The program focuses on instruction in speaking, listening, writing, math computation and employability skills to help break down the barriers to employment created by deficiencies in basic learning skills. Prerequisites: Must be competent using at least one computer operating system. Access to InDesign on a computer at home or work is required. $170 Wednesdays 8 Sessions 6:00pm-8:00pm CHS 10/7/15-12/16/15 Adobe Photoshop (Introduction) Learn the basics of Adobe Photoshop, the premiere image editing software. The course will introduce students to the basics of bitmap images and computer color, the basic set of Photoshop's tools and palettes, guidelines for processing images from a digital camera, optical disk or scanner with Photoshop, making basic color corrections, basic image editing, the basics of working with layers, how to prepare graphics for web pages and more. Prerequisites: Must be competent using at least one computer operating system. Students will learn the various tools and palettes, how to create and manipulate vector objects, hot to create and use colors, how to use gradients and patterns, adding and manipulating text, creating and using some special effects, importing and using picture graphics, and how to prepare files for basic print and web uses. Prerequisites: Must be competent using at least one computer operating system. Access to Illustrator on a computer at home or work is required. $170 Tuesdays 8 Sessions 6:00pm-8:00pm CHS 10/6/15-11/24/15 Apple iPhones and iPads (Introduction) Learn how to use Apple iOS devices like iPads, iPhones, and iPods, as well as the iOS operating system. Topics covered will be determined based on the collective needs of students but can include: basic usage, setting up Settings, syncing devices through Google services, purchasing, downloading, installing and deleting apps; using particular apps like Camera, Gmail, Maps, Chrome (and other web browsers), Youtube, DropBox, etc., and more. Prerequisite: Students should own at least one device using Android and bring it to class. $120 Thursdays 5 Sessions 6:00pm-8:00pm CHS 11/12/15-12/17/15 Basic Computer Literacy (Introduction) This course is for the individual who has little or no computer experience. The main reason for this class is for the student to get comfortable with using computers. It will provide introduction on the basic functions as well as selected Microsoft products. Students must bring their own USB drive. $140 Mondays 6 Sessions 7:00pm-9:00pm Neptune Annex 9/21/15-11/2/15 Computer Literacy (Advanced) Students will learn advanced applications associated with Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint. In Microsoft Word, students will learn how to create flyers, address labels, business cards, newsletters, and brochures. Students will learn how to type professional business letters, add graphics to documents from Internet websites. They will also learn how to create professional PowerPoint Presentations from documents created in Word and Excel by insertion of selected text. Students will learn how to create advanced spreadsheets and insert them into Word documents. The course covers reading engineering drawings for manufacturing products throughout industry, review of ANSI, American National Standards Institute necessary for designing products, and utilizing measuring equipment such as engineer’s scales and dial calipers. Students are eligible for a free student copy of AutoDesk 2015. $275 Tuesdays and Thursdays 10 Sessions 6:00pm-9:00pm High Technology HS 9/29/15-10/29/15 Microsoft Excel: Introduction This course covers data entry, cell techniques, formulas, using functions, font styles, drawing tools, ranges and printing techniques. Other spreadsheet topics will be explored. Students should be able to use a mouse and keyboard, and be familiar on how to save and retrieve files. Prerequisites: Good typing skills. Ability to use a mouse, save and retrieve files. Students will explore the PowerPoint environment and create a presentation, format text on slides to enhance clarity and add graphical objects to a presentation and modify them. Students will be instructed on how to: Insert audio, video, and pictures, work with graphs and diagrams, design slide animations and transitions, work with graphs and diagrams, slide animations and transitions, add actions buttons, create Macros, custom timings and special effects, use PowerPoint with other applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel, and export presentations. The student must have his/her own project and be responsible for all materials and supplies. $240 Tuesdays and Thursdays 12 Sessions 6:30pm-9:30pm Hazlet 10/6/15-11/17/15 Auto Body Repair and Refinishing (Advanced) This course covers the basics of paint refinishing, the spray gun, spray booth, preparation of vehicle, surface preparation, protective coverings, and wet sanding and buffing. The student must have his/her own project and be responsible for all materials and supplies needed. $175 Tuesdays and Thursdays 8 Sessions 6:30pm-9:30pm Hazlet 11/19/15-12/17/15 Introduction to Automotive Services This course covers basic automotive service and repair. Students will receive instruction on proper maintenance and repair procedures. Safety and proper use of tools will be emphasized as a part of this course. Lessons will cover system function and theory for steering, suspension, brakes, lubrication, cooling, and other system. $200 Thursdays 10 Sessions 6:00pm-9:00pm Career Center 9/17/15-12/3/15 Register and Pay Online www.mcvsd.org Page 13 Transportation Technology Auto Technician Students interested in pursuing the automotive trade as a career will receive hands-on and classroom training for entry level employment addressing the following: tools, precision measuring equipment, shop procedures and safety. Basic automotive systems such as engine fundamentals, power train service, brakes, tires, exhaust systems, suspension, and alignment procedures will be covered. Advanced automotive technology including engine computer controls, anti-skid braking systems, air conditioning, fuel and air management systems will be included to prepare the student for entry into a modern automotive service facility. $385 Tuesdays and Thursdays 20 Sessions 6:30pm-9:30pm Middletown 10/1/15-12/15/15 Basic Auto Mechanics and Preventative Maintenance This course includes shop and personal safety rules, care and use of hand tools, lubrication services, car safety inspection, under-car visual inspection and service, under hood visual inspection, chassis lubrication, oil and filter change, service of automotive transmission, tire maintenance and repair, wheel bearing maintenance, basic automotive electricity and engine theory. This course is designed for first-year apprentices and those interested in the automotive field. This is not a theory course, rather a hands-on course. The student must have his/her own project and be responsible for all materials and supplies needed. $185 Tuesdays 11 Sessions 7:00pm-10:00pm CLASS Academy 10/6/15-12/15/15 Marine Mechanics (Beginners) This course is designed to provide instruction for marine industry entrylevel mechanics and boat owners. Students will acquire a basic understanding of the fundamentals and operation of the two and four stroke engines. Tools and equipment used in the trades are introduced. Theory and practical experiences are combined in the operation, service, testing and repair of inboard and outboard engines. The test, repair and adjustment of the ignition, fuel cooling systems and electrical systems are included. In addition, the basic understanding and principal operation of gear systems, service and propeller selection will be covered. $385 Tuesdays and Thursdays 20 Sessions 6:30pm-9:30pm Aberdeen 10/6/15-12/17/15 Register and Pay Online www.mcvsd.org Page 14 Transportation Technology Tractor Trailer/Bus CDL Class A W/Passenger In partnership with Superior Driving School in Toms River, students will prepare for all written CDL. exams including: General Knowledge, Air Brakes, Combination Vehicles, Passenger, Hazmat, Tankers, Double and Triples. The theory portion of the course will take place in the Career Center. Upon completion of the theory portion of the class, the students are required to take and pass the written CDL A W/Passenger at a NJ Division of Motor Vehicle location before they can continue their training. The mandatory Yard and Road training portion of the class will take place at 2834 Lacey Road, Forked River at the Superior Driving School. Upon completion of the Yard and Road training, students will be required to take two road tests at a NJ Division of Motor Vehicle location test center coordinated by Superior Driving School. The truck and bus for the road test will be provided by the Superior Driving School. The total cost of the course is $2,500. A mandatory deposit of $220 is required to the Superior Driving School upon registration (students will mailed payment instructions). Limited to eight students. Theoretical Portion: $280 Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:00pm-10:00pm Career Center 9/15/15-10/15/15 Yard and Road Training: $2,220 (Payable to driving school includes MVC permit, DOT physical, passenger fingerprinting, and hazmat fingerprinting). Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:00pm-10:00pm 10/27/15-2/11/16 Upon registration students will be mailed an additional information packet that they must complete and contact the Superior Driving School two weeks before the theoretical portion of the class begins. Requirements: Must be 18 years of age with a non-provisional driver license and pass a DOT physical provided by Superior Driving School. 90% attendance to both sections of the course is required. Register and Pay Online www.mcvsd.org Page 15 Real Estate Pre-license Real Estate This course meets the State Educational requirements for those wishing to qualify for the State Licensing Exam through Visual Educational Concepts, taught by Frank Felice, a licensed real estate broker in the State New Jersey. Students must be 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent. The NJ Real Estate Commission will conduct a criminal background check on all candidates. Students must complete the 75-hour course and earn a score of 70% or more on the MCVSD final exam. Students have one year from date of issuance to pass the State exam and file their applications with the Real Estate Commission. Tuition includes textbook, all materials, and review for State Exam. $395 Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:00pm-9:00pm CLASS Academy Register and Pay Online www.mcvsd.org Page 16 Construction & Industrial Trades Boiler Operator Low Pressure: BLACK SEAL This course prepares qualified and experienced persons responsible for the operation of public and private buildings for state licensing as required by law. You must be working in the field in order to take this class. Instruction covers functions of low-pressure boilers and their safe operation; air pollution control and energy conservation. Books, supplies and personal safety equipment not included in tuition. $250 Tuesdays/Thursdays 10 Sessions 6:30pm-9:30pm CLASS Academy 10/6/15-11/10/15 25 Sessions 9/15/15-12/17/15 Construction & Industrial Trades Blueprint Reading I This course covers the fundamentals of print reading for single-family dwellings. Actual prints provide print reading experience. Specific topics include: symbols and notations, structural information, elevations, floor plans, scaling and dimensioning, and trade information. $220 Tuesdays 11 Sessions 7:00pm-10:00pm Career Center 10/6/15-12/15/15 Blueprint Reading II This course continues development of the fundamentals skills learned in Blueprint Reading I. Students will have the opportunity to create a set of their own house plans. Emphasis will be placed on the mill-work needed and the fabrication of a small piece of furniture or cabinetry. Each student will be expected to complete a project to assess their progress. All establishments must have a “ (PIC) Person in Charge.” This person must have a working knowledge of foodborne disease prevention and application of the(HACCP) principles. As of January 2, 2010, at least one person in charge in Risk Type 3 Food Establishments shall be a “Certified Food Protection Manager.” The Serv-Safe Certification is intended to provide food service managers, owners, dietetic assistants, and operators an opportunity to learn the principles of sanitary food service operations, thereby promoting good health practices in serving safe and sanitary food to the consuming public under the guidelines established by the Food and Drug Administration.
