PARI Anti-Piracy Committee
The PARI Anti Piracy Committee headed by AntiPiracy Committee Chairman Ramon S. Chuaying has
been very active in its fight against Piracy this year.
The members of the Committee are, Johnny K. Sy,
Marivic A. Benedicto, Jing B. Castro, Rene A. Salta,
and Flerry L. De Leon. We have been involved in
several Government Agencies such as the Optical
Media Board (OMB), the Intellectual Property Office of
the Philippines (IPOPH), and the Philippine National
Police (PNP).
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between
the OMB (under Chairman Ronnie Ricketts) and the
PNP (headed by Chief PNP Nicanor Bartolome) was
made possible with the help of the Music Industry
personalities like PARI Honorary Chairman James G.
Dy. The MOU further strengthened the fight against
physical piracy by eliminating the jurisdiction issues
and allowing seizures without specific orders from
their superiors. The pilot operation increased physical
piracy seizures by as much as 58% during the
implementation period.
The PARI Anti-Piracy Committee also started its
Reporting System with the use of Email, and social
media services such as facebook and twitter:
https://www.facebook.com/reportmusicpiracytopari,
https://twitter.com/PARIAntipiracy
and
email
[email protected]. People can now
report any form of Music Piracy to PARI and PARI will
address the complaint or forward the complaint to the
concerned agencies.
The PARI Anti-Piracy Reporting System has been
successful in reporting complaints to the Optical
Media Board. PARI has been instrumental in the
success of a number of OMB Operations in Metro
Manila, Cavite, and Olongapo.
The Closure of major piracy hubs like Makati
Cinema Square and St. Francis Square this year
is testament that the illegal trade is slowly
becoming an underground business again. The
closure of Metrowalk Piracy Area is the last piece
of the puzzle that we will soon realize.
PARI Anti-Piracy Committee was also involved in
OMB Random Inspections of Commercial
Establishments like malls and groceries. We have
partnered with OMB to ensure that Bazaars and
Tiangges are Piracy-Free. We were also tasked
by the International Federation of the
Phonographic Industry (IFPI) to conduct a
replicating plant visits. This will ensure that the
plants will be more vigilant and protect
copyrighted works from leaks.

PARI-OMB Partnership
The partnership between the Philippine
Association of the Record Industry, Inc.
(PARI, Inc.) and the Optical Media Board
(OMB) was further intensified during the
recently concluded 25th Awit Awards. Optical
Media Board Chairman Ronnie Ricketts
launched the Anti-Piracy T-shirt by the OMB
and PARI bearing the OMB “Bawal Kumopya”
logo in front, and the “STOP MUSIC PIRACY”
logo of PARI at the back. The OMB
Chairman together with the PARI Board
members gave away some PARI-OMB shirts
to the audience.
Safe in His arms, now and forever…
In loving memory of our friends in the Music Industry…
