THE BOYS’ BRIGADE FOUNDERS DAY SERVICE On October 27th, 2013 at 2:30pm there will be a Boys’ Brigade Founders Day service at Burlington East Presbyterian Church. All members of our congregation are welcome to join us for this 130th Anniversary Service of the Boys’ Brigade. Please contact George Rodgerson, Stephen Shields, and Denis Hird for more information. SUNDAY DRIVERS NEEDED Recently we have received calls from members of the community, as well as some of our own, in need of a ride to Church. We are in the process of putting together a list of people within our congregation who would be willing to be on the “On call for a Ride List”. The requests for a ride would be processed through the office and a ride arranged from the List of Volunteers. There would be some limitations on ride request, such as – the call should come in to the office by Friday, (perhaps 10:00 o’clock) and the match would be completed according to our list, made up of your names as volunteer drivers. This does not mean it would be every Sunday, but would be on some sort of rotation, dependent upon the number of volunteers available. This project would come under the Umbrella of the Pastoral Committee, so please call Beryl at home or the office here and speak with Rinatha with any questions or to leave your name. We would like to expand this service to include rides to our Church for any special event, not just Sundays. Sooo, the lineup for being the first to sign up will be by the Piano, today, after the service. Thanks for the anticipated positive response to this request. BEPC FINANCIAL UPDATE January and September Envelope Givings Presbyterian Sharing Total Income Total Expenses Surplus / Deficit YTD Budget $109,972 $8,625 $127,696 $127,385 $311 YTD Actual $100,071 $9,069 $126,474 $134,627 -$8,153 August Budget $12,219 $958 $14,188 $14,021 $167 August Actual $11,613 $1,035 $14,736 $11,819 $2,917 NOTE: RED numbers reflect results that are below budget The chart above provides both the year-to-date and monthof-September financial results. As reflected above, September and year-to-date envelope givings are below budget. Expenses are tracking higher than budget for a net result of a year-to-date deficit of $8,153. One item outstanding to reduce the deficit amount to $6,797.22 requires congregation’s approval of $1,365.00 for roof repair expenses to be expensed from the Heritage Fund. The Pulpit Supply credit of $2,625 was received and is included in September’s results. We look forward to your continuing support through the next three months Respectfully, Your Finance Committee 2013 October Report from the BEPC Session ~ Session's communication, to the congregation, of major items discussed and major decisions made at each Session meeting. ~ Session met on Monday, October 7. With Rev. McAnsh off on medical leave, the meeting was moderated by Rev. Curtis Bablitz. It was reported to Session that George Rodgerson and Denis Hird are making good progress on the plans for the Boys’ Brigade Founders Day service on Sunday, October 27. More details about this service are in the bulletin. On behalf of Session, Donna Beaudin and Denise Crockford are making plans for a congregational potluck dinner on Friday, November 15. Look for more information on this in future Sunday bulletins. Session approved a congregational meeting to be held on Sunday, November 3. The primary topic will be a request that the funding of the repair that was done to the flat roof above the lift come from the Heritage Fund. A formal congregational meeting notification will be placed in the preceding two Sunday bulletins. Diane Closson has agreed to assume the role of convenor of the Christian Education Committee and will be working with others to ensure that we have a vibrant Sunday School program. On behalf of the Finance and Maintenance Committee, Ron Dekker presented a first pass 2014 operating budget. Further work will be done on the 2014 budget before it is approved by Session for presentation to the congregation at the Annual meeting. Session approved BEPC hosting a Christmas Day Dinner which will follow a similar format to last year’s dinner. Requests for volunteers will be placed in the bulletin when we get closer to Christmas. Session approved BEPC's participation in the Christmas Children’s Wish project with a local public school, the same as we have done in the last few years. The next regularly-scheduled Session meeting will be on Monday, November 4, 2013. Respectfully submitted your Session by Sunday School Registration Forms where handed out or sent out a few weeks ago to families who have children attending Sunday School. Can you please make sure that these forms are filled out and sent back to the church office or to Alison Hird. We live in such a beautiful part of the country as the Autumn leaves fill the trees with brilliant colors making the hills look like gigantic multi-colored flowers! One of the great themes of the Bible is that we are to be a people of Thanksgiving, not just one special day of the year, but as Christians we are to be thankful on a daily basis. If you were touched by the beautiful hymn “I need thee every hour” that we sang this morning, you can follow the link below and share in an acapella version of this hymn. The harmony in this video is all done by one person. You will be amazed at how he sings this old time moving hymn 'I Need Thee Every Hour' in twelve different ways.
