They also make appearances for pep rallies at Our Lady of Consolation and St. Michael Catholic Schools. The band had a pre-band camp rehearsal July 19 and 21 and full band camp from July 25-29 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. They rehearse every Wednesday night from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and two to three times per week during the school day. John Schindler serves as assistant director, and the auxiliaries advisors are Heidi Kauffman and Michele Johnson. The band performs at all home and away football games, the Fostoria Halloween and Holiday parades, at various school and community activities, and concludes the year on November 1 with their Half-Time in Review Concert in the Wainwright Performing Arts Center at Fostoria High School. This year, the band will be performing six halftime shows, a new show for every home football game. This year’s shows feature the music of Earth, Wind, and Fire, Music from the Movies, the annual Salute to America, and more. This year’s salute to America show will be the 10th anniversary, and the Redmen Pride will welcome their alumni band members that week. The band will also welcome future members of the Redmen Pride on October 7 for Jr. High night. Band camp was conducted from August 1-5 at FHS from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. There were summer sessions twice a week throughout June and July, and the band rehearses daily during class and Monday and Thursday evenings. Maria Ziegman is the drum major. The band earned a I rating at state competition in 2010. It performs at all football games and at selected OMEA marching band competitions. Brinkman is assisted by Josh Barringer, Jason Luthy and Nick Mickley. Crystal Williams is the visual ensemble instructor, Alvin Dawson is the percussion instructor and Jose Centeno is the senior field commander. The band performs in the Wood County, Pemberville Free Fair, Northwest Ohio Volunteer Fireman’s Association and Bloomdale Halloween parades. They also perform at the Wayne and Jerry City Memorial Day events. On Nov. 3 the band will perform a Sounds of the Stadium Concert at 7 p.m. in the Elmwood High School auditeria. In April the band will take part in the 2012 Azalea/NATO Fest parade in Richmond, Va. The band had their band camp at Elmwood High School the week of July 22 from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily. They also rehearse after school Monday and Wednesday for an hour. They have performed for five different United States Presidents and for college football bowl games, including the Liberty Bowl in Memphis, Tennessee, the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, Louisiana, and the Outback Bowl in Tampa, Florida. The band has also performed in such internationally-televised parades as the Hollywood Christmas Parade in California and the Orlando Citrus Parade in Florida, as well as performances at the Hollywood Bowl, Disneyland, Walt Disney World, and Universal Studios. The FTMB participated for the first time in school history in the Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) State Marching Band Finals in 1999 and again in 2000 and 2003-2010. Other performances include several local parades, adjudicated events, and all FHS varsity football games. This year’s program is entitled “88 Keys”, designed by Chad Clum and featuring percussion arrangements by Justin Fujka. Billy Joel’s “Piano Man” features senior drum major Mikayla Brown on the piano. “Fur Elise” is an exciting arrangement of one of Ludwig van Beethoven’s most beloved compositions. “Clair De Lune”, which is French for “moonlight”, is a wellknown piece by Claude Debussy. The conclusion of the performance is introduced by senior drum major Shelby Fletcher on the Bb clarinet; the George Gershwin classic, “Rhapsody In Blue”. The Findlay Trojan Marching Band is under the direction of Tim Mattis. Assistant directors are Brian Sheehe and Michael Springer. Percussion Instructors are Justin Fujka, Brandon Agin, and Dan Eakin. The band participates in several parades including Bradner Day in the Park, Fostoria Halloween Parade, Bradner and Risingsun Halloween Parades, Fostoria Holiday Parade, Genoa Homecoming Parade and Memorial Day Parades and Concerts. At the end of the marching season the band has a concert where they play all of their half-time and pre-game shows and many stand tunes. The band camp location varies, but this year it was held in the new school building from Aug. 15-19 from 9 a.m.3 p.m. At the camp they learned all of the pre-game, the first show and many stand tunes. The band performs a halftime performance with Mohawk High School Marching Band and at the Tiffin Halloween Parade, New Riegel Halloween Parade, Fostoria Halloween Parade, Fostoria Holiday Parade, Tiffin Christmas Parade, New Riegel Memorial Day Parade, Bascom Memorial Day Parade and Cedar Point. The band performs at all football games, the Heritage Festival Parade, the Developmental Center Halloween Parade, the Tiffin Holiday Parade and the Memorial Day Parade. During the summer, the band worked for two weeks in band camp at Calvert, practicing twice each day during the camp. Their 2011-2012 performance schedule includes the Tiffin Parks and Recreation Summer Splash concert, Commodore Perry Put-In-Bay parade, Tiffin University/ Tiffin Columbian Marching Band Festival on Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. in the Tiffin Columbian stadium, the Cedar Point Halloweekend parade, Tiffin Columbian Sounds of the Stadium concert on Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. in the gymnasium, the Tiffin Holiday parade and the Tiffin Memorial Day parade. Kathy Wisner is the majorette advisor. The band performs at all football games, the Hancock County Fair and various parades in Vanlue. The band traveled to Chicago last year for a weekend full of cultural activities. Vanlue’s band camp was conducted Aug. 15-19, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day. The band practices twice a week after school during the marching season.
