24 Hours of Adrenalin Technical Guide 2014 marks the 19thanniversary of the 24 Hours of Adrenalin in Canmore. We as organizers feel very lucky to have the ability to continue the tradition in such a remarkable venue, which is a true legacy from the 1988 Winter Olympics. We also understand that we must not take this venue for granted, nor the surrounding wildlife corridor. We at twenty4 sports feel it’s our responsibility to look at the event each and every year with an eye on improving even in the slightest ways. Sometimes these adjustments are received better then others. But please understand that we are always looking at the big picture, we may falter at times but it’s our mandate to provide a fun, safe, smooth event for all involved. The following includes information on: • Captain’s Info, Teammates and Volunteers • Schedule of Events • Wrist Band Policy • Timing • Course Map • Course Marking • Trail Guardian Program • Venue Map • Camping Plan • Garbage/Recycling • Move In/Parking & Shuttle Programs • Waivers • Insurance • Event Packet Pick Up • Food & Beverage • Lodge hours • Prizing • Start / Finish • Charities Copyright © 2014 twenty4sports Inc., All Rights Reserved Captains / Teams / Volunteers Captains Thanks first for being a team captain. All participants must wear their wristband at all times. Wristbands improve the flow of traffic in and out of key areas including the transition tent and rider waiting area. Even Volunteers will have wristbands to wear during their actual volunteer shift (volunteers will have their wristbands cut off by our Volunteer Managers and Hosts in the “Honey Stringer V-Lounge” and given a swag bag after their shift... (Thanks again volunteers). Also it will improve our ability to ensure that no riders “not in the race officially who have signed waivers and are on the team race list” have access to the course. Only those wearing wristbands will be allowed to start (register as the next rider in the timing tent) or finish a lap. Wristbands will be placed on your wrist when picking up your plate and swag bag. Lost wristbands? Well let’s say its like lost money... you will not be given any additional ones. Timing For 2014, we are pleased to haveMS1 Timing as our official timing company. Team chips will be worn each and every lap. These are very expensive high-powered chips and you are 100% responsible for them and any cost associated with lost items. Like last year an additional digit on your bike plate (not solo) The first three digits will represent your team number and the forth (0 – 9) will represent your rider number for that team. Results will now show each riders time. Please note that captains will be able to log into the new system and input the rider sequence, very different than in the past. Information on this will be in the timing system announcement sent out in a week’s time. Riders can continue to ride in any order and can switch order throughout the event. No Tolerance Rule Only participants who have been invited and accepted (including signing a waiver) by a team captain are permitted to take part in the event. Any person found on the course that is not a fully registered rider will be asked to leave the Canmore Nordic Centre (CNCPP) immediately. Any team that allows another rider not on the official team list to participate will be automatically disqualified and asked to leave the CNCPP. Any rider found riding a plate that is not officially their plate the entire team will be disqualified. Copyright © 2014 twenty4sports Inc., All Rights Reserved Course Marking The course is lightly marked as of Thursday, fully marked on Friday. Remember that the CNCPP is open to the public during the week leading up to the event. Trail Guardians (TGP) These riders are part of a ten-person team that will ride with special plates (both front and back) identifying them. Riders will assist our trail management team throughout the event, ensuring that the course markings are in good shape. Copyright © 2014 twenty4sports Inc., All Rights Reserved Copyright © 2014 twenty4sports Inc., All Rights Reserved Camping Plan Please read the following in detail and ensure that each and every one of your teammates and supporters are aware of the camping / parking procedures. Make sure every person on your team knows the full team and captain’s name. The Canmore Nordic Centre is not designed to handle the vast number of people and vehicles expected for the unique needs of the 24 Hours of Adrenalin. As such, a camping / parking program has been specially designed for the event. It will run smoothly as long as you and your team members follow the guidelines below. (This document is emailed to every single participant in the system on Monday st July 1 those added after that date it will be the responsibility of the race captain to ensure teammates and volunteers understand what is involved). Campsites 1. Included in your team entry fee is one (1) camping spot that is approximately 600 square feet. Corporate teams are allowed two (2) sites. Solo sites are approximately 100 square feet. 2-person is 10 x 20. 2. All solo competitors will be camping in a solo specific area referred to as Solo Pit Row. These sites are approximately 100 square feet. The designated vehicle (one per solo competitor) will be located throughout the parking lots. The Solo Parking pass must be placed on the inside front windshield. No vehicles will be allowed in Solo Pit Row. 3. 24 Hours of Adrenalin reserve the right to place teams. Campground Etiquette Please bring extra garbage bags. There will be designated drop off / pick up points for garbage throughout the weekend. You are responsible for keeping your camp area as clean as you found it. We love dogs, however: Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times throughout the weekend! Dogs are not allowed in the transition / expo areas of the event, also dogs are not permitted on the buses. Garbage/Recycling IMPORTANT: You must clean up your campsite 100%. You are receiving the site without any garbage and it must be left with zero garbage and recycling. This must be completed continually throughout the event. The Conservation Officer will be making hourly rounds of the campsites to ensure it meets standards of the CO. If a site has any garbage visible, the entire team will not be permitted to participate in the future. Please look for our recycling program that will be in place. Look for the Bow Valley Waste signs and pop up tents! Toward Zero Waste Events Copyright © 2014 twenty4sports Inc., All Rights Reserved Landfills are increasingly expensive and complex operations as they meet modern environmental standards and occupy valuable land. In the Bow Valley it now costs $90.00 per ton to ship garbage to a landfill for disposal. In addition, there is growing concern over the economic inefficiencies and environmental implications related to the lifecycle of products that are quickly buried in landfills Please join us in moving Towards Zero Waste in the Bow Valley! 24 Hours of Adrenalin is pleased to cooperate with the Bow Valley Waste Management Commission to offer a "Towards Zero Waste" event. We hope to achieve at least 80% diversion from landfill disposal to recycling. Look for our team of volunteer Zero Waste Ambassadors who will assist you to properly sort your disposables atclearly identified Resource Recovery Stations. There will be two stations set up: One in the Main Stadium Area and one adjacent to the Biathlon Range. It is the responsibility of the participants to bring your recycling to the stations. We will NOT be coming to your campsite and collecting your recycling and compost. You will be required to bring your recycling to the Bow Valley Waste Tents and your garbage to the Nordic Centre bins (brown bear-proof bins) that are located through out the CNC. Garbage: A recycling program is in place, so please come with clear plastic bags: 1. One for paper products 2. One for plastics and cans etc. 3. One for glass Move in / Parking and Shuttling Process • Directional signs will be in place as you exit the TransCanada Highway. Continue towards and past the Silvertip Trail Road. • The management of the CNCPP are allowing for teams to drive in equipment once again. This is subject to ground conditions. Directions to Main Parking Lot (Bus Program and Shuttle Program) • Following the Trans Canada Hwy take Bench lands Tri and then turn left on Palliser Trail. Continue past Silvertip. You will notice our tent at the far end of the open parking area. Please proceed to the entrance. Copyright © 2014 twenty4sports Inc., All Rights Reserved 1. Move in for teams are from Friday, July 18th, 9:30 am– 11:00pm and from Saturday, July 19th, 8:00am– 11:00am. Please note if you show up outside of these hours you will be denied entry. 2. Absolutely no Thursday evening move in! Our permit with the CNCPP is only for Friday and Saturday nights. Vehicles will be towed and teams will not be allowed to race. 3. Each team is permitted to have one (1) designated vehicle parked at the Nordic Centre. Although corporate teams are given two sites, they are still only permitted to have one (1) vehicle in the Nordic Centre parking lot due to its parking space constraints. A vehicle is defined as a car, truck, van, camper, or RV. As a rule of thumb, anything with wheels and a motor other than a bicycle constitutes one (1) designated vehicle. All others MUST be parked in the Main Parking Lot. Teams who are camping in 'A' (RV camp area) can only put their designated vehicles in 'A' at their pit site, and not in the parking lot. 4. Copyright © 2014 twenty4sports Inc., All Rights Reserved 5. When arriving in Canmore, all vehicles, even the designated vehicle on site, must first check in at the Main Parking Lot in the town of Canmore. (Exceptions will only be made for large RVs, which should go directly to the Nordic Center’s Main Entrance). There will be a check-in tent at the Main Parking Lot where you will pick up your one vehicle parking pass and a map to get you to your pre-selected camping site. Vehicles not designated for the Nordic Centre will be parked in the Main Parking Lot in the town of Canmore and a shuttle will deliver you and your weekend supplies to the Nordic Centre. To avoid delays, try to pack your entire race supplies in your designated camping vehicle so there will be minimal items to shuttle. a. There will be a $5 per vehicle parking fee. Proceeds will go to a local charity. b. There will also be a $5 per person bus ride fee that will take you to the Canmore Nordic Centre. Bus coupons are purchased at the parking check in tent. Return rides down from the Nordic Centre are free. 6. There are no in-and-out privileges for designated vehicles in lot A. 7. To facilitate increased convenience and accessibility for all participants, limited in-and-out privileges will be very limited due to teams not complying with the rules last year. Some privileges maybe permitted (except for vehicles in lot A). The Race Management will determine throughout the event if in fact the program is able to continue. We reserve the right at any time to discontinue, so do not ruin it for others. Each entry will be recorded, and you will be allowed a minimum number of vehicle entries per day, for the “team” designated vehicle. a. Access will be denied once you have filled your quota for each day. Access will be unrestricted at approximately 1:00pm on Sunday afternoon. 8. During the event the shuttles will be running from the Main Parking Lot in the town of Canmore to the Nordic Centre on a round trip. Their frequency will increase during peak times. There will be no fee to take the shuttle from the Nordic Centre back to the Main Parking Lot. The buses will make a stop in the town of Canmore behind the Library, coming from the parking to the Nordic Center and to the Parking lot from the Nordic Center. 9. There will be absolutely no parking on Spray Lakes Road leading up to the Canmore Nordic Centre. This will be strictly enforced by the Nordic Centre and by the RCMP, as they will be ticketing and towing vehicles. General Campground Guidelines Campground A RV camping only (i.e. large campers & motor homes). There will be one RV vehicle allowed per site in this campground. (I.e. a four-person team is allowed to have one RV on their designated site area). Generators are allowed here. All other Campgrounds Please refer to the outlines on the web site.
