Trophy Presentation
The number and quality of entrants has increased
over the years to the point that we have had to
increase the number of trophies to 20, offering 10
for WATERCOOLED vehicles and 10 for AIRCOOLED.
Our judges recognise the different considerations
involved in ‘daily drivers’. If your vehicle is your
everyday transport then it’s not expected to be
flawless, so don’t be shy. In this competition
especially, cars that are genuinely ‘dailies’ often win
out over cars that are immaculate but are
questionably in ‘frequent’ use. We would not
discourage anyone from taking part, but please, if
you don’t win anything try again on Sunday. Entry in
this event is a MUST if you are proud of your VW.
CONCOURS D’ELEGANCE/
SHOW & SHINE
‘Best Of Show’ for each of the four categories. Please
be assured we take the Show & Shine very seriously
at VW Action and this format has been arrived at
over many hours’ deliberation, by judges whose only
concern is to see that the most deserving vehicles
are rewarded with a trophy. There are also trophies
for Best Paint, Best Interior, Best Engineering, etc.

deal with levelling the playing
field in respect of older or
rarer vehicles. The Judges for
each of the four categories
will select ten vehicles
in each of the Custom classes
and five in the Standard
classes.These thirty vehicles
will be considered by all
judges, to establish a
VW Action 16 and under Show & Shine
Sunday only - the VW Action Show & Shine will
include a display of ‘vehicles’ owned by 16s and
under - VW owners of the future. Vehicles entered
for this class can be bikes, pedal cars, scoots, carts
such as radio flyers, tot rods - in fact any wheeled
‘transport’. We have been highly encouraged by the
numbers and quality in the last few years and hope
to see even greater numbers this year. This is a
great opportunity for the younger enthusiast to be
actively involved. Trophies will be awarded for
‘Winner’ and ‘Runner-Up’. Please bring your ‘ride’
to the Show & Shine Arena by midday Sunday there is no display of this class on Saturday. This
means that you have all of Saturday to perhaps
arrange for some pinstriping detail, courtesy of our
resident stripers and polish and clean your ‘rides’.
Potential Exhibitors/Parents please note entry is ‘on
the day’. Entry forms, which will be supplied in
the Show & Shine arena by the marshalls, must be
fully completed and attached to the vehicle.
EUROPE’S MOST BEAUTIFUL VW

Having been reintroduced in 2007, after many years
absence, the ‘Europe’s Most Beautiful VW’ Trophy
is to be contested again for 2014. All of the trophy’s
previous winners have been truly outstanding
vehicles and we hope this trend continues.

(Inter-Club Games) – 2.00pm Saturday
Comedy moments
seem to fill the club games from beginning to end.
The games will be contested between the first 8
registered teams or clubs, and each member of every
team will receive a medal at the conclusion of the
games. All disciplines take place at 2.00pm on
Saturday, so please register your team at the
Information Centre before this time and be at the
‘Olympics/Club Games Arena’ for 1.45pm on Saturday.

score - it’s easier than it looks though.
OBSTACLE COURSE
A big inflatable obstacle to clamber over against
the clock... all five of you. You will fall off, and
people will laugh.
TUG-O-WAR
Five in each team... a big rope... lots of falling
over... people will laugh... just go with it!
The Cycle Show & Shine, is open to anyone (all
ages) wishing to display their lowrider bikes, beach
cruisers, or choppers (including derivatives). Since
a number of people use two wheels to cruise the
event venue, we have decided that in recognition
of the ingenuity and engineering skills on display,
we’d like to assemble the best examples in one
place. Two trophies - ‘Runner-Up’ and ‘Best Of Show’
- with the ‘Best Of Show’ winning the ‘Snob’ Cruiser
too. There will be a preview lineup of bikes on
Saturday in front of the Main Marquee. The lineup
will be reassembling on Sunday and judging will
ONLY take place on the Sunday.
BUG PUSH
As is customary, teams of 5 are required to push
the Brad’s ‘Raffle’ Car over a timed distance.

VW ACTION AUTOJUMBLE
If you are wishing to take part it is simply a matter
of occupying the next available autojumble space,
no registration, and no charge as long as you are a
genuinely private seller. Any vehicles should be
behind your marked plot, please do not take up the
space beside your plot with a vehicle. If you are
browsing, make sure that you are there early each
day for the best bargains. The purpose of the
autojumble is the sale of garage clearout/surplus
items, not trade sellers, who at our discretion will
be asked to pay a surcharged trade stand rate or
be asked to leave the autojumble area.
VW ACTION CARS FOR SALE AREA
VW Action is the perfect event to buy or sell your
car with a very full ‘Cars For Sale’ area every year.
Sellers - This you DO pay for, but it’s just a fiver for
all weekend and that £5 goes to Brad’s Cancer
Foundation. So please come to the Information
Office, (see map below for location) purchase a
‘Cars for Sale’ voucher, place it in your windscreen,
and park up in the designated cars for sale area.

A bit of effort and ingenuity and any club could be
leaving the show with the ‘Best Club Display’
trophy on Sunday. So, please make the effort, join
in, win the trophy! This will also apply to any special
‘register’ displays - for example, we always see a
large turnout of Type 3s each year. We would like
to see all clubs attending doing a bit more than just
coralling their cars and tents. Promote your club by
putting on your own display with your best cars in
the Show & Shine area. It is also really important to
us that you enjoy the privileged camping area laid
out just for your club. To ensure that we can get the
traditional VW Action ambience in the club area,
please please try to be accurate with your vehicle
numbers when you book. There’s nothing worse than
being crammed into a plot with no room to swing
a cat, next to a club with a quarter of an acre and
just 4 vehicles.

We are expecting all the clubs represented at VW
Action to be proud enough to put on a good show
in their allotted area. Sure there are plenty of clubs
booking camping areas, but a decent line up of cars
and a bit of a theme going on is what we have given
over CLUB DISPLAY space for. The display spaces
will be alongside the Show & Shine in the main

GUIDELINES & REGULATIONS FOR
A SAFE AND ENJOYABLE WEEKEND
1. Ten mph on site please, anyone ‘speeding’ or driving
in a dangerous manner will be evicted. No warning,
no refund, no messing.
2. No bonfires/camp fires but barbies are OK as long as
they’re raised off the ground.
3. Noise curfew is at midnight. Any unauthorised sound
systems will be confiscated - we’re not being Nazis VW Action is a family event - please respect your
neighbours and let them get some sleep.
4. Help us to keep the site clean and tidy, please use the
bins and rubbish bags handed to you upon arrival.
VW Action Information Centre has more if required.
5. Stay out of restricted areas. Please observe signage.
6. No driving on site (apart from arrival). No parking on
the roadways. All exits and access points must be
kept clear.
7. Please keep valuables locked in your car or on your
person. Sadly, large events attract scumbags too.
8. Medical assistance can be found in the area adjacent
to the VW Action Information Centre.
9. No ‘unauthorised’ trading on site.
10. No glass bottles, fireworks or pets on site please.
11. No mopeds, go-peds, monkey bikes, or similar to be
used on site.
12. Security are your friends - but they can’t be
everywhere. If you see something suspicious or
someone causing upset, please tell Security. Better
to deal with things immediately than moaning on an
internet forum three days later.

The Campervan Cookoff at VW Action 2013, saw
Michelle Edwards & Darren Knight taking the
‘Campervan Masterchef’ title. The marquee was
pretty packed, and the VW Action Cookoff was a
huge success, enjoyed by all, but particularly by
the Judges. It is a ‘Ready, Steady, Cook’ style
competition, where contestants have to cook up a
gourmet meal in their campers, with all contestants
being provided with the same ingredients for a
maximum of 4 competitors/teams. To take part this
year, you will need to have registered at the VW
Action Information Office before entries close on
Sunday at 11.00am. You will of course need your
own Campervan with cooking facilities. Please
remember to have plenty of cooking gas.
‘NEFARIOUS’ PINSTRIPING
SEMINARS
The hugely popular pinstriping workshop/seminars
are presented by Simon ‘Nefarious’ Pollock. He will
work on pretty much anything you bring to him iPhones, glovebox lids, Gameboys, travel mugs...
Alternatively of course, you could pay real close
attention during the seminars, which would give
you a jump on becoming the next Kenneth ‘Von
Dutch’ Howard. Please check the timetable for
seminar timings.
VW ACTION CHILDREN’S VWORLD
KEEPING THE LITTLE ONES AMUSED
We’ve got kids. We know what it’s like. So just
for you we have FREE activities for children in
VW Action’s ‘Children’s VWorld’. This is NOT a
creche - YOU are responsible for your children.
We have laid on a colouring competition, TV/
video, a (free to you) Facepainter, a (free to you)
Bouncy Castle and some other stuff!! Just find
the Children’s VWorld area (near the VW Action
Information Centre, check programme map for
details) and set them to play. Check the timetable
for times of Facepainter etc. and don’t forget to
check out Party Workshops, Kids’ Show & Shine
and Bike Show & Shine.

For many visitors - the highlight of the weekend the ‘Action Auction’ has been an institution at the
show for many years, and we are pleased that a
number of other shows now include charity auctions,
benefiting various worthwhile causes. The original
VW Action Auction is made possible largely by the
generosity of traders at the show, who provide items
free, and therefore every penny raised by the auction
goes directly to Brad’s Cancer Foundation. It is a
great place to get a bargain, and at the same time
help a good cause. If any individuals or clubs have
items to offer for auction they would also be gratefully
received at the VW Action Information Office.
CUSTOMISE YOUR PASSION
In aid of Brad’s Cancer Foundation
The VW Action Charity Auctions on behalf of Brad’s
Cancer Foundation always receive a massive
response from those who donate ‘lots’ and from
those who bid on them. The auctions have also
inspired many to get involved and create unique lots
for the auction. In 2008 several companies and
individuals customised toilet seats to be auctioned.
2009 saw some superbly customised toolboxes, and
in 2010 a customised cushion raised £500!!?!! For
2014 we are asking donors to create any unique item.
We would like the donated item to reflect you and
your interests, as well as to appeal to the VW Action
buying public. Perhaps with a ‘Zombie’ theme?
The idea is for you to take a basic item and customise,
design, paint, stripe, encrust in diamonds, or
whatever other creative concept appeals to you.
Concept wise, the only limit is your imagination.
Please bring your masterpiece to the show, and hand
it in to the VW Action Information Centre when you
arrive. It’s for a great cause, so, please go for it!
The Fun Fair is NOT free. Prices for different rides
vary. Fun for kids of ALL ages.
FUN BOX PARTY WORKSHOPS

VW Action truly lives up to its name, with a large
field of extremely quick race and street VWs.
This year VW Action is expecting to see the Cal
Look, Pro Street and full-on Race VWs of JG54
Greenhearts, SAS Rennwagens, Aircooled
Eliminators and the VWDRC join the quickest VWs
from mainland Europe during the Night Racing
session and throughout Saturday and Sunday. The
VW Bus fraternity will be represented by BWA, USB
and TORQ. The Night Racing session also features
a prize fund of at least £1500 to be split amongst
the QUICKEST 10 CARS and QUICKEST 5 BUSES
in this session.

FUN FAIR
FREE all day family entertainment. Try your hand
at juggling or on the 10ft tightwire. Have a game of crazy golf
or tennis or go hopping mad on

After years of trying, we have managed to ‘buy’
the track for the weekend - basically we have to
make up any shortfall that the regular RWYB
would have earned Santa Pod. This is costing a
fair chunk - so, please sign on and run your car we really need your support here guys.
Throughout Saturday and Sunday you will be
able to test and tune your own car on the
dragstrip, just remember to bring your driving
licence. (There is an additional ‘signing on’ fee to
take part in this activity.)
Also look out for the sessions involving the Super
charged Outlaws, the ‘Wacky Racers’ of drag racing,
with Supercharged Nitro and Alcohol burning Rails,
Slingshots, Coupes, Sedans and even pick ups.
Look out too for the Classic Ford boys and girls,
The Gasser Circus, Outlaw Street and UK Top
Sportsman who should all be out in force. Add to
all this, the Fireforce Jet Car and there really is
something for everyone on the track at VW Action.
PODZILLA MONSTER TRUCK SHOW
Podzilla will be crushing everything in its path on
both Saturday and Sunday, to give a few ‘tired’
saloon cars a fitting end. It is a show absolutely
not to be missed. (No VWs will be harmed in the
presentation of this spectacle.) For the
technophiles, The Podzilla Monster Truck is a
Chevrolet CK1500 body, powered by a methanol
guzzling supercharged 502 cubic inch (8.2 litre)
Chevrolet V8 developing 1350 horsepower. He
weighs in at around 10,000 pounds.

BRAD’S ‘ZOMBIE SKULL’ COCONUT SHY
FIREFORCE JET CAR
The awesome ‘Fireforce 3 Jet Funny Car’, clocked
a 5.793 second run at 336.10mph when setting
the world record. And if anyone is going to better
those numbers it will probably be the Fireforce
team themselves. Could it be at VW Action 2014?
Check it out racing in the dark as part of
Saturday’s Night Racing session and Sunday at
12.45pm.
In 2009 many people bade farewell to the ‘Chop Shop Gangster
Car’ in their own way, ‘giving it a whack for Brads’, which helped
the show raise a substantial sum for the charity and 2010 saw
‘Brad’s Buckaroo’ raise more money as folk tried to stack the
most boxes on the roofrack of a Bug (along the lines of the MB
Games Buckaroo game.) In 2011 we had a ‘Pirate Treasure Hunt’
and for 2012 NAS Events supplied/donated a ‘Grease’ Peep-Thru’
Photo Board which was a major success. We continued in a
similar vein for 2013 with the Superman and Wonder Woman
Peep-Thru’ Photo Boards. For 2014, VW Action have provided a
‘Zombie Skull’ Coconut Shy. Just a £1 donation for 10 balls and
knock down all the (9) skulls to win a prize - every pound
donated goes to Brad’s Cancer Foundation.

VW ACTION OSCARS
VW ACTION HALL OF FAME
At VW Action’s 30th Birthday Party in 2005, there was a ‘Mini Oscars’ ceremony to recognise those
who have contributed to the VW Subculture. Each year at VW Action we plan to induct further ‘faces’
into the VW ACTION HALL OF FAME. VW Action 2013 saw yet more ‘movers and shakers’ rewarded.
OFF-ROAD ACTION
The off-road course has now moved from its
previous location to the ‘pit’ side of the dragstrip.
The area will be operating when marshalled by
members of the BAJACLUB.CO.UK during the
daytime, and will be available for public use, but
only in suitably constructed vehicles, bajas,
buggies, rails etc and VW-only. Driving Licence
and signature on a disclaimer will be required.
This will take the form of single cars performing time
trials with trophies for the quickest in each class.

This has been a resounding success at recent VW
Action shows. Open to anyone to come along and
experience the excitement of Drag Racing only in
miniature (1/10th scale to be precise), from all ages
and skill levels.
Signing on will be from 10.00am Saturday only
- with racing commencing from 11.00am. The
track will be set up in the Monster Truck Arena.
