Message from the President
To all of our alumni, benefactors and friends:
Grazie. Arigato. Danke. Merci. Mahalo. Salamat.
No matter the language, it all means the same thing: “Thank you!” An expression of
thanks can take many forms: a bear hug, a wide grin, a greeting card, or a shriek of
delight are just a few of the ways that reflect one’s gratitude and appreciation for a
gift or a kind deed.
We ourselves
feel that what
we are doing
is just a drop
in the ocean.
But the ocean
would be less
because of that
missing drop.

I speak on behalf of everyone at Villa Maria in saying “Thank you” to all of our
friends and benefactors, especially those listed within the pages of this year’s
Advancement Review. I can assure you that the generosity of these various
people, businesses and organizations have given thankful grins to many people
here at Villa Maria – and perhaps even some shrieks of delight. However, one of
the most meaningful ways that we as a school have demonstrated our thanks
to our benefactors is reflected in the way that their gifts to the school are being
used to further the school’s mission and how those gifts have made a meaningful
difference in the lives of our students.
Because our mission has always been to provide the best possible college
preparatory Catholic education to our students without charging a tuition that
is inaccessible for our families, the contributions of our benefactors are vital in
making a Villa education possible for our students. The reality is that many of our
students would not be able to obtain a Villa education were it not for the generous
support of our benefactors. In addition, such generosity has enabled the school to
provide challenging academic and co-curricular programs, state-of-the-art facilities
and technology, and to attract and retain a dedicated and highly competent faculty
and staff. Our benefactors can be assured that their gifts to the school are used to their highest potential by the investment that is made in the lives of our
students, which means that their gifts change lives and prepare our students well for college and for life.
By partnering with Villa Maria through their generosity, our benefactors ensure that the school continues its mission and that our students have
opportunities for a bright and meaningful future.
And so I again say “THANK YOU” to the many people, businesses and organizations listed in this year’s Annual Review. You are indeed making a difference in
the lives of our students and in our future. May God bless you for your generosity and support!

received by Villa Maria Academy between July 1, 2010 and June 30,
2011. The Fund for Villa Maria Academy consists of unrestricted
annual gifts and is the cornerstone of philanthropic giving at Villa,
representing the affirmation and commitment of those listed to the
mission of Villa Maria Academy. The Advancement Review gives Villa
the opportunity to publicly acknowledge the donors who have actively
expressed their support. The students, faculty, administration, and
alumni of Villa are truly indebted to all our benefactors through the
years who have made a

Mission-Passion-Vision: The Campaign for Villa Maria Academy
I
t was another busy summer
at Villa Maria Academy!!
The aggressive renovation
project that is being funded
by “Mission-PassionVision: The Campaign for
Villa Maria Academy”
continues to move along full
steam ahead. Phase I of the
project was completed in
March of 2011 and included
renovations to the basement
corridor, creation of a first
floor chapel, conference
room, gathering space,
gymnasium renovation and
a second floor state-of-theart fitness center. Phase II
commenced in June 2011, and
this phase began with a first
floor makeover including
new ceiling, new lighting,
new doors and a fresh coat
of paint in the corridor,
two brand new classrooms
and renovations and
reconfiguration of the main
office. Phase II also included
the installation of new
lockers on the second floor
(in order to accommodate
increased enrollment) and a
breathtaking transformation
of the auditorium. The audi
now has new lighting, new
curtains, new carpeting, new
seats (in Villa blue!) and fresh
paint.
All of these capital
improvements have been
made possible by the
generosity of those who have
chosen to participate in the
“Mission-Passion-Vision”
campaign. There are high
hopes to move to Phase III next
summer, which would include
renovation to the corridor
and classrooms on the second
floor. As always, this phase is
dependent upon the necessary
resources to move forward.

The Villa Maria Academy
Scholarship Fund is a product
of Pennsylvania’s Education
Improvement Tax Credit
Program. This is a program
that allows businesses to
direct their Pennsylvania
taxes to a scholarship fund
by receiving tax credits up
to 90%. VMA has been an
approved scholarship fund for
the last several years and we’ve
realized tremendous growth in
the program. The Villa Maria
Academy Scholarship Fund
received $88,750.00 in financial
aid from area businesses,
which was distributed to
approximately 33 families who
qualified for the program. We
are extremely grateful to the
following businesses who have
so generously participated
in Pennsylvania’s Tax Credit
Program by re-directing their
tax dollars to the Villa Maria
Academy Scholarship Fund.
