STAN FRONCZAK EDITOR .4 This week, I'd like to stress to you the importance of INVOLVEMENT1 . 1 Whether you are young or old, Gay or Straight, or rich or poor, you can and MUST get involved in some activity that will better your life! We here at RAW are involved with the Gay Community of Wisconsin on a full-time basis and have seen first-hand how getting involved benefits all of us. Of course, there will always be some people involved with "causes", but the vast majority of the population prefers to sit back and say, "Let someone else do it, I'm too busy!". There are way too many people involved with "noninvolvement"! Everyone has something to offer to their fellow human being. Perhaps it's as little as calling an old friend who's feeling lowor as much as donating time to a worthy cause fit is involvement! You are helping the world to be a much better place in which to live. This "positive reinforcement" to yourself and the world, has a tremendous positive effect. It's a powerful force, and without it, life is not complete! Do the world a favor---GET INVOLVED! Do something for your fellow personGET INVOLVED!!! ESCAPE TO APPLETON Appleton has just come up Frith a new annual event. The Ms. 11CM WEST Memorial :ontest. iSorry Wisconsin tor promising you a new Ms. 1101 14T & not being' able to produce one out of all the fabulous looking women that patronize 1101. Maybe its just that they're all to bashfuli..... What ever the reason, it was a disappointment. ,Gut the entertainment was not. Three new entertainers graced our show • lounge. First from Milwaukee, Lena, in Leopard & great hair.. We were later informed this was also her first -show appearance. Good job Lena!! Mr. BodyShop 1983-84 (Jerry), showed us why he has his title. "SWEET DREAMS" Jerry. Diana "Legs" Gregory, Pis. Gay Wisconsin was the third performer to exhibit her t4lents. Wow!!! She sure deserves her claim to "Fame. What a woman!!! Mr. & Miss 1101 (Larry, Larinda) helped turn a disappointing evening into a oight of great entertainment with their numbers. Performed flawlessly as usuall! These two are really paving their ways to October. Wi5consin Beware! After finishing 1st RunnerUp to Miss Southeastern Gay Wisconsin the previous night, Tina Capri took to the stage. !Mere these people get their energy, we'll never understand Congratulations, Tina! We can't give enough thanks to the Empress of Wisconsin Jackie and Miss Trixie for their part in making an otherwise dismal evening into a success! A special thanks to . ALL the entertainers for putting out the extra effort!!! Volleyball enthusiasts are just a flapping their gums. Labor Day Weekend should prove to be interesting should JoDee's accept our rematch. What a better weekend with an extra day try recuperate. We know one of our Cruise Directors could have used an extra day of f & R after our visit south. This time we'll be ready. The "Little Apple" has a surprise for all you Milwaukeens coming in the near future. Watch the Rain for details. CHUCK & IVAN RACINE Hope many of you weren't too upset that Racine did not have a column in last week's issue of RAW! We are all back from our August travels and getting ready for an action-packed September! JoDees closed out August with another bike : and a buffet to say bye, L.ya to Summer! Where did Sommer go? The September calendars are available now. If you haven't received yours yet, stop by and pick one up! You can also get on w oDees mailing list by filling out an address card at the bar. Hopefully, people have their calendar marked for to Eaygirl (of 219). The party was a complete success thanks to the staff of G.A.P. Without them it would not have been possible to produce such an extravaganza. I'm sure we will see this becoming an annual event in the City of Festivals! SHAFT 219 is having a "First" for Milwaukee! Starting next Tuesday they will have an all-leather night starting at apm. This means that the leather dress code will be striqiy, enforced! You must wear a major article of leather to be allowed downstairs. If that weren t t enough, they will also have a beer bust for $3. aki■wv Tuesday 50erSth. This is the date for the next Gayl_ Lesbian Union (GLU) meeting in Racine. See you at the meeting! MILWAUKEE Among the many events held this weekend in Milwaukee was M & M's Anniversar . It was quite an event! Entertainment was provided and a great time was had by all! Many more years, Bob & Staff!!!!!!!! The biggie of the weekend was Da gest held at Grand Avenue Pub this past Sunday. The music was great, thanks PRESENT "TRIXTE" AND FRIENDS F SEPTEMBER 11, 1983 SHOWTIME 9:3q P.M. 1101 W. WISCONSIN APPLETON, OF. 414-733-9639 r4 What do you do when you find yourself lost among - the people and places that should be familiar to you; your sense of being and your definition : of life have been thrown totally askew? The answers to this and other questions io are being sought by Nick, the main character in Madison's Gay Theater Project's production of Richard Hall's HAPPY BIRTHDAY DADDY to be presented September 2nd & 3rd at Bpm and September 4th at 2pm at the Wil-Mar Neighborhood Center 953 Jenifer Street, Madison. Tickets are $3.50 in advance, and $4.00 at the door. ALL PROCEEDS WILL GO TOWARD AIDS RESEARCH Richard Hall has situated humorous scenes and strategic dialogue in order to give a completely human representation of his characters. Director, Gary . Robbins believes sa that HAPPY BIRTHDAY - DADDY is a play about people and the adjustments that they must make in order to live in harmony with each other. In this day of labeling (good guys vs bad guys, Capitalist vs Socialist, Homosexual vs Heterosexual, and _us vs .them), Hall has written a play that expresses the thought; Underneath all the absurd labels lie all the emotion and flesh which is a human being. Auditions for M.G.T.P. s next production, NICE GIRL by Robert, Patrick, will be held September 6th and 7th at 7pm at the Mills Street Neighborhood House, NICE GIRL will get its off-Eastcoast debut on October 10th - 12th at the Madison Civic Center. All persons interested in working in any capacity of M.G.T.P. are encouraged to attend these meetings. it t Sources M.G.T.P Press Release 8/20/83 • 1.411,,N hr • ..., liMPW t .3i 'et,y7. 41.1 04 -1 • f- 4 + Af# 44(jr 4 11.14 fa el AtiParaetri*D "." iildlWe iZerh ebredrelere o iZeW.,Meraide/YOWAWACIPM d o adoWeViVe /eVA vrnet":" dWee eA e.A " f e f r f f r r • e r c . -.WeselotAolordf, 'r • ere e • WEDNESDAYS OPEN BAR 8719 BEER / RAI L , TAP I $1 co, lower ba r 9Pm w/wed. card! It's called "SAM WON'T YOU DANCE WITH ME?". It's an Import on the Mantra label, recorded by VERA. Her song has the same kind of DONNA SUMMER'S early sounds. vfR A uses a different, more Euro-type beat. Even though it's not as convincing as Donna, It should hit the Gay dancefloors with much success! Next, we have another first. "OUT IN THE NIGHT" by SERGE PONSAR;- Warner Bros. picked a possible and pot.. ential big-hit artist. The music is contemporary featuring an incessant bass drive over a steady electric beat. The thing that got me was his incredibly sexy vocals! (Paul Parker, watch out!) The arrangement is simple and is a perfect summer "groove" record. This album is sure to bring him into the limelight. Watch out for his forthcoming album entitled, BACK TO THE LIGHT on Warner Bros. Records. Thera's a new import entitled, MY FORBIDDEN LOVER This was done by a Canadian group called TAPPS. It's a low-key song with a high-energy format which I haven't found much of in the past few months. Two things you can say about this record; one, it's polished to the max For dancefloor techniques, and, second and most importantly, it's HOT!!! • -RAYMOND'S TOP TEN--1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Typical destinations which are most often sought during the colder months are "wall, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Bahamas, the Virgin Islands, Fort _auderdale, Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater, Key West & Palm E ings. Mexico, Puerto Rico, Fort Lauderdale, Key West & Palm Springs- are "gay" destinations in varying degrees, although Puerto Rico, Key West & Palm Springs become the most frequently requested "gay" vacation meccas during the coldest months of our winter, February & March. Pit this time would like to advise you of the long range forcast of expected patterns of travel to these "gays" for Winter 1 83-84. As of several weeks ago, Acapulco is quite booked up nver the Christmas/New Years period as far as hotel & condominium space is concerned. Although I do not have specific information about other cities in Mexicu, I can assuredly state that due to the continued excellent travel value of Mexico as a warm weather destination, due to the de-valued peso situa7 Lion, that any popular city in Mexico will be difficult to obtain in terms of air & land arrangements & accomodations. Puerto Rico as of this writing is completely sold out as far as Gay Guest Houses are concerned during the month of February & March. December & January are rapidly filling up. The next available periods begin in Mid-april. I've not had any official report on the Florida beach cities, however air transportation to most of these areas is already showing diminished space. First class & full-coach fares are not surprisingly the only fares available through the coldest months, as well as over the holiday season.' Palm Springs, due to the recent birth of a more extended & developed gay destination, has not quite filled as rapidly, however a word to the wise is sufficient. This is a new destination for gays, worth exploring for winter sun, & the leisurely California life style. Complete seven-night programs are available with an abundance of opportunity to try most of the gay establishments in this desert community, by way of the many vouchers that are provided with the vacation program.
