Client: Jackson Hole Restaurant
Project 2 Information Architecture Kevin Stalder Web Page Design 2 Client: Jackson Hole Restaurant Mission: The Jackson Hole Restaurant is a place where the patrons come in as strangers and come back as friends. The Jackson Hole Restaurant’s goal is to treat the patrons to a big home cooked meal at reasonable prices so the patrons keep coming back. The Jackson Hole Restaurant wants the patrons to feel more like family than customers. Goal: The Jackson Hole Restaurant wants their website to be more of a marketing tool than just a static website. In order to achieve this, I would make the website highlight the aspects of their restaurant that makes them unique. The Jackson Hole Restaurant wants to be known for big portions, reasonable prices, and as the Home of the Belly Buster. I would highlight the Belly Buster Challenge by separating it onto its own page. On that page, it would give the different challenges and would post the pictures of the winners. This page would also be the page where you can join a Facebook group to try to get Man VS Food to the Jackson Hole Restaurant. There would also be commenting on this page as to get people’s reactions and ideas for new challenges. All the reviews I read about the Jackson Hole were good, so I thought it would be smart to put a testimonials page so people could comment about the Jackson Hole. The Jackson Hole wanted to have their website be more interactive and more of a marketing tool. This would be accomplished by making their current catering form into an actual ordering form where customers could tell what they want, when their event is is, and the location. This would be easier for both the restaurant and the customer. The Jackson Hole Restaurant is also interested in implementing more features into their site. They want to have the customers be able to enter in their email addresses for weekly specials. I would create a “coupon” image on multiple pages, specifically the facebook page, home page, and any pages where the user would have to fill out a form. When clicking on this “coupon” image it would allow for one coupon and tell the user in order to get more coupons they would have to provide their email address. I would also try to revolve most of the wording on the website and the images around large portions and reasonable prices. The Jackson Hole Restaurant could make social networking more prominent on the site and offer specials for being a part of the Jackson Hole Restaurant’s social network. I would want to add links right off promoting their new weekly specials. Audience: The audience is mainly anyone that would like to try a new restaurant. The audience would probably mainly be people who are wanting to not spend a whole lot of money while getting a big portion. Since this is in Jackson Township, I could imagine much of the audience being a family with a couple of kids and be making typical middle class money ($40,000 to $60,000?). I could picture students and their families being a lot of their patrons because the restaurant is located on the main road near a high school, middle school, and an elementary school. I could picture kids coming home from school stopping in for lunch. Direct Competition: Direct Competitors: Swenson’s Dairy Queen Sonics Chili’s Rockne’s Mostly chain restaurants Indirect competition: Groceries TV dinners The Jackson Hole Restaurant could compete with these indirect competitors by offering big portions that would allow leftovers to be brought home for a cheap price. They could compete with the indirect competition by making going to the Jackson Hole Restaurant more of a experience than just getting food. Project 2 Information Architecture Priorities Technology Kevin Stalder Web Page Design 2 My main goal is to make the Jackson Hole Restaurant’s website more of a marketing tool than just a static website. The Jackson Hole Restaurant wants to be known for big portions, reasonable prices, and being the home of the Belly Buster. Also, the Jackson Hole Restaurant wants to improve the catering form on the website so I will try to make that more extensive where the customers could see prices and send more information about their needs easier. The Jackson Hole Restaurant’s owner also mentioned that they would like to be able to edit the website without knowing how to design it or without messing anything up. They also want the website visitors to be able enter their email addresses to get coupons and specials. I would talk to them to see which way would work best to get that to happen. I want to try to increase the traffic to the restaurant and the website, so there could be car shows, local theatre shows, and promotional specials and coupons. I would also try to start a facebook page trying to get Man vs Food to try the Belly Buster Challenge. Another possible way the Jackson Hole Restaurant could try to get more customers is to utilize the building they are in more. The building used to be a fast food restaurant so they could deliver food through the drive thru. The main technology I would employ is using forms to send information about catering. I would use MySql or php to make a database in order to keep all the information that is received from the catering orders and a database to keep all the email addresses that were submitted to the site. In order to allow the owners to edit the website, I would use Contribute or some other technology to enable them to edit the website without disturbing the design. Project 2 Information Architecture Kevin Stalder Web Page Design 2 Current Site Map www.jacksonholerestaurant.net Home Menu Catering Pics Directions Menu.pdf Menu.pdf lightbox Google maps directions Catering form Navigation Outside Links/email Website Features All pages have links to Facebook, Twitter, Email, and a Map The Menu pdf takes a very long time to load which could prevent people from waiting to see the menu. The Catering form is not very extensive and the catering menu is the same as the other menu. There are also some minor alignment issues between the pages. The site overall is done well. The site could just look more professional and be more interactive as a marketing tool. So I put the Belly buster challenge as its own separate page. The Jackson Hole Restaurant wants get more business so I thought they could have Car Shows, a promotion with a local theatre, and business meetings at their restaurant. I saw on other websites that there are lots of positive reviews about the Jackson Hole Restaurant so I thought it would be good to have them on the website. The menu on the original site took a long time to load so I want to separate the different parts of menu so it will load faster.
