Tourist Card
Prior to entering the immigration line, visitors are required to

Before entering the country at airports, visitors are required
to fill out embarkation/disembarkation forms. These must be
filled out before entering the immigration line, where a passport
must be presented. These forms are provided by the airline.
For most visitors, a passport along with a Tourist Card is
required to enter the Dominican Republic. For a list of countries
that can enter the Domincan Republic with a tourist card
or visa, please see the Entry Requirements section on the
www.GoDominicanRepublic.com Web site. For countries that
need a visa, contact your closest Dominican Republic
consulate or visit www.serex.gov.do. However, any person,
no matter their nationality, can enter the Dominican Republic
with a Tourist Card (not a visa) if they are legal residents or if
they have one of the following valid visas in the passport:

In addition to the tourist card, visitors are required to
pay a US$20 departure tax at the airport upon departure
(This is generally included in the cost of a regular airline ticket,
but some charters do not include it, please check with your
travel agency). Dominican hotels and restaurants collect
26 percent of their published prices (16 percent sales tax +
10 percent service charges).
Traveling with Children
Requirements for minors (foreigners) in the Dominican Republic :
At the moment of departure from the Dominican Republic,
Immigration will request that the minors are accompanied with
the same person that they arrived. This can be proved by using
airline tickets, airport or port of entry and the number stamped
in the passport, etc.
If the minor will not leave the Dominican Republic with the
same people that arrived or with both of the parents or legal
tutors, they will need an authorization (consular declaration)
legalized by the Dominican Republic consulate closest to the
country of residence of the parents.

Tipping is widely practiced throughout the Dominican Republic.
Alcohol Drinking Age
While restaurants automatically add a 10 percent tip to the
bill, it’s customary to give a bit extra – up to 10 percent.
Tips are also given to taxi drivers, hotel maids (even at
all-inclusive) and porters.
Travelers visiting the Dominican Republic are advised to drink
bottled water. Because of the strength of the Caribbean sun,
it is recommended that vacationers drink water throughout the
day to avoid dehydration.
It is essential for travelers to the Dominican Republic to pack
sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher, again, due to the strength
of the Caribbean sun. In addition, for those traveling to
wildlife area, mosquito repellent is strongly recommended.
Should a medical emergency occur during a stay most hotels
and resorts have on-site medical care. In addition, emergency

Internet service for a fee. Tourists will also find Internet cafés
and Wi-Fi hotspots throughout the country.

Pet Regulations
The Department of Animal Health requires specific documentation
for any pets being brought into the country. Cats and dogs
must have the following documentation:
• A health certificate issued by the Office of Animal Health
no more than 15 days prior to the arrival date of the
animal is required.
• Anti-rabies vaccine, triple vaccine (distemper, lectopirosis,
hepatitis) and Parvo-virus vaccine certificates showing
inoculations 15 days prior to the arrival date of the animal.
Pets that don’t meet requirements will be quarantined for at
least eight days and up to a month. For all other types of
animals, special authorization should be sought from and
issued by la Dirección General de Ganadería (Department of

car companies are represented, but hiring a car and driver or
taking a taxi are additional options for getting around. Use
only the taxis from outside the airport and at the

and call the same company to pick you up. When utilizing
local transportation from ports and airports, try to agree on
the fare in advance to avoid problems and ask for the
chauffeur’s identification before entering the car.

birds located very close to the village of Cabral. The lagoon

that traces back to the arrival of the Taino Indians.
Following the island’s discovery by Christopher Columbus in
1492, the Republic had epic interaction with the Spanish,
French, Haitians and Africans. It’s no wonder, then, how the
Dominican Republic came to boast such an impressive collection
of personal and cultural relics from centuries past.
This museum is a tribute to the 700 Jewish refugees taken in
by former president Rafael Trujillo in 1938 during the Nazi
occupation of Germany. Exhibits showcase photos and
personal memorabilia of the settlers and the dairy manufacturing
facilities they developed in town.
