WHAT’S IT
ABOUT
Got your eye on something special? You may need
a bank account either to save your money or spend it.
If you are 12 years of age or older and in second level
education our Student Account and Student Saver Account
have been designed with you in mind to make managing
your money really easy!
02
This booklet tells you all you need to know about opening
your very own bank account and all the benefits that come
with it, such as Spark Something, Build a Bank Challenge
and the Future ME programme.
03
HERE’S WHAT
OUR STUDENT
ACCOUNT DOES
Our AIB Student Account is a bank account that lets
you get to your money wherever you are and whenever
you want. It’s your money after all. The account is
designed to fit in with the way you live your life.
04
No Maintenance and
Transaction Fees
We don’t charge you anything for using
your account. Normally we call these
charges maintenance and transaction
fees. There are some other fees that may
be charged and you can see what they
are in our brochure ‘A Guide to Fees and
Charges for Personal Accounts’. Pick it
up at any AIB branch or online at
www.aib.ie at the bottom of the
web page.
Get a Debit Card
With your AIB Student Account, you
have the option to get an AIB Debit
Card, which works with a Chip in the
card and a four digit number called a
Personal Identification Number (PIN)
that you will need to remember. You can
use it in shops and restaurants, online,
or over the phone to buy things and also
to take your money out of an ATM.
No Government Stamp Duty
We’ll pay the Government Stamp Duty
on your card. Currently, it’s €2.50 if you
use your card for either ATM / In branch
or for a purchase (in shops, online or over
the phone) and €5 if you use your card
for both. We’ll pay that for you, but if this
changes, we’ll tell you a month in advance.
No Charge for Foreign Money
We won’t charge you commission when
you get cash in a foreign currency or
put it into your account. To avail of this
additional benefit, you must advise staff
at the time of each transaction that you
are an AIB Student Account holder.
These additional financial benefits are
only available on face-to-face transactions
undertaken at the branch and are not
available on any transactions undertaken
at an ATM, AIB Self Service Banking or
through any other electronic means.
You can find out what we would
have charged you in our ‘Schedule of
International Transaction Charges’ at
any branch or at www.aib.ie
