horizons foundation’s QGiving Guide Your LGBT Community | Your LGBT Foundation Did You Know? About the QGiving Guide • Less than 5% of LGBT people in the Bay Area make donations to LGBT causes. • Tens of thousands of people depend on our community nonprofits for support, assistance, care, and advocacy. For LGBT youth, elders, and many others, those programs can be life-saving. • 96% of Bay Area LGBT nonprofits report being harmed by the economic crisis, and support from government and foundation sources has plummeted. • Research shows that giving makes people happier. • The LGBT community needs YOU! The QGiving Guide is designed to help you learn more about the LGBT organizations doing important work here in the Bay Area— and to encourage you to give. All organizations have very brief descriptions; you can find out more on their websites. We have arranged the organizations by general categories, though some groups could easily fit under more than one area. Your gifts, large or small, to whatever organizations or causes you’re passionate about, make a difference. Thank you for your generosity and for helping build a strong, enduring, and compassionate LGBT community—for all of us. From civil rights to music, social activities to violence prevention, there’s a community organization that needs your help—and LGBT people who depend on its work. About Horizons Foundation Horizons Foundation fuels the LGBT movement by increasing support for diverse San Francisco Bay Area nonprofits that help thousands of people each day. Our work strengthens organizations and their leaders, mobilizes donors and funders to inspire giving, and actively secures our LGBT community’s future for generations to come. To learn more, visit www.horizonsfoundation.org. Horizons Foundation’s QGiving Guide is not affiliated with Qgiv, Inc. horizons foundation horizons foundation’s While Horizons Foundation has cast as wide a net as possible in creating this guide, our list may not be exhaustive—please let us know of any Bay Area LGBT nonprofits not mentioned! Please note that in an effort to concentrate on organizations with a strong LGBT focus, we have not included some wonderful groups that serve LGBT people as part of their general programs (for example, some HIV/AIDS organizations). We are grateful to all organizations working on behalf of LGBT people in the Bay Area.
