Introduction
Thank you for purchasing the Honeywell S7350B WebPAD. Before using your device, be sure to read the Getting Started With
Your S7350B WebPAD™ section for an overview of the initial setup procedures. Please refer to all the other information included
with your device.
You can use this User Guide as a comprehensive library of information for your Honeywell S7350B WebPAD™. It includes
information on a variety of topics. Please browse the Contents even if you are an experienced user. Please refer to the User
Guide first if you encounter any problems. It provides you with answers to many common questions or error messages. You can

CARING FOR YOUR WebPAD™
This section recommends guidelines for maintaining your S7350B WebPAD. Follow these suggestions to protect and preserve
the condition of your device.
Routine Care
CAUTION
User Damage Hazard.
Can damage internal equipment components.
Do not spray liquid directly on the screen or allow excess liquid to drip down inside the device.
IMPORTANT: To clean the device, wipe the screen and the exterior with a soft, damp cloth moistened only with water. Using
soap or other cleaning products on the screen can discolor the finish and damage the screen.
To keep your S7350B WebPAD working correctly, follow these guidelines:
• Operate the device with the main battery pack installed, even when using external power. This ensures having the
necessary operating power when disconnected from external power.
• Keep the device away from excessive moisture and temperature extremes. Do not expose the device to liquids or
precipitation.
• Do not place anything on top of the device at any time to prevent screen damage.
• Store the device in its cradle when not in use.
• Keep the device away from direct sunlight or strong ultraviolet light for extended periods of time.
• Avoid scratching the surface of the screen with any hard objects.
Travel Guidelines
IMPORTANT:
Be aware of the possible effect of airport security devices on your WebPAD. There are three types of airport security
devices: X-ray machines, magnetic detectors (the device you walk through), and security magnetic wands. It is recommended that you prevent exposure of your device to magnetic detectors and security magnetic wands.
When traveling with your S7350B WebPAD, follow these guidelines:
• Disconnect all external equipment from the device.
• Take the AC-DC adapter with you.
• Hand-carry your device in a protective case. Do not check it with your luggage.
• Do not use your device on an airplane. The radio can function even when you are working off-line.
Shipping Guidelines
When shipping your S7350B WebPAD, follow these guidelines:
• To safeguard your data, make a backup copy.
• Be sure the CompactFlash slot is empty to avoid risking loss of any portable data.
• Turn off the device and disconnect all external devices.
• Pack the device and all external devices (such as cords and cables) in the original packing boxes or in similar packaging
with sufficient protective packing material.

GETTING STARTED WITH YOUR S7350B WebPAD™
Congratulations on your purchase of the latest technology for Web and network access. This device (see Fig.1) is designed to
offer the functions and features required for optimal Internet Web browsing and many other embedded and network-based
applications. The wireless local area networking (LAN) feature allows “anytime, anywhere” mobility. The 10.4-in. (diagonal) LCD
panel with a touch screen offers a unique viewing and computing experience.

To communicate with the Internet, your WebPAD requires (see Fig. 2) a wireless, base station that is connected via CAT 5 wires,
directly or indirectly, to your Internet access mechanism; for example, analog, cable, or DSL modem, hub, or DHCP server.

• WebPAD unit with stylus and battery pack.
• AC-DC adapter.

The WebPAD has a 10.4-in. LCD panel (Fig. 3) with touch screen support. Data is entered through the touch screen using the
stylus and a soft keyboard. The soft keyboard is displayed when the K button on the front of the WebPAD is pressed. Pressing
the K button again removes the keyboard from the display.
IMPORTANT:
Use only the stylus to interact with the touch display to avoid damaging the display surface. Additional styluses are available as accessories through the Honeywell Web Store on the H-Link.
Data can also be entered using a USB keyboard plugged into the USB port of the WebPAD. It is recommended that the WebPAD
be placed in the cradle while entering data using the USB keyboard. The WebPAD USB port supports most USB keyboards and
pointing devices. Appendix B suggests some compatible USB keyboards and pointing devices. Refer to the H-Link for the latest
information.

CAUTION
Recharge device using only the AC-DC adapter designated for this WebPAD.
The primary source of WebPAD power is the battery pack. A DC-in Jack connects the AC-DC adapter provided (Fig. 4) with the
WebPAD to recharge the battery pack. Both the WebPAD and cradle have a DC-in Jack. The AC-DC adapter can be connected
directly to the WebPAD for charging and operating and connected to the cradle for battery charging whenever the WebPAD is in

The battery pack (Fig. 5) is visible and accessible from the back of the WebPAD. It provides up to five hours of battery support
with typical usage. The battery pack can be recharged only with the recommended AC-DC adapter. See the H-Link accessories
list.
It is not necessary to access the battery pack except to insert a fresh battery pack. To remove the battery pack, push the left and
right tabs out and slide the battery pack out through the top edge of the WebPAD (see Fig. 5). Slide the new battery pack into
position from the top and lock in place, pushing in both tabs.

IMPORTANT:
E-mail messages and unsaved attachments are not saved when the battery is removed. Be sure important messages
and attachments are retained in your PC- or remote host-based e-mail system. Limited storage is available to save
attachments locally to the FlashStorage2 folder or subfolders on your WebPAD. WordPad documents that are not saved
to the FlashStorage2 folder/subfolders are also not saved.

Manual Operation
Sleep
Fully-off
Sleep: Pull/quick release.
Fully-off: Pull down on switch and hold for at least four seconds. A beep will sound.
Recovery or power on
From Sleep mode: Pull/quick release.
From Fully-off: Pull/quick release.
Fig. 10 shows the right-side view. It shows a Universal Serial Bus (USB) port and a DC-in Jack to charge the battery pack or
operate the WebPAD using regular AC power:

Features
Display
The 10.4-in. (diagonal) LCD panel with a touch screen offers a convenient mobile browsing experience. Data can be entered from
the touch screen using the stylus and soft keyboard.
Stylus
The stylus included with the device is used to activate the touchscreen surface. It is stored within the device and is partially visible
on the top right front corner. To use the stylus, pull the end of the stylus straight out and to the right. Please do not use anything
other than the tip of the stylus to interact with the touch screen to avoid damaging the screen surface. Additional styluses are
available as accessories. See the Web Store on the H-Link.
Soft Keyboard
The soft keyboard displays when the K button is pressed on the front of the device. To remove the keyboard display, press the K
button again. Data can also be entered from a USB keyboard plugged into the USB port. It is recommended that the WebPAD be
stored in the cradle when working on the USB keyboard.
CAUTION
Replace only with the AC-DC adapter designated for this WebPAD.
AC Power
The WebPAD primary source of power is the battery pack. A DC-in Jack connects the provided AC-DC adapter to charge the
battery pack. The AC-DC adapter can be used when the battery is low and when the WebPAD is positioned in its cradle. The ACDC adapter can also be connected to the cradle and charge the WebPAD through the charging contacts.
Battery Power
The battery pack is accessible from the back of the WebPAD. It can provide up to four hours of battery life with typical usage. It
can be recharged with the AC-DC adapter provided. Use only the recommended AC-DC adapter. It is not necessary to access
the battery pack except to replace it. To remove the battery pack, push the left and right tabs out, and slide the battery pack out
through the top edge. Slide the new battery pack into position from the top and push in both tabs to lock it into place.

IMPORTANT:
Electronic mail messages and unsaved attachments are not saved when the battery is removed. Be sure important
messages and attachments are sent to your PC- or remote host-based e-mail system. Limited storage is available to
save attachments locally to the FlashStorage2 folder or subfolders on your WebPAD. Pocket Word documents that are
not already saved to the FlashStorage2 folder/subfolders also are not saved.
LED Indicators
The WebPAD has three LEDs to indicate power, battery and link information:
• Power: Steady green when On or in Sleep mode; rapidly blinking green for five seconds when battery power is low and
cannot power the device. (In addition to Full Power On and Full Power Off modes, the S7350B supports an additional
mode, the Sleep mode, to conserve power. See Power Switch and Operation sections.)
IMPORTANT:
When unplugged and immediately re-plugged, the Battery Status amber LED blinks again, even though the battery may
be fully charged. This is normal and the LED shows a fully-charged steady amber within a few minutes.
• Battery Status:
—
Under AC power: Steady amber when fully charged; blinking amber when charging.
—
Under battery pack power: Blinks rapidly when battery level is low.
IMPORTANT:
The Link/Activity LED indicates the status of the wireless module in the WebPAD. The green LED is activated when the
RF component is active.
• Link/Activity: Blinking green when the wireless module is active.
Function Buttons
The WebPAD features a rocker-type scroll key and four function buttons:
• Scroll key— (rocker key) for line scrolling or level adjustments. Supports vertical scrolling function in Web browsing and
in Windows applications. Also used to adjust brightness settings.
• Soft keyboard—Displays when the button is pressed; closes when the button is pressed again.
NOTE: Please refer to the Applications section of this document for details of configuring and setting up the e-mail application and the instructions for reading and sending e-mail messages.
• E-mail application—Brings user into e-mail inbox application of Windows CE when the button is pressed; closes
application when the button is pressed again.
• Windows CE desktop or “*”—Pressing this button brings the user from any application back to the Windows CE
desktop. The previous window minimizes in the taskbar. If there is no activity on the desktop, pressing the button again
minimizes the new application window to the taskbar and displays the desktop. Depending on the source of your
WebPAD, this button can take you to a Web-based portal.
• Honeywell H-Link—Pressing this button starts the IE browser application and places the application/window in the
background. The browser is then directed to the pre-programmed Honeywell H-Link.
Microphone
A built-in microphone is provided with the S7350B WebPAD. It is located in the lower right front corner. For applications
supported, see the H-Link.
NOTE: Microphone is not currently supported in the software but will be supported when the relevant applications are available.
Speaker
A single, built-in speaker is located on the lower left front corner of the WebPAD. It supports audio features in the software
applications. The volume control is set through the operating system or the application. In the Windows CE taskbar, click on the
Start button, select Settings, then Control Panel, and then the Sounds icon. Sound from the speaker is muted when a headphone
is used (see Headphone Jack section).
Antenna
The S7350B features an antenna system designed for radiating (and receiving) RF LAN signals. This antenna system provides
optimal communication over the wireless link. The elements are not removable or user replaceable.

Loops
Two semi-circular loops are located on the upper edge of the WebPAD. The loops can be used as attachment points for
handstraps to carry the device.
Power Switch
A power switch is located on the lower left edge of the WebPAD. It supports the following functions:
• Power On (from Full Power Off and Sleep modes).
• Full Power Off.
• Manual entry into Sleep mode.

Turn on the device from the Full Power Off mode with a pull and quick-release of the power switch, followed by a delay of
about 30 seconds before the device is operational. (If the device was originally in Sleep mode, the time delay will be
approximately two seconds.)
IMPORTANT
The pull-and-hold power switch requirement prevents accidental power cutoff that can cause data loss and unnecessary restarting.

Turn off the device (Full Power Off) by pulling and holding the power switch for about four seconds until the display turns
off. A beep will sound as an audio indication of entering Full Power Off.
To enter the Sleep mode, pull and quick-release the Power switch; pull and quick-release again to return to the operational
(Full Power On) mode. An additional approach to entering the Sleep mode is the timed method—using Windows CE Taskbar: Start, Settings, Control Panel, Power icon, Sleep tab.
USB Port
The S7350B features a USB Port located on the lower-right side. A rubber cover protects this port. The USB port currently
supports only USB mouse, keyboard, and printer devices. It is recommended that the WebPAD be stored and be charging in the
cradle when working with these USB devices.
NOTE: Be sure to verify that your keyboard and pointing device selections are approved by referencing the current list on the HLink. (Most USB keyboards and pointing devices are compatible with the WebPAD USB port.) Also refer to Appendixes
B and C for discussion on keyboard/pointing device support and printing devices.
DC-in Jack
The WebPAD is normally a battery-operated device. The battery operating capacity is four to five hours under typical operating
conditions.
NOTE: When not in use, it is recommended that the WebPAD battery be recharged. The recharging mechanism is built into the
WebPAD. Simply insert the AC-DC adapter provided with the WebPAD into the DC-in Jack, located on the lower right
edge, next to the USB port. The recharging time can be up to two and one-half hours for a fully discharged battery pack.
Store the WebPAD in the cradle when the AC-DC adapter is plugged into the DC-in Jack. Use only recommended AC-DC
adapters. See the H-Link.
CompactFlash™ (CF) Slot
The bottom-edge of the WebPAD has a rubber pull-out cover over a headphone jack and a CompactFlash (CF) slot. The CF slot,
when used with a compatible CF card, provides user-accessible storage for user data or downloaded data.
NOTE: The CF card in this slot is identified by \My Computer\FlashStorage3. You may find FlashStorage4 and so on if the external CF card has multiple partitions. You can save your data into this CF card or run applications (Windows CE-compatible) from it; for example, MP3 files, media files, word processing, view images, etc.
NOTE: Refer to Appendix D for information on using the CompactFlash Slot.
Headphone Jack
The headphone jack, located next the CompactFlash slot on the bottom edge of the WebPAD, operates with standard audio
headsets to provide a private audio stereo experience. When a headset is inserted, the sound to the speaker is bypassed.

Included Accessories
PROTECTIVE JACKET
A protective jacket is provided for safe-handling of the device.To install the protective jacket:
1. Slip the jacket over the antenna.
2. Fit the two semi-circular loops through the matching openings in the jacket.
3. Stretch the jacket over the lower left and lower right corners.
4. To remove the protective jacket, reverse the procedure.

CRADLE
A cradle is provided with the device. See the H-Link for replacement ordering information. To attach the WebPAD to the cradle,
place the two cradle docking recesses on the back of the WebPAD over the two hooks on the cradle. Store the WebPAD in the
cradle when:
• The battery pack is recharging.
• The WebPAD is not in use.
• The WebPAD is used with a USB keyboard and/or pointing device and/or printer.
NOTE: The cradle for S7350B also supports the charging function. Contact pins on the cradle and the WebPAD are used to
recharge the WebPAD through the AC-DC adapter that can be connected to the back of the cradle.

USING THE WebPAD™
System Requirements
The S7350B uses a wireless transceiver conforming to the IEEE 802.11b wireless LAN protocol for connecting to the local
network. To connect to an in-home Ethernet network, an in-home PC acting as a DHCP server, or directly to an Internet Service
Provider, the industry offers several types of matching transceivers as network access points or base stations. Standalone access
points, bridges and routers, and PC based solutions are available.The actual matching device depends on the network
configuration. See Appendix A.
To connect to an Ethernet 10BaseT network, you need an 802.11b-based access point or an 802.11b-based wireless router/
gateway to operate with the S7350B. These devices are available from Honeywell (H-Link). See Appendix A for suggestions of
compatible S7350B equipment.

NOTE: An out-of-the-box S7350B will not have the wireless link configured. As such, the device will ask for wireless configuration information (see Appendix A) when powered on as a new device or if the factory default settings have been restored
(see Registries Save/Restore configuration below). After a set of wireless link information has been provided, the
S7350B will us these settings to automatically launch the Internet browser and access the default URL (web-site).

2. In the Stores tab, select the certificate store you wish to view or modify from the drop-down list. To add a certificate or associated private key to the selected store, select Import.

selected certificate from the store, choose Remove.

calibration, may be saved as they are changed. This feature allows user to save all settings outside of the criteria for
automatic processing. Click OK.
• Default Settings: Select this tab to be able to reset the system to its default factory settings. This is a simple means of
resetting the device parameters for a new user, new environment, or when the system encounters unexpected or hung
states through aggressive usage patterns. This feature may be password-protected. Click OK.
• Backup/Restore Setting: Select this tab to be able to backup or restore saved settings for the S7350B. This may be
applicable where environment and user are subject to change. Click OK.

STORAGE MANAGER SETUP

NOTE: The general instructions provided by the software may call for keyboard actions such as “Enter” and ”Esc”. In the case
of the S7350B WebPAD, the Stylus user should tap on the display to accept the new calibration entries and to re-calibrate should a set of entries be undesirable.

device. This section highlights the primary applications that are available with the S7350B.
Internet Explorer (IE)
The IE for Windows CE browser that is provided with the operation system has been enhanced with plug-ins and features to offer
rich Web experience as well as a compatible interface to access browser or Web server-based applications and information.
NOTE: You may be able to print accessed Web pages using the Print function under File. Refer to Appendix C for more
information.

To surf the Web, click Internet Explorer on the Desktop screen to display the default Website. You can change the default
Website by using the IE browser, selecting View and clicking on Internet Options.
To link to the other Websites, type the address on the field at the top of the screen.
To exit the browser, click File; click Close to exit to Windows CE desktop.
To exit the Internet and go to Windows CE desktop while keeping the Web browser open, click the Windows Taskbar at the
bottom of the screen. Click Windows Taskbar any time to go back to the Website.
To download and save a file to the WebPad, use the FlashStorage2 folder. Any file you save in any other folder is deleted
when the system is turned off. See IMPORTANT message.
InBox - Reading and Sending E-mail
The Microsoft InBox application is a local email client offering an embedded alternative to Web-based mail.
NOTE: The WebPAD can read files in TXT, DOC, DOT, RTF, HTML, GIF, and JPG formats.
NOTE: You may be able to print the messages being read by using the Print function under File. Refer to Appendix C for more
information.
NOTE: Use the online Help (“?”) module to learn more about configuring and using the Inbox effectively.

To configure your Inbox, open the Inbox program.
Select Services and Options to see window with Services, Compose, Read, Delete, and Storage.
Select Services, click Add and select the type of email service you have: IMAP4 or POP3
In the Mail Service definition (IMAP4 or POP3), type in the information for Connection, Server, User ID and Password. If
you do not have the information, contact your Network Administrator.
Click Next to configure Connections Settings. Select default settings and click Next.
In Mail Inbox References, select the options you need, using either full copy messages or headers only.
To save e-mail attachments to local storage, save in your limited storage FlashStorage2 folder in My computer. Any file you
save in any other folder is deleted when the system is turned off. See IMPORTANT message.
IMPORTANT:
E-mail messages and unsaved attachments are not saved when the battery is removed. Be sure important messages
and attachments are retained in your PC-or remote host-based e-mail system. Limited storage is available to save
attachments locally to the FlashStorage2 folder or subfolders on your WebPAD. Word Pad documents that are not
saved to the FlashStorage2 folder/subfolders are also not saved.
WordPad
Windows CE.NET provides the WordPad (similar to Pocket Word) word processing application. This is included with the S7350B
WebPAD.
NOTE: You may be able to print the documents or pages being read by using the Print function under File. Refer to Appendix C
for more information.

Terminal Clients: ICA and RDP
You may use the S7350B to connect to Citrix and Microsoft Terminal Servers. These are important elements of the S7350B
WebPAD in that the S7350B can function as a thin client or Windows terminal in client/server computing environments where the
Microsoft and Citrix server infrastructure are becoming more pervasive. In such deployments, the S7350B offers a combination of
full Windows experience, mobility, ease of use, and low management cost in a friendly and cost effective package.
You may invoke the terminal clients and the respective connections in the following manner.

“Start” > “Programs” > “Terminal Client” > “Citrix ICA” to connect to Citrix Terminal Server using Citrix ICA protocol.
Invoke “Remote Desktop Connection” from Windows CE Desktop to connect to Microsoft Terminal Server based on
Microsoft’s RDP protocol.
Terminal Emulation
The S7350B offers a terminal emulation package to support the terminal paradigm for the WebPAD. You may invoke Terminal
Emulation from Windows CE Desktop (or Start>Programs>Terminal Emulation) to connect to remote host computers such as
IBM, DEC, and a variety of other machines.
JVM: Java Virtual Machine
The S7350B WebPAD is equipped with a dedicated Java Virtual Machine to enable users to view and access Java-based applets
and applications over the Web as well local networks.
PDF, Microsoft Office, and Multi-Format Document Viewer
To enhance its application as an effective business or leisure tool, the S7350B has a documents viewer which is armed with the
ability to present not only PDF and Microsoft Office documents for viewing on the WebPAD. Documents, pictures, and images in
various other formats are viewable with the S7350B through both the browser or in standalone mode (Start> Programs>
Document Viewer).
Inking
The S7350B is equipped with an inking tool accessible from the Windows CE desktop. Using the Inking application, you may
write messages or take notes using the touch screen for records as files or for transmittal via e-mail as attachments.
Handwriting Recognition - Transcriber
This is the versatile handwriting recognition application provided with the Windows CE .NET operating software. Transcriber may
be activated by double tapping on icon on the Windows CE .NET Desktop or by selecting Start>Programs>Transcriber. So
that mouse taps do not get confused with handing entries, it is advised that you start your Application (e.g., WordPad) before
activating Transcriber. An online Help module is available for guidance with the Transcriber application.
USB Peripherals
Other than keyboards, pointing devices, and printers, the USB port on the S7350B offers plug-&-play support for selected
peripherals such as floppy disk drives and bar-code scanners.
System Update
This function is for updating or upgrading software from the Honeywell H-Link. This application is accessible through Start>
Programs>Update.
IMPORTANT
Be sure to follow any on-screen warning messages. Close all applications.
1. Select update from Programs list; Update window is displayed.
2. Input appropriate file name and Server IP Address; click Update button to automatically update device software from
server. Follow the displayed instructions carefully. After loading, click OK as instructed.
3. The System Update procedure is complete.

APPENDIX A:
THE S7350B WIRELESS LINK
Introduction
The S7350B WebPAD is equipped with an IEEE 802.11b compliant wireless module for communicating with a companion access
point or base station, which then facilitates access to the Internet via broadband or dialup interfaces. The wireless link between
the S7350B and the base station is established over the unlicensed 2.4 GHz radio frequency band using the direct sequencing
spread spectrum (DSSS) protocol.
IEEE 802.11b wireless technology is capable of supporting up to 11 Mbps* in raw data rate. The base station must also be
802.11b wireless LAN protocol-compliant for communicating with the WebPAD.
The base station can be in one of the following forms:
— 802.11b Wireless broadband and/or dialup router that integrates the 802.11b access point and non-wireless router functions.
(The Honeywell W7351B 802.11b router provides this integrated solution.)
Technical Note: The Wireless Router is configured for acquisition of an IP address from a DHCP server located at the ISP.
The WebPAD is configured for acquisition of an IP address from a DHCP server located in the Wireless Router.
— 802.11b Access Point (or Bridge) connected to a broadband (cable, DSL) modem
Technical Note: The Access Point or Bridge works in transparent mode. The WebPAD is configured for acquisition of IP
address via a DHCP server located in the ISP or elsewhere in the network.
— 802.11b Access Point (or Bridge) in turn connected to a non-wireless broadband and/or V.90 dialup router.
Technical Note: The Access Point or Bridge works in transparent mode. The Router is configured for acquisition of IP address

IMPORTANT:
Your S7350B WebPAD does not contain specialized or dedicated functions to configure either an 802.11b Router or an
Access Point (or Bridge). It is highly recommended that your basestation (802.11b Router or Access Point (or Bridge))
be able to be configured from a Web browser. This allows you to set the addressing modes, ESSID and Encryption
mode by either your in-home PC or your WebPAD.
*The data rate ranges from 1 Mbps to 11 Mbps, depending on the distance between the base station and the WebPAD. See the
table below for a typical matrix correlating range versus data rate.

Assigning IP addresses facilitates the communication between the base station and the network and the WebPAD to the base
station. Two other features play a key role in establishing the wireless connectivity between the WebPAD and the base station:
ESSID and WEP.
ESSID
The ESSID is a unique ID given to the 802.11b Access Point. Wireless clients associated with any access point must have the
same ESSID. This allows your wireless adapter to associate to a corresponding access point in the vicinity of your wireless
adapters.
When moving your computer to another location within the network environment, and it is out of range of the current access point,
the roaming functionality (if supported by the access points) automatically connects your computer to the nearest access point.

WEP
To prevent unauthorized wireless stations from accessing data transmitted over the network, the 802.11b wireless solution offers
highly secure data encryption known as WEP. If you require high security in transmission, you can enable this feature under the
Encryption setting.
You can choose between: Disabling WEP, selecting 40/64 bit encryption, and selecting 128 bit encryption.
Under 40/64 bit WEP, you can identify up to four different encryption keys and select one of them to encrypt your transmission
data. The key value of your choice should be:
• 10 digit hexadecimal values in the range of A-F and 0-9; for example, 11AA22BB33.
You do not need to enter all four keys because WEP uses only one key. Select one key as an active key to encrypt wireless data.
Then click OK for the new settings take effect.
Under 128 bit WEP, you can identify one encryption key to encrypt your transmission data. The key value of your choice should
be:
• 26 digit hexadecimal values in the range of A-F and 0-9; for example, 11AA22BB33CC44DD55EE66FF77.
The default setting for WEP on the S7350B is DISABLED.
Configuration
Base Station Configuration - To configure the base station:
(i) use a Windows-based utility installed on and operated from a device (PC) on your in-home network;
(ii) use a browser-based utility accessible from any browser-enabled device, including the WebPAD.
WebPAD Configuration -
• Under the zero configuration design of the wireless 802.11b LAN support under Windows CE .NET the S7350B will detect all
802.11b basestations within range for you to select a base station for connection.
• The ESSID and WEP Parameter (if enabled) on the S7350B and the base stations have to match. Zero configuration will
guide the ESSID setup. WEP is “Disabled” as default on the S7350B - it is recommended that you enable WEP encryption for
secure access.
• Tap on the wireless LAN icon (see below) on the Windows CE Taskbar, to configure the wireless adapter in the S7350B. You
may also access the same utility through the Control Panel - Start>Settings>Control Panel>Network and Dial-up Connections
icon.
• You may also view or refresh the device’s IP address information through this process.
• NOTE: The network connectivity icon changes appearance as in the following:

NOTE: You will not see any of the icons above in the Taskbar in the network adapter is not detected or supported by the S7350B
WebPAD.
When the S7350B is powered on, you may be presented with the wireless configuration window/interface depending on 2 sets of
circumstances. If the device is powered on for the very first time or if its settings have been reset to factory defaults, the wireless
information interface will appear -- to guide you through the wireless configuration. If the wireless network has been set up
previously, the S7350B will automatically launch the IE browser to a pre-configured (but user changeable - View Menu-> Internet
Options) URL or Web site.
In the former situation, you will see the Windows CE Desktop with the wireless configuration utility displayed. The following figure
shows how the basic steps are executed for establishing the wireless networking. The sequence of steps is:

— Select one target from various wireless base stations (Access Points and Wireless Routers) that are detected by the S7350B
wireless adapter;
— Acknowledge the ESSID acquired by the S7350B’s wireless adapter;
— Select WEP configuration if applicable (ask your administrator);
— Click on OK as needed to return to primary display where information on Status of connection to the target base station with
corresponding Signal Strength will be provided.

NOTE: If a wireless network had previously been defined through the process highlighted above, you will need to repeat the
configuration process if the environment (Access Point, WEP parameters, etc.) has changed to something unfamiliar.
The device will attempt to connect to default URL based on previous information but will fail in establishing a connection
to the network and an error message will be displayed.
NOTE: Some additional relevant parameters and their description:
[Mode] -- Default mode of communication for the S7350B WebPAD is “Infrastructure” where the WebPAD and other wireless
clients communicate with a base station or access point.
[Transmit Rate] -- The 802.11b protocol allows transmissions at different data rates: 1, 2, 5.5 and 11Mbps. In general, a lower
rate allows reliable transmissions over a longer range. It is recommended that where possible the option (Full) Automatic be
chosen to allow the wireless component to determine the optimal link rate.

PRINTING
The S7350B WebPAD supports printing from various applications—IE Browser, WordPad, Inbox:
— local printing via the built-in USB port. Local USB port printing currently supports EPSON Stylus and HP DeskJet printers (see
Supported USB Printers section).

EXTERNAL COMPACTFLASH (CF) SLOT
This section discusses the usability of the external CF slot located on the lower edge of the S7350B.
The CF slot has an opening to insert a CF card next to an ejector button. When a CF card is inserted into the empty slot, the
ejector button protrudes. Pushing on this protruded button ejects the inserted card. The CF slot in the S7350B is designed to
provide storage for email attachments, file downloads, external (Windows CE-compatible) applications, etc. It is the
“FlashStorage3” in the file structure of the Windows CE device. You may find FlashStorage4 and so on if the external CF card has
multiple partitions. To display the contents of the inserted CF card, select My Computer->FlashStorage3. Note that
“FlashStorage” and “FlashStorage2” (e.g., My Computer->FlashStorage2) are dedicated storage partition in the internal flash
memory of the S7350B WebPAD.

Section 1: Usability Features
1. How can I adjust the display settings on the S7350B WebPAD?
The S7350B WebPAD offers a color display with adjustable brightness for rich, brilliant colors and easy viewing, even in subdued
lighting. To adjust the brightness on your display in the prevailing environment, click (or tap) on Start, select Settings, select
Control Panel and activate the Display icon. Look for the Brightness dialog box. Brightness levels can be set by tapping on the
direction arrows or using the scrolling rocker key to move the level setting after using the stylus to select the level bar.
2. How do I enter information on the S7350B WebPAD?
The S7350B has a touch screen keyboard to enter information with the stylus; to activate the keyboard, press on the keyboard K
button on the bottom of the WebPAD. To deactivate the keyboard, press on the keyboard button again. The USB port on the
WebPAD also allows keyboard input using USB keyboard devices.
3. How can I protect my information from unauthorized access?
The S7350B comes with a security utility that allows you to set your password. When password authentication is enabled, you
need password entry to modify or execute owner information, firmware update, system settings, reset to factory default
configuration and password changes. Activate the Password icon within the Control Panel to initiate the password protection
functions.
4. Can I install third party software on the S7350B WebPAD?
No. The S7350B is not designed to facilitate user installation of third party software.
5. Can I print from the S7350B WebPAD?

11. Can I use a USB-based communication device with the S7350B WebPAD?
No. The S7350B is currently designed only for use over the built-in wireless RF LAN for communications.
12. Is the wireless link secure?
The wireless link used by the S7350B WebPAD is based on the IEEE 802.11b wireless technology. Security is a common
concern among potential WLAN users. 802.11b specifies 40-bit (often called 64 bit because the SSID security code is added to
the key) or 128-bit encryption via wired equivalent privacy (WEP), an optional security mechanism designed to make wireless link
integrity equal to wired links. Note that WEP is optional, which means some products might not use it. If you're concerned about
the security of your wireless data, be sure to choose access points and client adapters that support WEP.
The Honeywell S7350B provides both 64- bit and 128-bit encryption. The Honeywell W7351B Router supports 64-bit encryption.
13. What is 802.11b wireless technology?
The 802.11b wireless LAN systems use radios in the 2.4-GHz frequency band, the same band microwave ovens use. The
advantages of this band are that it provides a lot of spectrum space and does not require licensing of the radio devices.
Recognizing the critical need to support higher data-transmission rates, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers
(IEEE) 802 Committee ratified the 802.11b standard in September, 1999, for transmissions of up to 11 Mbps. These radio-based
standards operate within the 2.4 GHz ISM band. These frequency bands are recognized by international regulatory agencies
such as the FCC (USA), ETSI (Europe), and the MKK (Japan) for unlicensed radio operations.
The 802.11b standard is the first standard to make WLANs usable in the workplace by providing robust and reliable 11 Mbps
performance, five times faster than the original 802.11 standard. Recently the costs for this technology allow it to also be used in
a home environment. The new standard gives WLAN customers the freedom to choose flexible, interoperable solutions from
multiple sources because it is endorsed by most major networking and personal computer vendors. Broad manufacturer
acceptance and certifiable inter-operability means users can expect to see affordable, high-speed wireless solutions proliferate
throughout large enterprise, small business, and home markets. This global wireless LAN standard opens exciting new
opportunities to expand the potential of network computing.
14. Can I use any 802.11b Access Points or Routers with the S7350B WebPAD?
Theoretically, yes. The 802.11b standard facilitates this flexibility. To ensure that security of the wireless link can be achieved,
ESSID and WEP support must be provided by these access points and routers. But it is always safer to refer to the tested
equipment list (Appendix A and H-Link) for guidance. Select the Honeywell S7351B 802.11b Wireless Router was to ensure
compatibility with the WebPAD.
15. Can my WebPAD configure the access points or routers?
If the access point or router has a browser-based configuration interface, it is possible for the WebPAD to use its browser
application to access the router or access point for configuration. It is intended that approved or recommended access points and
routers have this browser-based configuration interface.
16. What is an 802.11b Access Point?
The 802.11b standard defines two types of equipment, a wireless station or client (a PC or an Internet/Information Appliance such
as the Honeywell WebPAD that is equipped with a 802.11b radio or wireless network interface card) and an access point (AP that
acts as a bridge between the wireless and wired networks. An access point usually consists of a radio, a wired network interface
and bridging software conforming to the 802.1d bridging standard. The access point acts as the base station for the wireless
network, aggregating access for multiple wireless stations onto the wired network. Access points can also include functions such
as Dynamic Host Control Protocol (DHCP), Network Address Translation (NAT), PPPoE registration, and Firewall functions. The
Honeywell W7351B includes an 802.11b Access Point.
17. What is the data rate of 802.11b RF technology?
To support very noisy environments as well as extended range, 802.11b WLANs use dynamic rate shifting, allowing data rates to
be automatically adjusted to compensate for the changing nature of the radio channel. Ideally, users connect at the full 11 Mbps
rate. However, when devices move beyond the optimal range for 11 Mbps operation, or if substantial interference is present,
802.11b devices transmit at lower speeds, falling back to 5.5, 2, and 1 Mbps. Also, if the device moves back within the range of a
higher-speed transmission, the connection automatically speeds up again. Rate shifting is a physical-layer mechanism
transparent to the user and the upper layers of the protocol stack.
18. What if I have more than one Honeywell WebPAD or other 802.11b clients?
The logic of the S7350B and the W7351B allows for more than 250 802.11b devices. As on any network, performance degrades
as traffic increases. Depending on utilization of the WebPADs on a single-access point, users may experience delays. It is
possible to add additional in-range 802.11b Access Points to share the traffic load.

19. What is roaming?
When an 802.11b client such as the Honeywell S7350B WebPAD is in an environment with two or more access points in-range,
the client is responsible for choosing the most appropriate access point based on the signal strength, network utilization and
other factors. When a station determines the existing signal is poor, it begins scanning for another access point. The station
selects the most appropriate signal and sends an association request to the new access point. If the new access point sends an
association response, the client has successfully roamed.
Periodically, the 802.11b client surveys all 802.11b channels to assess whether a different access point would provide it with
better performance characteristics. If it determines this, it re-associates with the new access point, tuning to the radio channel
where that access point is set.
20. Is 802.11b RF technology safe?
As for other wireless technologies, WLANs must meet stringent government and industry standards for safety. Several wireless
technology industries are concerned about the health risks of wireless use. To date, scientific studies are unable to attribute
adverse health effects to WLAN transmissions. Also, the output power of wireless LAN systems is limited by FCC regulations to
under 100 mW, less than for a mobile phone. It is expected that any health effects related to radio transmissions are correlated to
power and physical proximity to the transmitter.
21.
Other than WEP, what other security features are available?
• ESSID (often called SSID.) For access control, the ESSID (also known as a WLAN Service Area ID) is programmed
into each access point and is required knowledge for a wireless client to associate with an access point. An identification
value called ESSID is programmed into each access point to identify which subnet it is on. This can be used as an
authentication check; if a station does not know this value, it is not allowed to associate with the access point.
• Normal LAN Security. 802.11b RF networks support the same security standards supported by other 802 LANs for
access control (such as network operating system logins) and encryption (such as IPSec or application-level
encryption). These higher-layer technologies can be used to create end-to-end secure networks encompassing both
wired LAN and WLAN components, with the wireless piece of the network gaining unique additional security from the
802.11 feature set.

22. What is the standard battery life on the S7350B WebPAD?
Approximately four to five hours of typical usage. Note that actual results can vary with individual usage.
23. How long does it take to charge and recharge the battery?
Approximately three hours to fully charge the battery.

provide battery backup for information, such as date and time, when the main battery pack is drained.

Click on File at the top left corner of the window and select Close. To leave the window minimized, press on the Desktop button
(see Fig. 6). The browser is minimized to the Taskbar and the Windows CE Desktop is displayed. To reopen it, click on the
corresponding box in the Taskbar icon.This function allows the user to temporarily access other applications without terminating
the Internet link.
31. Can I save a list of my favorites Web sites?
Yes. Click Favorites in the browser. Select Add to store the URL link to the Web site.

First you need to configure POP3 or IMAP Mail. Open Inbox. Click Services and to Options, add POP3 or IMAP Mail, and select

attachments. In IMAP Mail Inbox Preferences, select Get file attachments and meeting requests.
34. Can I read my e-mail without a wireless connection?
Yes. If the S7350B is not powered off, you can read the previously downloaded mail messages from the device after the RF
network connection is lost. However, if the device has undergone a full power-off cycle after the RF link terminated, the e-mail
messages are lost except for any attachments saved to the FlashStorage2 folder or subfolders. (These attachments are available
for offline viewing.)
35. Can I download and view Microsoft Word Files?
Desktop Word files received through Inbox e-mail attachments are converted to WordPad format, which is roughly equivalent to
rich text format. You can view and edit these files on the WebPAD using the WordPad application. The files are automatically
updated and converted back to MS Word format on the desktop the next time these files are sent back to a PC. The S7350B is
also equipped with document viewers (Start>Programs>Document Viewer) that can be invoked automatically or manually to view
documents in PDF and Microsoft Office formats.
36. How can I save my Microsoft Word Files?
Save any file you create under WordPad or receive through email to the FlashStorage2 folder and subfolders. You can access
the folder from My Computer.

TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE
Section 1: Power
SYMPTOM 1
WebPAD does not turn on when not connected to AC power.
POSSIBLE SOLUTION(S) 1:
• The power may be too low to run your WebPAD—you will see the Power LED on the front panel blinking. Connect to AC
power, and then turn on your Honeywell WebPAD. (Charge the battery regularly to avoid running out of battery power.)
SYMPTOM 2
Battery runs out of power quickly.
You are using your WebPAD in ways that drain power quickly:
• Use external power to charge and power your device whenever possible.
• Use charging cradle.
• Use Sleep and Power-off timers (Start>Settings>Control Panel>Power icon).
SYMPTOM 3
WebPAD automatically shuts down.
Power is too low to run the WebPAD. When a critically low power condition is encountered, the Power LED on the front panel
blinks and the WebPAD initiates a safety shutdown.
• Connect to AC power and charge the battery.

You may lose any unsaved data when WebPAD automatically shuts down.
SYMPTOM 4
WebPAD locks up when running applications, or it runs slowly.
• Reset the WebPAD by powering it off and on.
IMPORTANT:
You may lose any unsaved data when resetting.
Hint: Check to be sure the device is not running low on power, and avoid running several applications at the same time. Close
applications that are not in use.
SYMPTOM 5
Honeywell WebPAD does not turn on or the display appears to be off, even though power is on.
• Honeywell WebPAD is in Sleep mode— if the Power LED is on, tap on the screen to see if display activates.
• Honeywell WebPAD has run out of power—connect to AC power to recharge the device.
Section 2: Network Connection
The following solutions may help if you encounter problems in network connections:
• Verify that you have added necessary server information.
—
On the Start menu, tap Settings then Control Panel.
—
Double tap the Network and Dial-up Connections icon, and double tap the embedded wireless adapter.
—
Enter any necessary information. Normal Networks use DHCP, so you should not have to change these settings
unless your ISP instructs you to do so.
• Verity that both your WebPAD and your base station are set to the same SSID and encryption choice.
• If network connection is not successful, wait a few minutes and try again. Also, if synchronization does not start right
away, the network is probably busy, and it may take a minute for your device to connect to the network.
• Verify with your ISP that your user name and password are correct.
• Verify with your ISP that your network choice is available.

• You may need to change the device name if you cannot connect to a network because another device with the same
name is already connected. To change the device name:

Select Start> Settings> Control Panel> System
—
In the System Properties window, choose Device Name tab.
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
1. When the IE browser is activated, a box comes up that says “A connection to the server could not be established.”
Make sure your wireless router is set up correctly, powered on and you are in range.
2. The router is fine, but the IE browser still cannot connect. Make sure the wireless networking icon (lower right corner of
screen, in Taskbar, two overlapping monitors) is free of an “X” and is blinking. If the icon is missing, the wireless adapter is
undetected by the S7350B. If the icon is highlighted with an “X”, there is no connection to the network. A proper icon means
that a connection has been established with the network and if there is activity, the icon will blink.
3. Double tap on this icon to access the Wireless LAN utility, which can be used (select Wireless Information tab) to change
your 802.11b settings and to display the current status of your connection to the 802.11b Access Point.
4. All the above is correct, but IE browser still cannot connect to the Internet. Activate wireless networking icon on the
Taskbar. Select IP Information tab. Tap on Renew button. All the numbers should go to zero and then, after a delay, all the
numbers should change to numbers within your router’s range. If they did not, check to make sure you have DHCP set up
on your router.
5. If the above still fails... It is time to try a static IP address. You need to find the valid IP address range for your 802.11b
Router. Tap on Start, then Settings, then Control Panel. Double tap on the Network and Dial-up Connections icon. In the
window that comes up, select the wireless LAN adapter. In the window displayed, select IP Address tab, select Specify an
IP address, type in a valid IP address for your router, tap on Subnet Mask (the numbers should fill in), tap on Default Gateway, and type in your router gateway address. Tap on the Name Servers tab, and type in valid DNS numbers for your router
or your ISP. (If you don't know these numbers, call your ISP.) Tap on OK buttons to close the boxes, then power down your
WebPAD (hold the power switch down until the screen goes black and you hear a soft beep). Power your WebPAD back up
and you should connect.
Section 3: Display
SYMPTOM 1
Screen is dark.
Follow these steps if the screen remains dark or if the device does not respond when you briefly press the on/off button:
• Pull the battery pack and reset.
• Use AC power in case the battery is weak.
• Check if device is in Sleep mode.
• Check if device is powered off.
SYMPTOM 2
Display is difficult to see in sunlight or in dark rooms.
• Adjust brightness for optimal viewing.
SYMPTOM 3
Inaccurate response to stylus tap.
The touch screen may require recalibrating.
• Follow the steps by clicking Start, Setting, Control Panel and Stylus.

Calibration is in the Stylus Properties window. Select Calibration tab to realign the touch screen.
—
Press both the Soft Keyboard and the Email buttons at the same time for the calibration.
• If you cannot calibrate the touch screen, contact Honeywell technical support from http://www.honeywell.com/
yourhome.
SYMPTOM 4
Color changes when exiting Sleep Mode.
• Repeat Enter/Exit Sleep Mode process to recover.

Section 4: Software
SYMPTOM 1
Cannot update software.
If the problem exists, some memory in the device may be defective or the file in your server may be incomplete or unavailable—
contact your System Administrator or Software Provider.
• The setup procedure is: from Start> Programs, select Update. Input update file name and server IP address before you
update the system; first be sure your device and server are online and close all applications. Do not use battery power
but use the AC-DC adapter instead.
CAUTION
Do not use battery power during device software update; use the AC-DC adapter only.
Do not turn off system during software update.
SYMPTOM 2
The device does not function because it is locked up or power was off accidentally during device software updates.
The device may be recoverable. Contact your service organization or call H-Link.

SYMPTOM 3
Forgot password.
• The password feature, if enabled, does not affect normal usage except when you want to modify personal and
configured information.
• If you need your password, contact your service organization or call H-Link.
SYMPTOM 4
Cannot recover user information or data after restarting the device.
You can save or open files in any folder from the applications as long as your device remains powered on.
• Save files in the FlashStorage2 folder and sub-folders if you want to keep them permanently.
• Data not stored in the FlashStorage2 folder may be lost when you power off the device.
SYMPTOM 5
Cannot read e-mail message in Inbox.
You may not have selected the file type as either POP3 or IMAP4 for reading Inbox e-mail:
• Select the file type for e-mail access.
