Now that we are into winter and families are purchasing
new clothes for relatives, please ensure all new clothing
is labelled. We have a clothes labelling service at
Weeroona for a small fee. If you require this service
please see Jane or Narelle at the front office.
The final stage of refurbishment has commenced in
Waratah. All families affected by room changes have
been and will be informed as required. I would like to
thank everyone for their patience. There is short term
inconvenience for long term gain. The refurbishment will
be a great benefit to all.

Any families with queries in regards to the
renovations, please contact Bronwyn during
office hours.
All families will need to make sure that
residents have only the current seasonal
clothing at Weeroona to ensure belongings will
fit into the new wardrobes.
Until next month, keep on smiling

MONTH IN REVIEW
Our month has been very busy once again. We had our NAIDOC celebrations early
due to the dates coinciding with the school holidays and we wouldn't have had the
beautiful company of so many students and teachers.
Renovations are completed on the Grevillea and Banksia wings including the foyer
area. There have been many Tradies around this month ensuring the work was
completed prior to our accreditation.
We have had our accreditation and of course we passed with flying colours (lucky
they liked my boots!).
We have purchased iPad’s for each wing. Now its
time for Sue to bring me into the new millennium
(lol). Hope she has lots of patience. Nell is already
tech savvy so it is such a marvellous tool. We hope
the residents enjoy the technology also.
This month we had bus trips to the Rose Gardens and Wyangala. Our bus trips are
always a highlight for those who are able to attend and we always have a
wonderful time in the great outdoors.
Thanks to the choir who join us 2nd monthly. They are a delight to listen to.
Until next month,
Stay classy

LADIES LUNCHEON OUTING
On Wednesday 3 June a number of our ladies participated in a bus trip to the Rose Gardens
Coffee House for lunch.
The ladies enjoyed a generous size meal of a melt, chips and salad with their cappuccino or tea.
Once again the staff at the coffee house couldn’t do enough for our ladies. The residents had an
enjoyable relaxing lunch in a very relaxing atmosphere before returning home to Weeroona.
3
WYANGALA COUNTRY CLUB
On 17 June some of our residents went on a bus trip to Wyangala. It was a wonderful trip with the
residents commenting how beautiful the country side looks at this time of year.
The trip took us over the new road which is very windy.
The Country Club was good enough to open especially for us that day. We were served a choice of fish,
chips and salad or chicken schnitzel and vegetables and tea or coffee.
Thanks very much to Mary for the wonderful meal. Thanks to Jack for arranging to open the club
especially for us. We all felt very privileged having the whole club to ourselves. We shall definitely be
returning to Wyangala and we were grateful for the return invite.
Also many thanks to the Cowra Bus Service for their prompt response to our distress call in providing a
rescue bus.
All was resolved and we were back on our way after a little bit of hydraulics trouble which added to the
interest of the trip.

NAIDOC CELEBRATIONS
On 18 June we celebrated a Koori Day with the pre-schoolers from Yalbillinga
coming to perform songs, dances and stories about their cultural heritage. We
were all delighted to be entertained by such lovely children. It was nice to see 6
teachers accompanying them.
A big thanks to Yalbillinga Preschool for the wonderful excursion. We hope you
enjoyed it as much as we did.
5
GET RED FOR RED NOSE DAY
On Friday 26 June 2015 Weeroona held Red Nose Day to
help raise funds for a worthwhile cause. It was good to
see many staff members dress in red and support the
cause. Thank you to everyone for your generous
donations.
PAY IT FORWARD
A big thanks to the boys from St Raphael’s school who
paid us a visit, and as a gesture of thoughtfulness, brought
gifts of chocolates and handkerchiefs for some of the
residents. It was lovely to see them chatting and handing
out the gifts, which were greatly appreciated by the
residents. Thanks also to the parents who brought the
boys.
LATE MAIL
Nell, her daughter in law Allena and Granddaughter Bella came for a visit.
Allena cooked a Pilipino dish Bihon (noodles, cabbage, pork & carrot. Nell gave
each resident a taste of this beautiful dish. The residents really enjoyed this.
Nell’s daughter in law is going to teach her to cook it for us. Nell is called
“Lola” and David (Nell's husband) Lolo”. They also brought in the National
Dress for the Philippines. Very colourful and stunning. They showed us lots of
wooden artefacts and explained what and where they are made.

VOLUNTEER PROFILE
ANGELA GILLARD
My name is Angela Gillard and I have been volunteering at Weeroona for about 2 1/2 years.
My husband, two children and I moved to Cowra 10 years ago from Engadine in Sydney,
however, I was born in Orange and lived my first 21 years at Forest Reefs.
I worked as a teacher’s aide for the first 7 years in Cowra, and when that job came to an end I
wanted something to do to serve the community.
I come in on Tuesday mornings for about 11/2 hours, doing a variety of activities such as hand and
feet massages, helping to decorate the halls for special holidays, helping with the Melbourne Cup
Sweeps and visiting with the residents.
I have met some lovely and fascinating people since being here and coming to Weeroona is one
of the highlights in my week and I will continue to come as long as circumstances permit (and if
you’ll have me!)

PRAISE AND COMPLAINTS
BY
RESIDENTS OR THEIR RELATIVES
At Weeroona Aged Care Residence, we aim to provide the highest quality of
care to our residents. To assist us to continually improve our service, we
welcome feedback and suggestions for improvement for residents and their
relatives.
Praise and concerns can be informal or formal, and anonymous if that is your
desire.
Most issues can be dealt with informally. If you have an issue please ask to
speak to the person in charge of the wing. The issue may easily be dealt with in
a simple conversation.
Weeroona has a Praise and Complaint Form that is available, providing a more
formal method of offering praise or concern. There is an option of remaining
anonymous however it is difficult to give feedback if we do not know who is
raising the concern.
Once a Praise and Complaint Form has been completed, it can be placed in a
privacy envelope and placed in the suggestion box in the foyer or posted to
Weeroona.
The Director of Nursing (DON) or their delegate review all the forms, investigate
the cause of the concern, with a focus on whether Weeroona’s Policy and
Procedure are contributing factors and takes appropriate action to rectify any
issues. Feedback is then available to the complainant (if not anonymous).
