I feel like an outstanding leader when I help the little kids, and I feel like I am doing something to help other people!” STUDENT DEMOGRAPHICS WE EDUCATE, WE ENGAGE, WE EMPOWER Heritage Elementary is a public school and home to approximately 340 kindergarten through fourth grade students. Located in Historic Olde Town Pickerington, Ohio, we are housed in the first school building used to educate children in Violet township. We have an ethnically diverse population with 36% of students in need of free/ reduced lunch. We are enrolled to our capacity and often have to be creative with our space around the buildings. Since our school has housed a high school in the past, we are fortunate to have a full-sized gym, cafeteria and an auditorium/ stage with seating for over 530 people. These large spaces allow teachers to go beyond the classroom and use different environments to creatively enhance instruction. Due to the large geographical boundary for our school and the lack of sidewalks in the area, students do not walk to and from school. Most students are bus riders. We have been a Leader in Me school since 2014-2015 school year, and became a Lighthouse school this year! 73.04% 17.39% 3.19% 5.2% 36% 11% 1.2% White Black Hispanic Multi-Racial Economically Disadvantaged Students With Disabilities English Learners “A Leader helps people feel better. Kindergarteners are showing that they are GREAT hallway leaders! Jiji and ST Math The ST Math board helps us track each class’s progress towards completing our ST Math curriculum. We are trying to get Jiji home to Antartica. The sunshine was made to brighten our spirits and our days. The message reminds us to be proactive and that we are in control of our mood. Our Bus Behavior board helps us to remember that great Leadership happens outside of school too! Each time a bus has 5 days of great behavior, they move a mile down the road. At the end of 9 miles, the students earn extra recess! Readers Are Leaders Readers are Leaders is a quiet spot for students in all grades to sit in and read. It is a great way for us to take time and Sharpen Our Saws! Our different scoreboards in the school keep kids focused on our goals. This Math Fluency Scoreboard allows students to move up the stairwell as they pass their tests.
