Marie, Community Services Department, Recreation & Culture Division, operates and staffs both Senior Citizens' Centres. The Mandate of Seniors' Services is to provide the opportunity for persons age 55 years or over to participate in meaningful leisure pursuits and to provide services that address the needs of older adults as they relate to information, communication and recreation in facilities that are friendly, clean and safe. Club 119 is affiliated with the United Seniors Citizens of Ontario. The U.S.C.O. provides information, education and advocacy on behalf of Older Adults in Ontario. The membership year is September 2016 to August 2017. Memberships are $4.00 each and are sold during office hours from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. If you have a membership with any other club affiliated with the U.S.C.O. your membership dues are $2.00 each. There are many programs that are planned for your enjoyment by the Club. Club 119 supports the Senior Citizens Advisory Council and assists financially with the purchase of equipment and the operation of programs at the Seniors Citizens Drop-In Centre. This is a great class for the beginner to learn how to photo scrap book. Experienced scrap bookers also really enjoy these classes. Pens and cutting tools are supplied. Marion will then show how the added feature of needle felting will help to complete this project. Your charm is made using colorful beads, wire and can have a decorative bead. You can also make your wicked women charm into a necklace or brouche. Judy will provide you with step by step instruction to complete the basket. Quilting Almost Paradise Quilt Date: Mondays. October 17th and 24th Time: 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Cost: $10.00 plus supplies Duration: 2 days Instructor: Jennifer Freiburger This quilt is made using jewel-tone colours of the earth, sea and sky on a white or light coloured background fabric, or colour combination of your choice. It is constructed of 17 ½” blocks and works up into a full size quilt at 72 x 90”. Skill level easy to intermediate, some sewing experience is necessary. Quilt size can easily be changed by increasing or decreasing the number of blocks. Rice paper will be supplied. Please bring a picture or two of flowers or a scene you would like to paint, as well as any pictures of people that do not require a great deal of detail. Alcohol Ink is a very fluid unconventional medium with the look of stained glass. Come out and enjoy taking this course. 9 SENIOR CITIZENS' DROP-IN CENTRE ARTS & CRAFTS Painting Watercolurs with Nancy Date: Friday, November 18th Time: 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Cost: $10.00 plus supplies Instructor: Nancy Caldwell You will explore the use of a painting pen called Elegant Writer .Required for the class is a picture lightly drawn or bring one to sketch. Subject matter is your choice. You’ll use the pen to draw on your subject after sketching it, or if you are able to draw directly with the Elegant Writer. Since it is a full day, bring your acrylic squeeze bottle with you and we’ll also investigate using it to draw/paint an animal. Dogs are easy to depict especially if they are the terrier type, curly haired or shaggy faced. Come again to try another method of expressing yourself. . This machine appliqued and sewn project is good for Christmas or winter depending on your colour choice. This project is suitable for a confident beginner or experienced sewer. You will paint a simple winter scene using paints and markers. This glass ball will make a great addition to any tree or hung on its own for display. This club is comprised of a full slate of Executive members and is an active group. Our membership year is September 2016 to August 2017. Memberships are $4.00 per year and are sold during regular office hours and Wednesday Card Evenings. If you have a membership with any other club affiliated with the U.S.C.O. your membership dues are $2.00 per year. Club 235 assists financially with the purchase of equipment and the operation of programs at the Steelton Centre, as well as, hosting several special events throughout the year. Club 235 Executive Meetings generally occur on the second Tuesday of each month at 10:30 a.m. and all members are welcome to attend.
