HISTORY
Our story began more than 35 years ago. Founder Alan Scholz started a small company called Burley Bike Bags and relocated
from Fargo, North Dakota to Eugene, Oregon in search of a cycling-friendly community. The Burley name was inspired by his wife
Beverly, a bicycle racer known as “Burley Bev.” The couple sold their handmade bags at Eugene’s Saturday Market, a 30 mile
commute from their rural home.
Determined to live a car-free life, Alan needed a way to carry his bags and young daughter to the market by bike. Using parts from
an old swing set, he built the first Burley trailer. Local cyclists and bike shops began to notice Alan’s trailer around town, and it
wasn’t long before orders started pouring in. The company built a reputation for high quality products and the name “Burley”
became synonymous with “bicycle trailer.”
Today, Burley is known around the world for building recreational transport gear that sets the standard for safety, durability and
thoughtful design. While we continue to perfect the bicycle trailer that put us on the map, the Burley product portfolio has grown
over time to meet the changing needs of our customers. From multi-functional child, cargo and pet carriers to our award-winning
Solstice jogging stroller, we put our heart and soul into everything we build. The Burley brand stands for unmatched quality
today, just as it did in 1978.

WHAT’S NEW?
SOLSTICE® JOGGING STROLLER EARNS DESIGN ACCOLADES
In 2015 Burley introduced the Solstice jogging stroller, the perfect blend of style and function to help parents explore the outdoors
with their children. With innovative features such as one hand folding, a lockable front swivel wheel, and our Spring-Integrated
Technology™ (S.I.T.) seating to prevent tangled harness straps, the Solstice has been turning heads for its thoughtful design. Burley
was recognized with three major design awards for the Solstice in 2015: The iF (International Forum) Design Award, Red Dot Award,
and Core77 Professional Notable.
For more than 60 years, the iF Design Award has been recognized globally as a label of design excellence. The organization’s
international jury assessed almost 5,000 entries from 53 countries for this year’s awards. The Burley Solstice was entered in the
Product discipline under the Sports/Leisure category. Winners were announced at a ceremony in Hamburg, Germany on February
28, 2015.
The Solstice also won over the 38-member jury of the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2015, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary
this year. The international design experts assessed 4,928 entries from 56 countries and recognized winners in Essen, Germany on
June 28, 2015.
Most recently, the Solstice was awarded a Professional Notable award in the 2015 Core77 Design Awards transportation category.
The Core77 Design Awards recognize excellence in all areas of design and celebrate the richness of the design profession and the
brilliance of its practitioners. The honored designers and projects, including the Burley Solstice, were selected by 14 categoryspecific juries for their innovation and creativity. The five-person transportation jury noted the Solstice for its innovative and
“clever solutions” such as one hand folding technology and the S.I.T.™ seat, which makes it easier for parents to load and unload
children. Said one juror, “I think it’s fantastic...In terms of function it’s definitely a step ahead of where its competitors are today.”
“We are extremely pleased our new Solstice jogging stroller continues to gain acknowledgement in the design community,” said
Burley CEO Michael Coughlin. “Our talented product team really thought through what was lacking in the market in terms of
functionality and came up with a pretty unique solution. We are committed to raising the bar when it comes to innovative design in

CHILD CARRIERS: IMPROVING ON THE BEST
At Burley we’re always looking for ways to improve our products. We never settle,
and we are constantly striving to offer the very best in safety, durability, and
thoughtful design. We believe that the little things can make the biggest difference,
and in 2016 we are excited to introduce several small but impactful improvements
to our line of multi-functional child carriers.
For 2016 our top-of-the-line child carriers, the D’Lite™, Solo™ and Cub®, all feature
the innovative S.I.T.™ (Spring-Integrated Technology) Seat. The Burley S.I.T.
Seat was first introduced on the award-winning Solstice jogging stroller and has
revolutionized how parents get their children in and out of seat harnesses. The
S.I.T.™ Seat , open and closed with straps suspended
seat features springs in each of the connected shoulder and waist belt pads, which
enclose the harness straps and pull them away from the center of the seat, preventing limp straps that often get tangled underneath
the child. The seat is also fully removable and machine-washable.
The 2016 Encore also gets a seat upgrade with removable Deluxe Seat Pads. All 2016 Burley child carriers feature a 5-point harness
that is compatible with the Burley S.I.T. Seat, so it can be purchased separately as an upgrade accessory for the Encore­®, Honey
Bee™ and Bee® models.

SAFETY IS BURLEY’S FIRST PRIORITY
For us, safety isn’t an afterthought, it’s our first thought. Unlike many other products on the market today, ours are tested in-house
during the earliest design phases to ensure that safety and reliability are built in from the beginning. We’ve developed testing
protocols that are the toughest out there. We think your children are worth it.
THE BURLEY STANDARD
Every Burley child trailer and stroller also receives external testing to ensure
the safe travel of your most precious cargo. All Burley child trailers and strollers
meet or exceed the ASTM F1975-09 and ASTM F833-13b standards for bicycle
child trailers and strollers respectively. In fact, Burley was one of the first to
advocate for these minimum safety standards for our industry. Today, we work
continuously to improve and exceed them.
THE TESTS
At Burley we don’t just meet the minimum. We have pushed our safety and durability testing to the limit. Up to 5x the ASTM standard.
That’s why you see Burley trailers on the road after decades of use.
Burley’s Push Pull Test simulates a stop and go
motion for more than 500,000 cycles to make sure
that the hitch and frame will last.
Burley’s Drum Test simulates the trailer going over a
bump 25,000 times to make sure the axle
and frame remain strong.
Additional Tests Include:
Drop Test: Puts the child restraint system under extreme stress by dropping the carrier on its nose from a suspended height of 3.9
ft (1.2 m)
Crush Test: Simulates force applied to carrier frame in a rollover to ensure structural integrity in a worst-case scenario
Rollover Test: Verifies that the center of gravity is low enough to withstand hard cornering or hitting an obstacle with one wheel
Curb Test: Ensures products with a front fork can withstand sudden impact
Chemical Testing: Products are tested for more than 25 potentially harmful chemicals and substances
Flammability Test: Fabrics are tested to minimize risk of surface flash

SAFETY FEATURES AND TECHNOLOGY
Burley child carriers are designed from the ground up with safety in mind. The foundation of every child carrier is a full aluminum
roll cage for protection in the event of an accident.
The roll cage is constructed with heat treated aluminum and uses glass reinforced nylon plastics at key connection points. Side
battens create a structured barrier between passengers and wheels, and provide abrasion resistance if rollover occurs. Child carriers
with stroller kit compatibility also feature a handlebar that doubles as a second roll bar when folded forward in biking mode.
