Camp 2007 will start...
IN A MOMENT, NOT YET…
It is late October and I haven’t had a chance to write the latest
Towanda Times until right now. For me, I just got home from camp
about two weeks ago…amazing, I know. The ghosts of the
summer of 2006 still linger by the White Rock, Courtyard and of
course, The Ghost Court.
To our campers and staff, it was another great summer…great
laughs, great activities, great friends. To our camper’s parents, it
truly was a great summer. The challenges are always behind the
scenes, the way it should be. I imagine the kids don’t even realize
that we had over 14 inches of rain! Go figure! But it was fun
communicating via email to our camp parents. Thanks for all your
positive feedback.
Let’s see, what is it you remember, when you think of the summer
of 2006?...
Crocs of all colors… Check it out bc, sister brother be free(go to
ct????)…Senior girls count off to 21 is loud…if O&A was easy, we
would call it waterfront (this was a great indicator of good clean
fun and pride in the departments…during Olympics the temperature
reached 103 degrees and the lake was 90 (sweet)…ice pops and
water breaks were mandatory… plus lots of watermelon and
Italian ices…the bunk plaques were umbrellas… cheers of Rufi-o
and Geri-O…the sweaty Mad Chadd during one of our blackouts
juggling running buzz saws (there was more of an applause when
the lights finally came on)…The larger Needleman was voted 5
year club president, but we think this is a real farce of an activity
since Adam Shelly has been reinstated as president 6 years in a
row since somehow the newly elected president mysteriously
disappears after the election… how about those Public Service
Announcements regarding who is related , who is not, who should
be and who is mistaken (thanks to the Habib’s, Foxes, Miller’s
and the Brittany’s)…If you love Junior boys, shoes
up…..Squeeeggeee time…Tye-dye shirts…A couple clean
sweeps in inspection perfection…Late Night Dorm campfire or a
Middie/Tween kitchen raid…IRA on piano.. nothing like a good
game of “Yelling and screaming!!”…Electric shabbos
candles…Tony Victory’s dance party…Taxi’s
bark mitzvah
year… knowing Eric Mozes from his brother…Maniac
Monday…The water slide…was it Hot, humid or rainy?...but we
had Visiting day ponchos ready to go…Okay, for the record, we
had over 14 inches of rain the first four days; the town was closed,
roads were closed, bridges were out (remember we cancelled
the trip to the Callicoon Theater), we had blackouts, roof leaks
and rivers, rapids and washouts on the hills, ballfields, in the
bunks (!!) and walking paths, as McD’s and campapalooza got
washed away; letting the yellow mellow and of course nothing like
a good game of mud ghost…. But that was all overshadowed by
Spa days (if you know what I mean, even Sussman got a
treatment)…Noah did the prayer during the rain and we actually
did not have our first line up and free play until the 5th day of
camp…we even danced at lunch the first day!.. some same it was
the summer of the Damp Camp; Ships in 06 or a mere wait for the
Dry July…or The Dorm Storm….so, was it going to be the Blue
Water vs Red Tide or the Blue Tarps v Red Dams or Sump
Pumps?.... it was a great game of Middie Olympic ghost, Dorm
dark ghost with the glow ball in the dust; watching everyone come
together, it is an amazing thing at camp that happens as the
summer progresses and can really put a smile on ones face is
when you see teammates supporting each other and the other
opposing teams….the magic of rope burning (perseverance and
everyone facing extreme disappointment and rising way above
that). The “burnt CC’s”, in the words of Andrew Merinoff, “I’m
happy that everyone else got it; I’m good” This is what life at camp
is about. Luckiest moment of the summer: Jake Morgenstern’s
row boat skills NOT caught on tape by the Friday Nite Flix crew…
Not very funny as a team cheer by red---“Scratch, we have the
Olympic itch, we are passing it on from one head to the
next!”…Oh, Oh, Olympics!! Congratulations to The Blue Bikers
and The Red Cyclists (recap of breakout in next issue of The
Towanda Times).
There was also: Unique Entertainment, Towandapoly, Banna
Splits, Dippin Dots, The Rodeo Inflatables, Krsipy Kremes, The
great Plays of Fiddler on the Roof (Seniors, Club, and Dorm),
Once on this Island (Middies, Tweens, and Juniors), Peter Pan
(Debs, Dillies, Jets, Cadets)
And Suessical The Musical (Inters and Nats)… DJ Todd, the
canoe trips that made it, culinary classes, Fine Arts trip to the
sculpture park, All star game and bbq, Electionality, Girls Sing,
Hershey Park, Horse Racing, Venzie Pizza night, Airbands, Steve
Max, Dorney Park, Sibling Sleepover, Talent Shows, Harlem
Wizards, Casino Night, Backwards Day, Goldrush and the
BYOC-M, Counselor Hunt, Camlebeach and Mountain Creek
trips, Niagara Falls, Montreal, Boston & Martha’s Vineyard trips,
MISSter Towanda, Dutch auction, Fort Night, Bunk Feast, Lazy
Day, Porch breakfasts, Wayne County Fair, 5 year club trip and so
much more----like daily activities, intercamp games, special
events, and Olympics…… Camp was great!!! Oh, only one thing,
it will be like HEAVEN in 2007!!

FISHING AT TOWANDA
Fishing at Towanda continues to grow in popularity
and participation. Over a 150 campers (boys & girls)
of all ages made it down to the lake for fishing this
summer. There were a total of 207 fish caught, all of
which were released back into the lake so they could
be caught again another day. Fishing has proved to
be a big hit here at camp again this summer with
more than 140 campers signing up in the first three
days of camp alone. Campers of note this year
include: Harrison Kugler (B12) who caught the most
fish in Boys Upper Camp, Griffin Webber (B4) who
caught the most fish in Boys Lower Camp. Jenna
Sabety (G4) caught the most fish in Girls Camp. Brett
Falchock (B12) caught the largest Bass in Boys
Camp and Jenny Winkler (G4) caught the largest
Bass in Girls Camp. The most improved Camper at
fishing this year was Perry Feinstein (B2), and the
camper with the best over all effort went to Gregory
Brown (B3) who not only caught fish, but also let a
fish steal his rod. Everyone who made it down to the
lake for fishing had a great time and all are taking
home great memories.

Coming In Next Issue:
Chat Room Dates
We are currently looking for qualified
nurses to live and work at camp this
coming summer. There is a finder’s
fee, so please recommend!
LITS GETTING INVOLVED
The LITs got involved in charity this summer, again. They
organized, managed, promoted the Morry’s Camp Swim-AThon they raised about $7000.00 and Stephanie Mitch
matched that, for a grand total of $14,000.00. In addition,
they also were educated this summer, promoted and
prepared for the Foundation Fighting Blindness’ VisionWalk
in Central Park, New York City. There was a significant
Towanda presence at the October 21st walk. Bright sunshine,
cool and crisp autumn temperatures and brilliant Central
park color added to the great morning of fundraising.
Cotton candy and sandwiches, live music and a couple
laps around a short walk helped raise over $375,000.00. The
LITs (along with other campers, counselors, camp parents
and camp grandparents)were proud to be a part of it.
After such a successful day in the park, we decided that
next year we will open this event up to all campers and their
families that would like to participate. We’ll have an “open-air”
reunion in the morning, followed by participation in the
VisionWalk. Details to follow during the coming year.

For sure, some new roofs on several bunks (including
Triple, G-1, and G-6). Speaking of G-6; this bunk gets a
total remodeling; new roof, walls, larger sleeping area
and a brand new bathroom. The Infirmary is also
getting a makeover. We are making it 30% larger, this
will include a 2nd exam room, larger waiting room,
more patient rooms, a covered porch, heating and a/c
and more. The Staff Lounge at the White Rock Café will
also be receiving some cool upgrades. We will also be
offering private Spanish lessons (in addition to the
tutoring already offered for bar-mitzvahs and many
school subjects). The Gully Hockey Arena will have
new bleachers, team benches and a large storage area
for campers to permanently keep their gear at the
arena. We are also pleased to announce that we have
purchased our own facility on another lake…this
provides for advanced skiing with 2 boats permanently
docked there as well as bathroom and foul weather
housing. This lake increases the quality of our program
significantly. Skiing still takes place on Sunset Lake as
well.
… And a lot more new surprises are being prepared
between now and the start of camp.

SEE video highlights of 2006, the
ultimate in Friday Nite Flix! EAT pizza! DRINK soda!

make it, we’ll mail you your DVD after Thanksgiving.
PARKING: This is our first time here, so we have
to go with the flow a bit. This venue is in an industrial
area that is not active on the weekends. There will
be “parking attendants” assisting, but basically,
once the parking lot fills up, it is okay to park on
the street.
