WELCOME TO THE
INTERPRIDE 2015
CONFERENCE

ALOHA!
I remember attending my first InterPride
in Long Beach back in 2010, it was
myself and the rest of our Executive
Board all attending the conference for
the first time. I remember all of us saying, “We need to host this event,” and
“people would love to come to Vegas.”
Our dream became a reality at the
2013 Montreal Canada AGM when the
InterPride membership voted “yes” and
Las Vegas PRIDE was given the honor to
host InterPride AGM 2015.
After many hours of planning, thousands of emails, endless meetings and
more, here we are, InterPride 2015. What
a wild and crazy journey it has been.
Of course, none of the executive officers that wanted to host InterPride with
me back at the conference in Long
Beach were still serving on the board to
help, ha ha.
Welcome to Las Vegas! I hope you had
safe travels and are well rested; we all
worked very hard planning this 4-day
conference just for you. Thank you to
the board of InterPride for all of your
help and guidance. To Sue and Brett,
thank you for being great leaders. To
the CSIC Co-Chairs Dave and Emilio,
thank you for all your help and support.
It takes a very strong team to do this
every year, my team and I have learned
a lot.
Mahalo (“Thank You”) to the board of
directors of Southern Nevada Association of PRIDE, Inc. for all of their love,
support and hard work. Organizing
an InterPride AGM is not easy, it has its
challenges, but we are all here for the
same purpose and understand the
drive behind what we do. It’s a thankless job, but we would do it again if
asked to do so.
Sponsors: this event would not have
been possible without the commitment
and support from our sponsors, thank
you for all that you do and for supporting our vision and providing funding/
resources to help this conference come
to life. Also, a very big thank you to our
host Alexis Park All-Suite Resort.
I hope you get to reunite with old
friends and have a chance to make a
couple of new ones as well. Now is our
chance to network with one another
and share our knowledge and experiences. I remember what my old boss
Steve Wynn told me when I first moved
to Las Vegas 15 years ago, during a
conversation after a grand opening
meeting, “Ernie you’re only going to get
out of your experience what you put
into it, you should always give 110%”...
he was right.
Enjoy yourselves, be safe, have a great
time and be nice to one another.
In Pride!
Ernie “Pineapple” Yuen
Executive Director

OCTOBER 16TH
TIME MANAGEMENT FOR THE
BUSY PROFESSIONAL
ATHENA BALLROOM - 8:30 AM
Presented by Greg J. Chase, Director of
Guest Experience, New York New York
Hotel & Casino
Time management training most often
begins with setting goals. These goals
are recorded and may be broken down
into a project, an action plan, or a
simple task list. Activities are then rated
based on urgency and importance,
priorities assigned, and deadlines set.
This process results in a plan with a task
list or calendar of activities. This entire
process is supported by a skill set that
should include personal motivation,
delegation skills, organization tools, and
crisis management.
CHANGING TRENDS IN SEO
ZEUS A - 8:30 AM
Presented by Heather Brown, Owner /
CEO, Cultural Sponge
SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is the
process of ranking your website high on
the result list of a search engine, thus
increasing the number of visitors to your
website. This class takes the intimidation out of SEO. As trends change on
the internet, search engines change
the way they optimize your website.
Find out what search engines consider
important and changes you can make
to improve your website ranking.
HOW TO CREATE YOUR FIRST
PRIDE GUIDE
ZEUS B - 8:30 AM
Presented by Sylvain Bruni, President,
Boston Pride
In 2015, Boston Pride created our very
own and very first Boston Pride Guide.
Learn from our journey: from assembling a team to building a budget, from
securing advertisers to recruiting con-
tributors, from negotiating printing contracts to organizing distribution… we
will tell you what our experience was,
what mistakes we made (and learned
from!). We will discuss how you too can
take the leap… and generate revenue
for your organization while providing a
great service to your community. Don’t
forget to bring your current Pride Guide
to the workshop!
FIRST COMES LOVE: PORTRAITS OF ENDURING LGBTQ
RELATIONSHIPS
PARTHENON 1 & 2 - 8:30 AM

Photography
This lecture provides a source of joy
and affirmation to the members of our
community and may be educational for you as well. We will discuss this
project and book focusing on the real
stories of the LGBTQ community and
not the legal march through the courts.
It speaks of our day-to-day lives. It also
provides hope to the younger generation that they can have long-lasting
relationships.
will learn from case studies of LA Pride
and Flagstaff Pride and discover how
to put the Flavorus full-service ticketing
platform to work for your organization.

3-step checkout; mobile box offices;
Facebook ticketing; RFID & Mag Cards;
and private label, custom solutions. You
will also discover how Flavorus can help
you increase your marketing reach via
event syndication.
INTRODUCTION TO PRIDE
MOBILE APP TECHNOLOGY
ZEUS C - 1:50 PM
Presented by Lee Castoro, Marketing
& Communications Director of Edge
Publications & Pride Labs
In this introductory workshop, we will
cover the basics of getting started,
what exactly the mobile app development process entails, the time frame for
development and also some key technology features that our Pride app partners utilize and love. There are countless
benefits to integrating a mobile app
into your technology portfolio, and we’ll
be covering many of those benefits!
During this informative and easy to
understand introductory course we will
be running live demos and will be more
than happy to answer questions from
the audience!
THE EVOLUTION OF THE PRIDE
FESTIVAL: FROM COMMUNITY
EVENT TO REVENUE-GENERATING FESTIVAL
PARTHENON 3 & 4 - 12:30 PM
TRANSGENDER 101
Presented by Jeff Consoletti, Founder &
ZEUS A - 1:50 PM

collaboration between festival production experts that organizations can lean
on as a means to grow their events in
audience size and overall revenue. Festival Production Team JJ|LA, ticketing
powerhouse Flavorus, and innovative
concessionaire DLS Events, discuss how
their partnership and services have
sparked new revenue driving opportunities for the PRIDE Event. Something
that your event might benefit from!

for organizers and attendees when
not done right. In this workshop, you
Presented by Holly Reese, Senior and
Transgender Programs Manager, The
LGBTQ Center - Las Vegas
Participants can expect to leave the
workshop with an understanding of
what is means to identify as a transgender person, as well as learning what
vocabulary is friendly and what is offensive, in the effort to build understanding
and bridge gaps in our community.
USING SURVEYS TO GROW
YOUR EVENT
ZEUS B - 1:50 PM
Presented by Jake Naylor, Event Consultant and Past Las Vegas PRIDE President
Surveys are an often overlooked source
of information vital to both the improvement of your event, and its continued
growth. During this workshop, you will
2015 INTERPRIDE AGM & CONFERENCE 17
learn the importance of surveys, when
& where they are appropriate/most
successful, and why they are so valuable. You will also discuss what types of
questions are most valuable and how
to turn that information into greater
event successes year after year.
Asking the right questions will not only
help you improve your next event, but
may also help you land that new sponsor, or gain greater sponsorship from
your existing sponsors.
VOLUNTEER RECRUITMENT &
RETENTION
PARTHENON 1 & 2 - 1:50 PM
Presented by Dave Wait, Chair, Motor
City Pride
Panel discussion on the topic of volunteer recruitment and retention.
HEALTHY PRIDE – HOW NOT
TO BE FRIED BY YOUR
BIGGEST EVENT
ATHENA BALLROOM - 3:10 PM
Presented by: Sherri Rase, Urban Telegraph; Malcolm Carey, Boston Pride;
Chad Phillips, Capital Pride Alliance
Are you Fried by Pride? Every year we
are committed to our events – big or
small, we make them all! And at the
end of Pride Season, most of us feel like
we’ve been ridden hard and put up
wet. Healthy Pride will help you perform at peak even if you’re not in peak
physique. There are three aspects to the
better self care that makes a more effective Pride organizer – sleep, exercise
and proper nutrition. If you’re like most
of us, then you take better care of your
volunteers than you do yourself. Treat
yourself like family and go further, faster
with no more “Pride Hangover”. Chad,
Malcolm and Sherr will show you how
it’s done.
PRIDE MOBILE APP TECHNOLOGY FEATURES & LIVE DEMOS
ZEUS C - 3:10 PM
Presented by David Foucher, CEO and
Publisher of Edge Publications & Pride
Labs

company Edge Media Network, is the
largest LGBT media platform in the
world, reaching 3 million+ people via
native mobile apps. We’re the official
technology provider for InterPride and
hundreds of other Pride/LGBT organizations. For our intermediate workshop
(following the introductory workshop)
We will focus more on the technicalities
of mobile apps and some of our exciting advanced features.
BUT... WE ARE ALWAYS AT THE
BACK: SETTING YOUR PARADE
LINE-UP
PARTHENON 1 & 2 - 3:10 PM
Marsha Levine, San Francisco Pride
Parade Manager & InterPride Founder
Putting together a Parade line-up can
be done several ways — which one will
work best for you and your community?
Parade veterans Marsha H. Levine (San
Francisco Pride) and David Studinski
(NYC Pride) will review scalable methods used that any committee can
adopt.
PRIVILEGE WALK
PARTHENON 5 - 3:10 PM
Presented by Shannon Lank- Board
Chair Phoenix Pride
Privilege surrounds us every day in ways
that we sometimes do not recognize.
Societal identifiers placed on us as
children have a lasting effect into adulthood often unconsciously. Through
this interactive and participant driven
workshop we will explore how those
identifiers have shaped us individually
and our society. Understanding how
our own personal privilege has shaped
us can help us individually and collectively learn how to best navigate
societal change.
SUCCESSFUL LGBTI HUMAN
RIGHTS STRATEGIES WITHIN
PRIDE
ZEUS B - 3:10 PM
Presented by Frank van Dalen, Pride
United
Human Rights have become increasingly important within InterPride. Many
prides, big and small, are trying to find
ways to include human rights programs. A debate, exhibition or movies
are tools to fulfill this objective. But how
not only to inform the public, but also
to have impact on the legal or social
climate regarding LGBTI themes on
the local or international level? In this
workshop van Dalen will share do’s and
don’ts in order to set up a successful
LGBTI Human Rights strategy within the
pride program. Extra attention is paid
on how to include visitors of a pride,
how to create media-visibility and how
to get connection with politicians and
make them act in order to obtain results. Meaningful international solidarity
is also a topic.
OCTOBER 17TH
PRIDE RADAR 2015
ATHENA BALLROOM - 8:30 AM
Presented by Frank van Dalen – Pride
United & Michele Irimia – NYC Pride
Pride Radar is the flagship report from
InterPride showcasing hundreds of
prides around the world. The first report
was published in 2012 and in 2014 a
draft was presented for the second
report to be published in 2015 in Las
Vegas. A global survey amongst pride
organizers will be added to the report,
uncovering worldwide trends within
the global community of prides. In the
workshop the second Pride Radar will
be discussed in depth. While discussing
the report and the outcomes we try
to answer the question what a global
pride movement is and needs to develop further. Can we identify key factors
for success and how should success be
measured. The challenges for the future
of a sustainable pride movement will
be brought to the table as well.
PARTNER FOR SUCCESS
ZEUS C - 8:30 AM
Presented by Jake Naylor, Las Vegas
PRIDE Sponsor and Past Las Vegas
PRIDE President
Recruiting sponsors for your event can
be a daunting task. During the first half
of this workshop, you will learn about
both the unique power of sponsorship and the difference between bad,
good, and great sponsorship. You will
also learn how to prepare yourself for
success including creating policies,
strategies, resources, tools, contracts,
and how to leverage successful sponsorships for your organization. In the
second half of this workshop, you will
take a look at sponsorship from the
sponsor’s perspective. You will discuss
18 2015 INTERPRIDE AGM & CONFERENCE
expectations and how to ensure your
sponsors view their dollars as well
spent. You will also learn about the
importance of following up with your
sponsors after-the-fact to retain them for
future events.
MISOGYNY & MISANDRY:
NO PLACE IN THE LGBT
COMMUNITY
ZEUS C - 9:50 AM
TIME MANAGEMENT, PRIORITIES, AND PROCRASTINATION
ZEUS A - 8:30 AM
Misogyny is the hatred or dislike of
women or girls. As activists in the
LGBT+ community, we don’t tolerate
misogynistic behavior within our ranks.
We acknowledge the hard work and
successes of LGBT+ women. They were
pioneers in the gay rights movement,
as well as the fight against HIV/AIDS. Of
course, that doesn’t mean that there
aren’t misogynistic behavior within our
community from time to time, but as
whole we find it unacceptable.
Presented by Shannon Lank, Phoenix
Pride Board Chair
Stressed out? Can’t figure out where
to start on your ‘to do’ list? Find yourself getting things done but not the
ones you want? It’s because of how
your brain works. In this workshop we’ll
explore how to trick your brain into
making better decisions. Learn why
long meetings don’t work well. Figure
out your procrastination type and how
to work it instead of against it, which in
turn will help make you more productive in your every day life.
ESTABLISHING A PRODUCTION PARTNERSHIP WITH
YOUR VENDORS
ZEUS B - 8:30 AM
Presented by Randy Arnold, Barefoot
Ambassador & Joe Gonzales, National Multicultural Marketing Manager,
Barefoot
With over 25 years of support for the
LGBT community, Barefoot has sponsored over 1,000 LGBT events since
2009. We’re the wine sponsor for InterPride and hundreds of other Pride/LGBT
organizations from all over the world!
For our introductory workshop we will
talk about what makes a winning
vendor partnership (domestic and
internationally) with a Pride. During this
informative and easy to understand introductory course we will walk you step
by step on how to begin a partnership
with a vendor, what you will need to begin, how to link and leverage your event
and have fun while doing it. We will be
more than happy to answer questions
from the audience!
FESTIVAL SECURITY
PARTHENON 1 & 2 - 8:30 AM
This workshop session will be an open
forum / panel discussion regarding
pride festival security.
Presented by Richard Bell, President,
Santa Fe Human Rights Alliance
Misandry, the dislike of, contempt for,
or ingrained prejudice against men
(i.e., the male sex) hasn’t been taken
as seriously. We see this manifested in
sexual discrimination, belittling of men,
and sexual objectification of men. Our
greatest successes as a community
have come by working together to accomplish our goals. Now is not the time
to revert to divisiveness.
TRANSGENDER INCLUSION
ATHENA BALLROOM - 9:50 AM
Presented by Jeremy L. Wallace, Author
Pride events have always been about
celebrating the triumphs and uniqueness of the LGBT community, however,
fully including the “T” in the celebration
has been challenging, leaving many in
the Trans community feeling left out or
invisible. This workshop will explore past
& current challenges, as well as best
practices in embracing and fully including the Trans population, creating an
atmosphere of Pride in the entire LGBT
spectrum.
FIERTÉ CANADA /
CANADA PRIDE
ZEUS B - 9:50 AM
there will be an open discussion and
interaction with the audience in order
to brainstorm and receive other Pride
organization’s impressions.
LEVERAGING TECHNOLOGY

PARTHENON 1 & 2 - 9:50 AM
Presented by Scott Shuemake, Event

Platform Manager
IDK Events, LLC is the platform powering the vendor and parade sales and
support for some of the largest prides in
the US and Canada; Including Toronto

we will help attendees leverage technology to drive parade and exhibitor
revenue. Additionally, we will provide a
hands on demonstration of our software and include some success stories.
We will also have an opportunity for
questions.
MY POINT OF VIEW – A PRIDE
FESTIVAL VENDOR
ZEUS A - 9:50 AM
Presented by Steven Hannestad, We The
People Clothing
Review the pros and cons of being a
Pride Festival vendor, and discuss how
vendors plan for an event, the importance of accurate website information,
and where all of the LGBT vendors have
gone. We will also discuss the differences between for profit and non-profit
vendors and festival layout from a
vendor’s perspective. Have you considered how your sponsor’s booths affect
your vendor’s bottom lines? We will also
review vendor on vendor wars while
sharing our history attending many
Pride Festivals.

Presented by Dori Shields, Executive
Vice President of the Casswood Insurance Agency
The Casswood Insurance Agency has
been associated with InterPride since
its founding days in Boston and continues as proud sponsor of the InterPride
Insurance Program, one of the longest
running member benefits of InterPride
membership. This Insurance workshop
will cover two areas of interest to Pride
event planners: 1. Don’t Gamble With
Your Bottom Line...Event Cancellation &
Weather Insurance. 2. Don’t Shoot The
Messenger...Literally! An Overview of
the Pride Claims of 2015
CROWD FUNDING: BUILDING
COMMUNITY. RAISING FUNDS
ZEUS A - 11:10 AM
Presented by Laura Pople, PresidentJersey Pride & Executive Director of Seer
Farms
Crowd funding campaigns put fabulous ideas in front of thousands of people and help raise money and build
community around those ideas. Pride
committees often struggle to raise the
funds needed to produce their events.
Crowd funding provides a supplemental strategy to the reliance on corporate
donations, admission fees, and other
funding streams that prides have relied
on in the past.
PRIDE UNDER ATTACK: HOW
INTERPRIDE CAN HELP
ZEUS B - 11:10 AM
Presented by Sylvain Bruni, Boston Pride
In the last two years, many Prides have
been under attack from within our own
community: protests by #BlackLivesMatter (in Boston and Chicago), complaints about being too political (in
Vancouver and London) or not enough
(in Glasgow and Albuquerque), and
how to measure the success of your
revolts against entertainment selection
(in Pittsburgh). As a network of Pride or- campaigns and determine your best
ganizations, we can certainly learn from strategies.
one another how to anticipate, prepare
for and respond to these events.

PARTHENON 1 & 2 - 11:10 AM
Dot Belstler, Executive Director, Twin
Cities Pride
Dot’s background working as Sponsorship Consultant for a major firm gives
Dot some “inside knowledge” on what
companies are looking for in a sponsorship. You don’t have to have a “Cookie

work best for most companies.

Presented by James Hermansen-Parker,
Regional Director – Region 5 & Dustin
Brookshire, Regional Director – Region 5
The resolution information workshop will
answer questions members may have
regarding the voting process, any bylaw revisions coming before the membership and any resolutions that have
been presented by member organizations to be voted on by the entire voting
body at the Annual General Meeting
and World Conference.

years are struggling with the question
how to stay relevant. Frank van Dalen

to innovate their prides and develop
strategies to strengthen their relevance
towards their own community as well as
the society as a whole.
