Most of the tapes in this guide feature a 3M pressure sensitive adhesive that bonds the backing to another surface on contact.
Each adhesive has different characteristics that affect production and end use performance.

*Surface Energy ranges from high to low. To illustrate the concept of surface energy, think of water on the unwaxed hood of
a car. The unwaxed hood has high surface energy and water on the hood flows into puddles. In comparison, a waxed hood has
low surface energy and the water beads up rather than flows out. Similar to water, adhesive on a high surface energy surface
flows and “wets out” the surface. “Wetting out” is required to form a strong bond.
As a rule of thumb, the higher the surface energy, the greater the strength of adhesion.
Specially formulated adhesives are available for low surface energy surfaces. The following illustrations and surface rankings
give you an idea of relative surface energy. Regardless of surface energy, the substrate must be unified, dry and clean to
maximise adhesive contact.

Versatile and flexible attachment solutions
3M double-sided tapes and adhesive transfer tapes
(including laminating adhesives) provide a bonding
solution to meet every requirement. Whether you are
attaching graphics to durable goods, laminating to
foam gaskets or splicing webs in a cardboard corrugator,
3M double-sided tapes and adhesive transfer tapes
will provide a solution for the most demanding applications.
Double-sided tapes are engineered with adhesive on
both sides of a carrier such as film or tissue. This increases
the dimensional stability of the tape for easy handling
and application.
Adhesive transfer tapes are rolls of pressure sensitive
adhesive (without a carrier) providing excellent conformability
and temperature resistance, high shear strength and high
performance for attachment of durable graphics.

Scotch™ and 3M™ Tartan™ Box Sealing
Tapes and Dispensers
Carton sealing that is safe, secure and dependable
Scotch and 3M Tartan box sealing tapes deliver convenience
and dependability every time you use them. They are built
tough, to resist score line breaking and centre seam splitting
even when boxes are handled roughly. Tape dispenses quickly
and easily to save you time. Both Scotch and Tartan box
sealing tapes are available in a variety of lengths and widths
to meet your specific needs.
Choosing the right box sealing tape is easy. Refer to the matrix
on the left below for standard fibre board cartons. Refer to
the matrix on the right below for recycled board cartons or
when the tape is applied in cold or damp conditions. Look at
the stress* and weight axis to find which tape to use. Then
consider the value axis. Tapes with rubber adhesive have the
strongest holding power, while acrylic adhesive tapes are the
stickiest with high initial adhesion. If given a choice of tapes,
it is recommended you use the higher grade tape to ensure a
safe and secure seal. Generally, the higher the tape number the
higher the grade.

3M™ Plate Mounting Tapes
3M™ Cushion Mount™ Plus Tapes and 3M Flexographic Mounting
Tapes are designed for mounting flexographic printing plates
to cylinders or sleeves. The Cushion-Mount plate mounting
tapes range offers a complete range of foam densities, providing
excellent print quality from process to combination to solid
printing. Consistent calliper control allows the printer to use
multiple foam densities on a print job to optimise print quality.
The adhesive on the linered side (plate side) of the tape is designed
for mounting of photopolymer plates, providing excellent holding
power and clean plate removal when demounting. The adhesive
on the non-linered side (cylinder side) of the tape is designed for
mounting to flexographic printing cylinders or sleeves, providing
easy application and clean removability when demounting. The
liner on the “E” series of tapes features a unique crosshatched
pattern that forms microchannels through the adhesive. These
channels make successful tape application easier as they eliminate
air bubbles, avoiding print defects.

3M™ Spill Control
Hazardous substances are often stored or used in the workplace. Businesses need to be
able to react quickly to spills of these substances to prevent damage to both people and the
environment. The Hazardous Substances and New Organisms (HSNO) Act 1996 requires
an emergency management plan that deals with the safe management of all hazardous
substances. The Environmental Risk Management Authority (ERMA) also requires that
there are emergency response plans for secondary containment, or bunding, to contain
spills. The use of 3M sorbents allows businesses to meet many of the requirements of the
HSNO Act.
3M Sorbents are lightweight, non abrasive, dust free, easy to remove and easy to deploy
in the event of a spill and create less waste. Used sorbents should be handled, labelled and
transported in accordance with safety and environmental regulations for the absorbed liquid.
3M Maintenance Sorbents
3M maintenance sorbents are designed to absorb non-aggressive liquids making them ideal
for the control of leaks, drips and spills of oils and lubricants commonly found in industry.
3M Petroleum & Oil Sorbents
These sorbents are designed specifically to control, clean and recover oil and other petroleum
based fluids while repelling or floating on water. The 3M petroleum sorbent range is available
in a variety of configurations including booms, sheets, pads, pillows and rolls and can be
reused, with up to 90% of the absorbed oil able to be wrung out and reclaimed.
3M Chemical Sorbents
These sorbents are relatively inert, made principally from polypropylene, and are powerful
enough to handle dilute acids, bases, coolants, solvents, oils and many other hazardous
liquids - eliminating the need for several different sorbent types. They are lightweight, dustfree and have a high absorption capacity.

effectively deal with a spill emergency and come with
