Kind Regards, Leisa, K-6 Canteen Superviser PJ or Green Day for Mitochondrial Disease Awareness Disease K-6 are having a “Dress in Pyjamas or Green Day” as part of our support to raise awareness of Mitochondrial Disease. With all of the fantastic support our school community has given over the past months, the P&C have made a donation to AMDF so we do not require a donation. Students may wear appropriate PJ’s (not singlets or nighties etc). Proper shoes are still required. If PJ’s are not your scene, wear green. Mitochondrial Disease affects both children and adults and often multiple family members. This disease robs the body of energy and life. Mitochondrial is a congenital disease, however it is becoming more prevelant in adult onset. Thanks for your support. Here is the story Erin Baker wrote. e stood so close to the edge of the bridge, he looked H as if he was about to dive into a pool for a pleasant swim. His fingernails dug into his palms as he put on his best poker face. “Tell me!” he screamed vainly, with lips tight. “Tell me how much you really do love me!” “Father” Arabelle screamed “This is ridiculous! Get down! You know how much we love you!” The father turned his head “Tell me, and I will tell you what you can have after my death!” The two younger, greedy sisters sniggered. The oldest rolled her eyes, thinking to herself how foolish her father really was. “I will jump!” His shrill cry could be heard from the other side of the village. The second younger sister, Dana, shuffled forward, with fake dismay over her face. “Father! Do not jump! I love you as much as the sun in the day!” The father happily took a step back “That is not enough!” “You don’t love me!” he cried. The youngest sister, Abelena, stepped forward proudly. “Father!” she proclaimed “I love you as much as the moon in the night!” The father chuckled, took another step back and said “That is not enough! You don’t love me!” Then he turned to his third daughter expectantly. “Father” she scorned, “this is silly! You know we love you a lot”. The father looked down on the girl, then back to the rushing water underneath the bridge. “How much?” he smirked. Arabelle smiled innocently “Father! I love you as much as the hair on your head”. “Which is….” Dana snorted “Very little!” Abelena finished with more cackles of laughter. The father took two steps forward and vainly said, “Dana, you shall get the house”. She jumped up and down happily, imagining the sell price. “Abelena, you shall get the possessions” She goofily smiled, imagining her mother’s jewels. “And you, Arabelle, shall get the goat” he spat. Her smile faded. She nonchalantly stroked her blonde hair. (She unlike the other brown headed sisters, had inherited her mother’s hair. She had also inherited her mother’s evilness.) She stepped towards her father with a sly grin. Then put her hands on his fat belly and pushed him off the bridge. The father didn’t even scream. In fact the only sound the sisters heard was the big splash the big fat man had made when he hit the water. “Now” Arabelle smiled “I can get my goat”. The two other sisters stared at the other sister worriedly, then ran to the other side of the bridge to see the body floating down the river. “I never really liked daytime” Dana smirked. “And I hate nighttime!” Abelena laughed. N Principal’s News etball News Two Southern Cross School K-12 teams battled out tough games against friendly rival, Ballina High School in Round 1 of the CHS Knock out competition early in Term 2. Our Open team consisting of Mikayla Gray, Catherine Allardyce, Gemma Ryan, Brianna Wilson, Sam Ryan, Kate Shaw, Elina Kalns and Isabel Mayo were narrowly defeated. In the U15 game it was close again. Eliza Armstrong worked hard in the centre for the entire game, while Olivia Barrett and Kate Shaw were superb in goals. Sam Ryan and Erin Copeland were consistently strong in defence and Isabel Mayo and Elina Kalns held their ground as WD and WA respectively. Winning by just one goal, the U15 team progressed to Round 2, defeating Murwillumbah High School in a home game at the Ballina Courts. Bianca Bowtell was a valuable addition to the team by this stage. We now had 8 players. The rest breaks were certainly needed in Round 3 as the Southern Cross team came up against Kingscliff High School. They played a hard game but were defeated by a stronger Kingscliff team. The boys in the Aboriginal Dance group gave an outstanding performance at the recent Child Protection Week awareness picnic day last week. They attended and performed on the day under the guidance of Mr David Hartwig. All players are to be congratulated for such a great effort. A special thank you to Year 11 student Emma Lohman for being our school umpire. Her expertise was greatly appreciated. We were fortunate to have the support of parents Liz Shaw and Paula Copeland. Thank you Liz and Paula for your good advice and continued support of school netball. On behalf of the Southern Cross Netballers thank you also to our Parents and Citizens Association for your generous support in enabling us to purchase the new netball dresses. Term four is fast approaching, AFTER a relaxing end of term 3 break. I would like to publicly thank the whole staff of our wonderful school and each and every volunteer and family member that makes us operate so well. We serve our students and families in the genuine hope that they grow and contribute to our broader Australian, indeed world wide, society even more than we have been able to contribute. The NAPLAN results should now be with every family and overall our students performed well. Of course there is always more to do and the staff are now into a Liz Harbison process of analysing the results and making pans for supporting students over the next 18 months as a result of these pointers. The Collage of Currumbin Fun pictured above results from NAPLAN are only a moment in CURRUMBIN EXCURSION 2011 time capture and the Kindergarten students could not have asked for better weather teachers now need to use this as one piece when they went on an excursion to Currumbin Wildlife of evidence together Sanctuary. The sun was shining and so were the smiles as the with their professional children had the opportunity to learn about many Australian animals and even interact with them. A big thank you to all the judgment to plan for improvements.
