In the past year, we are proud to have been involved in a number of meaningful grassroots projects
across the country. To name a few, we teamed up with Trips for Kids as a major corporate partner to help
them in their noble goal of getting more at-risk and disadvantaged kids on bikes. In March, Planet Bike was a leading
sponsor of the National Bike Summit which strives to advance the interests of bicyclists across the country.
In Portland, we have been strong supporters of the Get Lit initiative which works to keep bicyclists safe after
dark. And finally, we continue to be a major contributor to Mayor Daley’s Bicycle Ambassador
Program which trains children and adults to be safe when pedaling around the streets of Chicago. In July, as
a result of our involvement in the Mayor’s program, the City of Chicago recognized us with the 2007 Mayor Daley
Bicycle Advocacy Council award for being the corporation that most supported bicycling
in the City of Chicago.
Since 1996, Planet Bike has donated over $500,000 to grassroots bicycle advocacy, and we aim to donate a total
of $1,000,000 by 2010. Most of our money goes to the Thunderhead Alliance, a coalition of 128 bicycle
advocacy groups across the nation that are working together to promote bicycle friendly communities.
Grassroots advocacy has helped deliver some big wins for bicycling in the last few years. Help us keep
