The roles of Tekes and Finep
– Tekes – Finnish Funding Agency for Innovation
– publicly funded expert organization for financing research,
development and innovation in Finland. We boost wide-ranging
innovation activities in research communities, industry and
service sectors
– Finep – The Financiadora de Estudos e Projetos
(Brazilian Innovation Agency )
– organization of the Brazilian federal government under the
Ministry of Science of Technology, devoted to funding of science
and technology in the country

– Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) 13.3.2013
– objective: promote co operation projects between Brazilian and
Finnish companies
– Implementing Agreement for Joint Call Co operation
Principles for Co-financing 8.8.2014
– valid until 31.12.2016, several calls
– establish procedures and criteria for the co-financing of
technological development and innovation projects
– Promoting cooperative R&D and innovation projects between
Finnish and Brazilian companies
– Scope: risky joint projects that create new know-how and
innovations

Joint Calls : Procedure (1/2)
– All technological areas are covered
– special interests: utilization of waste, energy conservation and
energy efficiency, bioeconomy solutions, bioenergy for
industry, shipping industry.
– Partners
– at least one Brazilian and one Finnish company
– may involve more than one company from each side
– academic and research entities: eligible only as sub-contractors
– must have IPR agreement
– one side only application is not valid.only.

Joint Calls : Procedure (2/2)
– Calls will be implemented in two phases
– First phase: presentation of the project to the applicant’s
respective Agency
– evaluation of the innovativeness, methodology, resources,
requested funding and the impact of the results
– if eligible => Final phase
– Final phase: partners present their proposal for funding to the
respective Agency
– evaluation of the projects according to the criteria of each
Agency (operational policies, National Laws and
Regulations)
– If eligible => financing
