have represented Walkerville CC in season
2012/13.
Cow Pat Winner
The final round of the season is upon us and on
reflection it has been one with plenty of ups and
downs, but the pleasing thing is there are more ups!
The C grade has been the surprise packet to
everyone but themselves. They have been fortunate
to have a stable side for most of the season and
been develop into a group that is tight and wanting to
play & win together.
The B grades suffered their first loss since Rd 1 and
need to bounce back, have a good win going into the
finals & build to play for each other and have the guts
to tough it out going forward and not rely on others.
The A grade are to be commended for their 2nd half of
the season & now see themselves in a ‘dead rubber’.
The inclusion of a number of new players (Giles,
Pirelli, Ahern, Lewis) has given this team depth and
the opportunity to build for a successful 2013/14
season.
“Cow Pat” Day has come and dung! To the Social
Committee, especially Mark Evans, the day proved
to be a great success financially. Though the weather
proved to be a stinker and sitting in the Sports Club
and drinking the best option, but the attendance by
the Senior players on the day was a vast
improvement compared to after the games.
So as the season comes to a close I would like to
thank the committee for their efforts, Brett Knowles
captain/coach, Ron Sparks & Gwen for the efforts at

A Grade Wrap Up
Continued
Coming off back to back wins the mighty Cats
ventured down to Kingswood Oval to face off
against the second side in the competition, Unley.
With relegation out of the question and finals just a
couple more wins away the Cats went in with full
confidence, hoping to come away with the points.
One change to the line-up saw Damien Miller be
replaced by Ryan Lewis, but apart from that
Walkerville went in with a pretty similar line-up
which saw them knock off both Woodville South
and Concordia. On a special note it was Max
Barson's last game for the Cats and they were all
up and about to give him a winning send off.
Knowlesy lost the toss and Unley where more than
happy to have the first hit on a great batting
wicket, rock hard pitch and small boundaries along
with a fast outfield meant that if a batsman settled
in there were plenty of runs to be made. The
Catters started extremely well with Maxy taking the
first wicket which left Unley at 1 for 9. Tight
bowling and superb fielding from the Walkerville
boys made it hard for the Unley openers to score
runs. An unusual incident saw the Unley opener
edge the ball straight to gully, a standard but sharp
catch was taken and celebrations took place for a
few seconds until the players realised that the
umpire signalled a no ball. A setback for the Cats
meant they had to work harder for the
breakthrough and an over before drinks Barson
was able to jag a ball back from outside off stump,
straight through the gate which cannoned into the
pegs, Unley 2 for 16. Walkerville went into the
drinks break full of confidence and feeling really
good about the performance so far. After the
drinks break it started to get harder and harder and
the bowlers had to dig deep as Unley put on 91 for
their 3rd wicket partnership. Great fielding and
tight bowling meant that the Cats were able to
restrict the flow of runs keeping Unley to just under
2 for 100 at the tea break. The Walkerville lads
went into the tea break knowing that the next two
wickets where crucial and the difference between
chasing 230 or chasing 300. Walkerville started
strongly after the tea break with Paul Reid picking
up the crucial wicket of Doolan with an absolute
peach of a delivery, with some late swing Wooly
was able to pitch the ball on or around off stump
which then saw it move in and straight through the
gate once again, which ended up hitting the top of
leg stump. Unley now at 3 for 106. Knowles and
Duncan followed and the pair where able to restrict
the flow of runs and bowl exceptionally well to the
field which was set along with some great efforts in
the field, the Walkerville lads where able to restrict
Unley to a total of 6 for 228 from their 80 over’s.
Pick of the bowlers was Maxy and Knowlesy with 2
wickets a piece and a special mention goes to
Wooly as well who bowled tightly to finish with 1
for 37 off 19 which included 8 maidens. Walkerville
went into the second week with a great deal of
confidence that they would be able to chase down
Unley's first innings score.
Small boundaries, lightning quick outfield and a
rock solid deck meant that whoever was able to
get themselves in and spend some time in the
middle would be able to cash in heavily and make
a massive score. Unfortunately for the Cats this
was not the case. The chase began with the Giles
and Sarson combination, once again getting the
Cats off to a great start, the partnership ended on
41 with Gilesy playing all around a straight one.
Walkerville lost two quick wickets and soon
enough the score was 3 for 67. Knowlesy and
Maxy where at the crease and both were able to
put on a partnership of yet again 41, until Maxy
spooned a lolly pop catch to short cover which was
never going to be dropped. Knowlesy continued
and went on to make a hard fought 41 with
Anthony "Peppers" Dichiera backing him up.
Knowlesy was out on 41 which brought Paul
"Wooly" Reid to the crease. Enter Wooly, exit
Wooly! A first ball golden duck, straight through the
gate and sent packing. Ryan Lewis was in at 8
and was able to work the ball around and hit a
couple of boundaries before being clean bowled
for 10. Peppers was still at the crease but later
was caught at mid-wicket for 21 and the game
pretty much all over, Fraser Rigby was able to
hang around for a well compiled 10 but the tight
bowling from Unley was just too much for our
tailenders, bowling the Cats out for 182. Young
Tom Ahern was not out at the end of the innings
with 2 runs.

With the loss it puts Walkerville outside the four
by 19 points, hopefully a big win against Para
Hills next week for the Catters will see them
sneak inside the four and have a shot at playing
finals cricket. Let’s have two good weeks on the
track and be ready to play the best cricket we can
produce which will hopefully see us over the line
in the next two weeks.
Cheers,
Matt Perilli.
With Finals looming for the B grade Cats our
French Canadian skipper was mindful about not
putting the cart in front of the horse as we took on
an Unley side who had their own fight brewing to
avoid relegation in a tight B grade competition. It
was set up to be a keenly contested affair with
both teams nearly at full strength. Morgs aka
Elmo came in for John (cricket sucks, dropped
from B’s, 99 in one dayers) Hutchinson and Maxy
Walker made way for Murph in the middle order
who seems to perform everytime he is elevated to
the B Grade. A warmish day greeted both teams
at the picturesque Walkerville Oval for Day 1 and
on inspection of the wicket which looked a belter
for 18 yards (the other 4 were at both ends and
looked like some of Cj’s gorilla biscuits) the coin
was tossed. Skipper Jacques Kallis deliberately
shut himself away from his team mates prior to
the coin toss to make sure there was no outside
influences as this worked a treat with finally a win
going his way. With no hesitation Skipper Kallis
elected to bat knowing the strength of his batting
line up. Unfortunately things did not go to plan
and even without a run being scored Elmo
Morgan was back in the pavilion courtesy of a
great catch at third slip. In walked Ladies Man
Rutherford who also chased one outside his off
stump just like in the Night Clubs and he too was
caught behind the wicket with the score on one.
Our run machine French Canadian was joined by
midget picking up champion Lochie (I can break
Leo’s back) Nance too try and steady the ship. A
few runs later and another edge saw run machine
Jervies walking back to the sheds with not only
the side in trouble but his Association runs record
in jeopardy as we slumped to 3 for 6. Murph and
Lochie then started to find some form but our fight
back was short lived as Lochie was adjudged to
be LBW as he couldn’t get his bat in front of his
pads in time to defend a straight one (its tough
with such big shoulders!) Keeper Blackie then
faced the music against an Unley side who had
their tails up and were bowling beautiful lines
during the hot afternoon sun. With the score on
32 Black succumbed to the pressure getting
caught and then when Murph was struck on the
pads, the big appeal followed by the joys of
excitement suggested the Cats were in huge
trouble at 6 for 32 with our finals aspirations in
tatters. Panz was waiting at the non strikers end
ut that theWalkervillecc.com.au

the Walkerville whites to sub field for Blackie who
was on afternoon shift at the Chicken Shop and

for the new arrival at the crease which seemed to
take an eternity as Matho (pushed up the order) was
still getting all his bandages and padding on to take on
the Unley bowlers. About 5 minutes later Matho
appeared out of the change rooms very much like
Russel Crowe in Gladiator (apparently he said “I am
Maximus” as he greeted Panz at the wicket –
unconfirmed). Panz and Matho have fought many
battles for the Cats over the years and today looked
their day as they pushed the score to 46 however a
soft onside shot by (no one is harder on himself) Panz
saw him caught with the fight back almost over. Enter
Iggy (we just don’t roll over) Mareolas and with Matho
they started to build a partnership gradually gaining
some ground that the top order had lost earlier in the
day. The old boys took the score along to 7 for 80 at
tea but with plenty of over’s left a competitive score
was well and truly on the cards. Another great
afternoon tea was had by all with the Unley boys very
appreciative of the fine hospitality the Colonel and
Brian prepared. After tea Iggy and Matho pushed on
starting to break up the Unley strangle hold on the
match much in the same way both ends of the wicket
were breaking up. Iggy punished anything loose with
boundary’s coming regularly as Matho hit those loose
ones for singles. With the score on 116 and a decent
total in our sights Iggy, who had played with great
courage and conviction hit a full toss to shot cover
where a diving catch ended a knock of 32. Josh Wiley
Coyote didn’t last long as a yorker gained the inside
edge of his bat onto the stumps leaving Simon (no one
tell me how to run) Buckley as the last hope for the
Cats. The Unley boys had bowled terrific all day and
played with great respect as they thought they had
claimed the 10th wicket with Bucks edging a fine one
to the keeper. Bucks stood his ground in disbelief that
they could be appealing and with Murph umpiring and
Matho at the non strikers unable to hear an edge with
a strong breeze over their left shoulder the game
continued after a brief discussion from the Unley
players to Bucks. The Unley boys did not have to wait
too long for the innings to end as Matho tried one too
many times to pull the ball from off stump as one kept
low and dislodged the bails. A nice 36 from Matho in a
return to form that will hopefully continue for the rest of
the year however a final total of 123 showed that if you
bat like millionaires you could end up broke one day.
Today was that day. With 14 overs to play the
dressing room was still buoyant even after
Bucks had intimated that he may have hit the
ball
and
not
walked……………………………enough
said
about that the better. The Chainsaw made a
return to the Walkerville whites to sub field for
Blackie who was on afternoon shift at the
Chicken Shop and it’s the best Chainsaw has
ever fielded (ps – I don’t think he touched it all
day). Iggy started proceedings off but could it
have been karma for Bucks as his first ball went
to Matho at first slip in the same vain as Big
Harmie did in the Ashes a few years ago, who
knows?? Maybe not, as lunch cutter Bucks did
claim the first wicket with skipper Jervies looking
for more BOG Points as he took the keeping
gloves from Blackie and ran through three guys
to take a skied ball at point. Iggy also picked up
a valuable wicket as Panz was introduced into
the attack. Another Harmie ball this time from
Panz had the Cats boys wondering what was
going on as the day finished with the Cats
claiming 2 wickets for 36 and the game still in
the balance after being mostly dominated by
Unley.
Founded 1915
Day two brought new hope with the Cats keen
to make inroads into the Unley top order. The
man for all occasions stepped up yet again for
Walkerville with Iggy bowling superbly to take
one wicket nicely caught at second slip and very
next ball ripping an in swinger between bat and
pad to knock the wood work out of the ground.
Such was his “Eye of the Tiger” moment that
Iggy brushed his team mates as he ran towards
the side screen in a world of his own (had there
been a brick wall there he would have ran
through that). The love was back moments later
as our swing king Iggy was on a hat trick as he
embraced his teammates reducing Unley to 4
for 40. The hat trick ball was another deadly in
swinger honing in on leg stump this time
however flicking the inside edge and running
down to the boundary for four. “That’s cricket as
they say!” Even with the inspired spell of
bowling by Iggy the Cats couldn’t stop the runs
placed by our gun striker and after and in-depth
discussion with CJ the plan was hatched
Walkervillecc.com.au
Yep still going…..
Cont..
to get their skipper caught at deep long off. Next
ball “Bang” straight down the Whiley Coyote’s safe
hands (not sure what Josh was looking at for the
first few seconds of flight – maybe the female
tennis player in fluorescent orange?)and seven
wickets had fallen. Still a chance but it seemed
that the cricketing gods would not be on our side
today as the next thirty runs all came in the air
with not one going to hand. Shortly after Unley
passed our score in a deserving victory, the eighth
wicket fell and at least it seemed our day in the
field would be close to being over. To Unley’s
cricket a young man came in at 10 (has to bat
higher) and proceeded to play some of the better
strokes seen in the two days of competitive
cricket. He made a 50 and shared a 66 run last
wicket stand which embarrassed the Cats and for
a moment you had to wonder which team was the
finals contender and who was fighting of
relegation???? CJ picked up a cheap one with his
very medium swingers but it was left to Iggy to end
the innings at 223 and take another five wicket
haul for the club (5/58) showing the determination
required to be successful and the only man to
walk of the pitch with his head held high. With
twenty over’s left in the day and an ordinary first
innings the Cats needed quick runs to gain as
many bonus points as possible. CJ and Elmo
Morgan opened up again and looked good with a
38 run opening stand. CJ doing his Bruce
Mayberry Medal, Leading B grade runs, Leading
Associations runs and BOG award chances no
harm with a stylish 23. Enter the Rash Rutherford
with a touch of the Iggy Mareloas “Eye of the
Tiger” about him. No need for the Rash to take
middle as he faced his first delivery, a couple of
bounds down the wicket and “Bang” the bat went
flying into the onside. There was at least two runs
in that shot as the bat almost took out two Unley
players and a low flying crow that had entered
dangerous airspace when the Rash is in this type
of mood!!
Elmo Morgan ventured down the wicket to calm
the Rash’s nerves however with a steely domineer
the Rash brushed him off the same way he does
to the majority of his love interests! (everyone
except Captain Peter Hewish – eye eye captain).
Two balls later Morgan was run out for a handy
16 with words coming out of his helmet “that
someone has to calm him down!” . The Rash was
joined by hard to knock over Lochie Nance who
both really started to power the ball to all parts of
the ground. To be fair the Unley boys were
bowling everyone in two over spells with some
guys looking like they have never bowled at
practice let alone in a game. Full tosses were the
order of the day as Lochie easily cleared the
boundary sometimes bouncing the ball over the
fielders for four (what control!). Dropped catches
were turned into sixes as they went through
fielders fingers and singles were turned into two’s
as the game drew to a close and the interest
waned. Lochie batted terrific smashing 66 off only
30 balls to find himself in real form with some of
his shots reminding some of the older players
about a young Brett Weinert many years ago!
Orbie also contributed nicely with a handy 27 as
controlled aggression took over the later part of
his innings however for a young kid who copes a
lot from his teammates it was great to see him
play without the wait of expectation on his
shoulders that he seems to carry every week.
Both Murph and Blackie wrapped up the day with
12 and 14 respectively as the Cats finished on
4/163 of only 20 over’s. No need to relive the
game from a performance point of view as it is
one to disregard and never to be thought about
however I would like to give credit to the Unley
players led by their Captain who represented
themselves and their Club in a manner that is
hardly seen in the ATCA over the two days and
deserved their victory. Some ATCA Premier
Grades sides could take a leaf from the way they
conducted themselves on and off the field.
This week the B Grade Cats take on Goodwood
with a win the only acceptable result and if that is
good enough to take us to the Final Four then
look out opposition because the Cats are on the
Prowl!!!

C Grade Wrap Up
Continued
We rocked up to Unley high school to what was a
great day for cricket then winning the toss and
electing to bat was a no brainer on a flat hard deck
and 37 degrees. We opened with Bruce and Craig
to get us off to a
41 run opening partnership before Bruce fell on 12.
Max went out and got a quick 25 and Craig went on
to make 27 Vinay (Roger Ramjet) made a quick
fire 66 not sure what the opening bowler said to
him but he ended
up get carted for 32 of his last 2 over’s. Leaving us
6/184 just after tea Quigley and Amrit spent plenty
of time in the middle amassing a 110 run
partnership with Amrit getting his maiden 50 for
Walkerville on his way to 79 before getting c/o
that bought myself to the crease to be there when
Quigley reached his maiden 50 for Walkerville in
impressive style ending up on 83 very well batted
boys. We ended up amassing a nice total of 8/374
having myself n/o 38 and Ian n/o 3 at the end of the
day.
We elected to put them back in and have a go at
the outright they reversed their order and wickets
fell quite regularly through the day we gave Roger
Ramjet a chance to redeem himself and that he
did getting another vital
wicket. We shared the wickets round with the
figures myself 10/8/5/2 Ian 6/3/3/1 The great wall
of Hewish 6/1/26/2 Roger Ramjet 4/9/1 Quigley
5/20/0 and Darcy 10/4/24/2 once again a great all
round effort and getting so agonising close.
Thanks to Mal for scoring each week and once
again TREV having a stand out game.
Congratulations to Both Sean Quigley and Amrit
Gurm on both getting there 1st 50’s for the club.

week 2
After a little bit of a mix up we happened to be a
bowler short a few phone calls were made and we
ended up getting Nick Bergin (Noddy) to come
down and sub field for us. Opening with myself and
Darcy they attempted
to try and score as many as possible which saw
them 2/27 in the first 10. Ian came on and bowled
exceptionally well with no luck. We decided just
before the 1st drinks break to give Vinay (Roger
Ramjet )
a bowl which proved to be a great idea getting a
wicket just before drinks to see them 5/43 off 18.
Well given that Roger Ramjet got a quick wicket we
gave him the chance to get a couple only to have
his alter ego bowl his 2nd
over bowling 3 wides and almost getting his captain
killed who was fielding in close and the ball almost
landed on my head as the batsmen was running at
me to belt the ball. We bowled them out just before
tea for 93 Darcy taking
11/4/35/3 myself 6.1/17/2 Ian 6/3/4/1 Dale 5/2/12/2
Gunna’s getting ready
Roger Ramjet about to get his 50.

Well the applicants came think and fast, so Ben
had some tough decisions to make.
The list of applicants or people who were invited
to apply were as followers.
D.Giles absolutely quamless and tasteless so a
leading contender in this wingman role
Buckley was flatly refused – lunch cutter!
Peter Sarson was far too busy with his own online
dating sight to commit to any other ventures
Matthew Perelli was considered but due to his
innocent appearance was not rated highly as
there was a question mark on if he could handle
pressure situations.
Matho flies well solo so doesn’t need anyone
cramping his style
The Rash’s diary is full so no time to waste with a
try hard in the likes of Duncan.
So the winner of the Ben Duncan Wingman

Daniel “I’ll kiss Anything Giles”.
Your prize is multiply nights out with “Ben the

Introducing Adam Rutherford
As he rushes from location to location he
continually bumps into “Old Friends” who want to
re-establish friendships. Adam promises everything
as long as he can get onto his next date. As Adam
manages to eat his way through 3 entrees at 3
different locations we as an audience see a pro in
action. The way he smoothly carries conversations
and seduces these ladies is amazing.
The sex scenes are steamy with lots of television
blurring to keep the program R rating. The way
Adam jumps from house to house and bed to bed
is unbelievable, enthralling and at time nail biting.
The television crew struggle to keep up with this
marathon man who would make Hugh Heffner
envious.
Later in the episode Adam meets Miranda Kerr at a
night club, and as his way smoothly moves beyond
small talk to the real thing!!!
.
Adam Rutherford stars in his own reality TV
show
“The Daily Adventures of Adam – The Rash
Rutherford”
This fly on the wall documentary has a TV crew
follow the daily antics of the Adam as he deals
with his new job, work colleges, his cruel boss
Peter Hewish and his many work romances.
In this week’s episode Adam “The Rash” has
issues with his boss Mr Hewish. Peter or Mr
Hewish as he demands to be called; Mr Hewish
miss places his coffee mug and proceeds to
blame various people throughout the office.
He points the finger at Adam as believes the
Rash is trying to make him look bad – He
doesn’t need any ones help for this!!!
Adam rolls his eyes when Mr Hewish brings up
the topic, all this does is waste Adams time from
his real priority, chatting up the ladies and
climbing the corporate ladder!!!
Adam is ticking all the right boxes at work with
his office management (Miss Kenny) noticing
Adam’s assets to the business.
In a hilarious scene Adam is dating 3 of his work
colleges at the same time, in three different
places.
Founded 1915
But Adam is snapped by the paparazzi which he is
greatly upset by. When confronting the
photographer he raves on about privacy and a right
to freedom. Miranda is absolutely won over by what
she considers is a white knight in shining armour
standing up for her, but little did she know that
Adam was looking after his own reputation.
After an all-night tango session Miranda is now
very keen on Adam, but the Rash is happy to move
on and find new grounds.
Now Adam has been exposed to celebrity circles
he is sure to meet more stars!
The episode ends with Adams boss Peter finding
his coffee mug exactly when he left it, on his office
desk.
This series just continues to grow and impress, I’m
hooked.

Cow Pat Wrap Up
Well what an event it was, with forecast of 37
degrees it was always going to be a hotly contested
field.
Evo was happy the cow did its poo. Evo dipped him
thumb in the cow pat to verify it was real poo. That is
dedication!!!
Paul also coming over to check that the cow poo was
real – he did the taste test!
Well done to all players and supporters who turned
up on the day or purchased a ticket for the event.
With over 1,500 tickets sold it was a great result by
all who took part. Special mention to Mark “evo”
Evans for organising the event and being designated
cow pat measurer! Some photos from the day.
