Norway Finland Luxembourg Canada USA Irland Netherlands Czech Republic Switzerland Kuwait Great Britain Portugal France Slovenia Australia 2 First Round on target The basic feature of the PROTECTOR’s aim and fire function is Detached Line of Sight (DLOS). It enables the gunner to keep his sights on target, independent of ballistic solution for the weapon/ ammunition in use. Detached Line of Sight allows up to 45 degrees field of view while observing, and more than 30 times optical magnified close-up view of the target area when aiming. PROTECTOR with it’s DLOS is the ultimate solution for accurate operation of 40 mm Automatic Grenade Launcher (AGL). PROTECTOR’s DLOS enables the gunner to get first round on target, regardless of it’s speed and distance. Crew Protection The battle proven PROTECTOR Remote Weapon Station is developed to protect military personell in armored vehicles. Weapons and sensors are mounted on the outside, while the operator remotely controls the system from a protected position inside the vehicle. PROTECTOR has been in full-scale production since December 2001, and is qualified for global operations. PROTECTOR has been tested in the toughest war zones, and has rapidly become the world leader of Remote Weapon Stations. unprecedented Operational Readiness Rate (ORR) of more than 99%. KONGSBERG has extensive experience in logistic support and personell training. PROTECTOR is a mature front-end product based on experience from more than 9 million hours in combat, and 19 million hours of operation with proven 3 - when experience counts Platform Flexibility PROTECTOR can be mounted on all types of platforms. PROTECTOR has integrated sensors for target observation, as well as advanced ballistic calculations and digital image processing. Piranha 4 PROTECTOR is lightweight, easy to integrate and does not require any reduction in a vehicle’s armor, offering great flexibility for customer-specific modifications. ASLAV II PROTECTOR is already in service on Stryker, Piranha I/II/III , ASLAV II, M113, Alvis Tactica (4x4), Pandur (8x8), HMMWV, RG31, RG33, M1A2 Abrams, IVECO (4x4), Bushmaster, AMV (8x8) and VAB. RG 31 Qualified for Global Operations In August 2007 KONGSBERG was awarded the prestigious contract for CROWS II (Commonly Remotely Operated Weapon Station) by the US Army. CROWS is a joint acquisition program for weapon stations for the US Army’s vehicle programs. - based on the successful M151 PROTECTOR is fully qualified, and complies with the extensive requirements of it’s customers. The qualification has included testing of PROTECTOR for operations in extreme environmental conditions. Operational Capability PROTECTOR is equipped with zoomable CCD camera, IR camera and laser range finder. PROTECTOR provides the gunner the best possible opportunity to engage targets under all visibility and mission situations. 5 – optimized for low recoil weapons Product Diversity KONGSBERG is providing five different PROTECTOR Remote Weapon Stations; M151, CROWS, NM221, PROTECTOR Lite and Sea PROTECTOR. 6 Launched in 2006, PROTECTOR Lite is well suited for smaller vehicles and trucks armed with low recoil weapons. PROTECTOR Lite is in service with the US Army and has been in combat operations since 2007. It has proven to be as accurate and reliable as the rest of the PROTECTOR family of Remote Weapon Stations. – the navalized version of M151 PROTECTOR Sea PROTECTOR is based on the mature and in active service M151 PROTECTOR and has been modified to endure the naval environment. Sea PROTECTOR provides the unique operational capabilities to counter asymmetric threats and enhances overall ship protection in the face of terrorism. Sea PROTECTOR provides exceptional capabilities for harbor defense and is well suited for naval ships and patrol craft of all types and classes. Multiple weapon stations can be networked and operated from the Combat- and Bridge Systems. Precision kill capabilities inherent n the systems help conserve ammunition and limit the risk of inflicting collateral damage. All this while own crew remains safe and unexposed to hostile fire. 7 Training is the key element in any skill-based job. Educational research concludes that people learn better by experience than through reading or lectures. It is impossible to replace real experience from combat operations with simulated training, but simulators can in a cost effective way increase soldier-skills to be mission ready faster. - when skills mean the difference between life and death Training also has an important role in maintaining skills on the achieved level. Another important factor of training is that it allows soldiers to prepare for scenarios where the automatic reaction is crucial. With the possibility to customize scenarios for specific missions, soldiers can practise on similar situations like the once faced in combat operations. The PROTECTOR Training System allows the gunner to practise for the moments when their decisions mean the difference between life and death. Multiple weapon stations – one training system 8 A track record to be proud of In war, performance is everything. A track record of reliability is probably one of the most important criteria for your choice of weapon system. PROTECTOR is a 4thgeneration system qualified for global operations and tested under some of the toughest battlefield conditions to date. When it comes to performance in the field, PROTECTOR is simply the best option available. Battles are inevitably fought in the most extreme conditions; whether climatic or geographic, natural or man-made. Whatever the battle space may be, your weapon system must be ready to meet any eventuality. Facing these challenges requires reliable and effective weaponry, suitable for different and varied tasks. PROTECTOR’s highly adaptable integrated configuration fulfils the extensive requirements for military action wherever the mission takes place. 9 f r o s t & s u ll i va n 2008 B E S T P R A C T I C E S A W A R D In 2008 KONGSBERG proudly accepted the European Turret Mounted Weapons Product of the Year Award from Frost & Sullivan.
