Headlining: John Cooper Clarke, Daniel Kitson, John Bramwell, Tracey Thorn, June Tabor and Simon Armitage. There are even Festivals within the Festival: YHBAF celebrates local youth culture, and Uncanny Valley presents an animation fest. There’s a salon style art trail, pop up poet, a global warming bike ride, a Coiners run with Boff Whalley, new drama from Hebden Shorts and Red Ladder and we bring Hebden to life with two days of superb street entertainment including Sketch-O-Matic and Jude Wadley’s epic Wonderwear bunting ! Box Office The Box Office is at Hebden Bridge Town Hall and will be open daily from 8 June 10-4 (Mon-Sat) 12-4 (Sun). Outside these hours tickets are available online at www. hebdenbridgeartsfestival.co.uk. (There will be a charge for online booking, levied by the e-ticketing provider.) NB we do not accept telephone bookings. • Tickets cannot be reserved without payment or exchanged/refunded except in the event of a show cancellation. • HBAF reserves the right to refuse admission to latecomers. • There are no numbered seats at any event and seating at the Trades Club is not guaranteed. • Concessions apply to full-time students, the unemployed, disabled visitors (+ 1 helper), senior citizens and children U16. Town Hall 22-30 June (Mon-Sun 10am-5pm) Free Shining a light in dark places, artists Blaffert/Wamhof photograph ex-British army bases in Germany whilst David Gledhill paints a family to life from a found photograph album. Artists include: brook & black, Keiko Kanda, Wanda Bernadino, Andrew Beck. Sound installations from Hibernate Records and Frame Missing + live soundtrack for flooded piano. Uncanny Valley - Animation Workshop 22 & 23 June Town Hall 2pm-5pm (7+) (20 places) £3 Delivered by artists Vincent James & Sam McLoughlin, this zoetrope workshop explores the roots of animation with a practical hands-on session. St George’s Square, wavy duck steps, marina, Town Hall courtyard and Market Street 12 - 4pm Free A feast of entertainment from some of the UK’s best street acts topped off with a dollop of local talent too. Uncle Tacko’s Flea Circus, Maynard Flip Flap, the Spurting Man and the return of the Grannies! Harpists, violinists, choirs, hot flamenco and lots more. Simon Armitage: Wordstones Town Hall 2.30pm Free Wordstones is a new trail along the Calder Valley, bearing words from young writers, carved by stone artist Pip Hall. This special event will feature a short reading from In Memory of Water by Simon Armitage and some of Calderdale’s finest young writers. Victorian magicians Morgan and West present a magical extravaganza: dazzling deceptions, and a genuine ability to travel through time. Ian McMillan + Luke Carver Goss Trades Club Doors 8pm £12.50(£10) Poet, broadcaster & comedian Ian McMillan and Olympic composer Luke Carver Goss present a hilarious night of poems, music & improv. Red Ladder Theatre presents: Wrong ‘Un Hebden Bridge Little Theatre Doors 7.30pm £10(£8) A one-woman suffragette musical written by Boff Whalley of Chumbawamba. A story in drama and song of class, torture and war in Edwardian England performed by Eliza Harris. Uncanny Valley – launch screening King Kong (1933) PG Town Hall 6pm Free Join us for the launch of animation festival Uncanny Valley. The programme kicks off with the iconic stopmotion masterpiece King Kong. Special effects artist Willis O’Brien created the animation for the film and inspired a generation of monster movies. Tuesday 25 June Leslie Woodhead - How the Beatles Rocked the Kremlin Town Hall 6pm £5 Award-winning documentary film maker Leslie Woodhead talks about the Beatles in Russia. The event will feature clips from his work including his new film about the Kennedy assassination. Bettakultcha Trades Club Doors 7.30pm £5 Bettakultcha is a Powerpoint with a difference as performers use up to 15 slides to tell their story in a fun and quirky way. Open to anyone. All you need is a laptop and some imagination....
