RECENT ARCHAEOLOGICAL DISCOVERIES IN THE
SOUTH OF THE ARABIAN PENINSULA
In 2014 the Mission archéologique franco-saoudienne de Najrân in southwestern Saudi Arabia
discovered inscriptions in Arabic script dating to 470 CE that revolutionize the history of writing
and of the calendar in pre-Islamic Arabia.

It is now certain that, for 120 years, ca 380–500 CE, the kingdom of Himyar (that is to say
almost all of Arabia) was inclined towards Judaism. Then, after a troubled period, it was officially
Christian for over 40 years, ca 530–570. The question will be asked of the nature of this Judaism
and this Christianity.
