BEHR – even more in store
Farming since 1882
'' In the old days''
the valuable harvest of the whole village was brought
to the wholesale market in Hamburg.
''Today''
about 70 trucks leave the logistic centre
of BEHR AG daily in summer season.
1
Quality based on experience
About us
As a Europe-wide producer of vegetables BEHR AG
cultivates over 4,000 hectares of outdoor vegetables,
of which 150 hectares are being cultivated organically.
Our location in Spain enables us to supply our customers
with fresh vegetables all year round, even during the winter
months. By adhering to very strict farming guidelines, we
are able to guarantee a consistently high level of quality at
all times and at all locations.
The objective of all work done in the production process,
during harvesting, in the course of processing products, in
the warehouse, and also regarding logistics and sales, is to
ensure that our customers are satisfied. This is reflected in
the form of safe products that reach the consumers. It serves the purpose of promoting a sense of well-being and
healthy nutrition; it is to be savoured with joy and pleasure;
and in the production process, all social and environmental
requirements are to be complied with.
Our in-house verification and documentation system, which
covers all production processes, ensures the highest degree
of product safety and full traceability.
Active sustainability
We are not only a major grower of vegetables, but also an
owner-run family business – now in its fourth generation.
It comes as no surprise therefore that our company is
highly committed to the three pillars of sustainable development: economic, environmental and social responsibility.
Among other things, this includes measures such as watersaving irrigation and water-purification processes and
systems.
Satisfaction through quality
For the entrepreneurial families Behr and van Schoonhoven,
high-grade product quality and trustful cooperation with
our customers have paramount priority.
Rudolf Behr
Chairman
of the Board
BEHR AG
2
Our target
is to offer consumers vegetables which are
both visually appealing and rich in flavour.
The satisfaction of our customer with our
goods and services is our uppermost target.
3
Our service for joint success
Sustainable action at all sites
Environmental responsibility – social responsibility –
product safety – quality: these are the guiding principles
of all our efforts and part of sustainable production.
Sustainability also includes economic behaviour at all
locations, both at home and abroad.
For improved seasonal transition and
regional customer proximity
Since 1st of June 2011 a Hessian production site enlarges the
BEHR AG. This location allows us to secure the production
of certain cultures, such as iceberg lettuce, in the seasonal
transition periods during spring and autumn between
Spanish and German production. Additionally, it also
strengthens our regional customer proximity.
We harvest to order
Thanks to our logistics centre with approx. 7,000 m2 of cold
storage, we are able to complete your orders quickly and
reliably, making every effort to ensure uniform quality – in
both summer and winter. As a rule, all orders placed by
midday within Germany will be delivered the next morning.
4
Quality and safety
Quality and safety are essential
In order to make sure we live up to our aim to supply safe
products of the highest quality, independent quality controls
are carried out in the field during farming and harvesting, in
the preparation and packing hall, and during transportation
of the products.
Separate certifications for all production
companies
BEHR AG has been working with the same
regular suppliers for many years. Instead of
opting for group certification, however, we have
undertaken to control each and every supplier
individually, thus ensuring the same high quality standards
are maintained across the board. Being certified according
to the standards of QS-GAP, QS or GlobalGAP is a premise
to supply the BEHR AG.
Social standards in all areas have
always been held in high esteem
at BEHR AG. BEHR AG requires its producers to have
themselves certified either through the QS standard
„Voluntary QS Inspection of Working and Social Conditions
(FIAS)“ or the GlobalGAP counterpart „GRASP“. GRASP
stands for „GLOBAL G.A.P. Risk Assessment on Social
Practice“. Both modules ensure good social practices in
agricultural enterprises, improve the working conditions
of employees because of the prescribed requirements and
strengthen the rights of the employees.
IFS and QS for commercial business
The quality management system of
BEHR AG meets the latest International Feature Standards (IFS) and
the guidelines of QS Wholesale as
well. The processes involved in purchasing, sales and storing
the vegetables are thus subject to strict hygiene standards.
Our employees ensure all measures can be traced by completing clear, standardised records. BEHR AG meets IFS
standards at a high quality level.
5
Organic certification
A comprehensive, tried-and-tested control system,
including all areas of vegetable production, is also in place
for our organic products. All organic suppliers in our
group are certified organic producers.
We are also doing a lot more
While staff at AMG Agrarmanagement GmbH ensure the
individual requirements of our customers are fulfilled, our
quality assurance offers product support until the goods
reach the customer’s warehouse. Visits are arranged with
our customers to discuss the products and potential measures for improvement. Customer satisfaction is very
important to us and therefore given top priority.

It's great that Gemüse Behr explains the world of vegetables
Customers can use the QR code on the product
packages and on our home page at www.behr-ag.com
to view recipe suggestions and general product information, and, from summer 2013 onwards, films about our
products as well. The films have a theme of “It‘s great
that Gemüse Behr explains the world of vegetables!” The
films are designed to explain to consumers what exactly
happens from growing time, harvesting, packaging and
transporting to a supermarket to create a top-quality
product. “From field to table” - the films show the
progress of vegetables from the field to the consumer.
The films consist of a real and an animated section. The
real film section shows the individual steps from planting
right up to harvest for every vegetable type. Who can
explain it better to consumers what happens in the fields
than the farmer himself? To do so, Rudolf Behr accompanies the viewer through the world of vegetables.
In the animated section, the comic figures Bruno Bear, Bio Bear, Roberta Raven and Rudi the Caterpillar play the main roles.
“In sunshine, wind and rain, the field is alive”, they sing at the end. This is shown in a number of episodes. For every vegetable type, the life cycle of the product is shown briefly, followed by a specific topic. Problems are also openly addressed; at
the end the comic figures sing:
“ ...All we can say here is:
That's what nature does !“

Mecklenburger Ernte GmbH has been recognised as a producer organisation in accordance with the requirements prescribed by the European
Union. In the fruit and vegetable segment, it is the only recognised producer organisation in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Currently 27
associates are represented. They come from the federal states of
Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Brandenburg, Saxony-Anhalt, Lower
Saxony, Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia
and Spain: 19 vegetable and 8 fruit growers.
The core tasks and objectives of the producer organisations are to
ensure top-grade quality, production in line with market requirements
and mutual marketing of the products. In addition to a very high degree
of specialisation in the case of some producers, particularly in the field
of open-air vegetable cultivation, the cultural range of Mecklenburger Ernte is exceptionally large, when viewed in its entirety. Thus the
ideal prerequisites are in place to ensure that the market demands
regarding central, regional and, in future, also local supply, are satisfied.
